Chittaranjan Singh is new DGP of Gujarat

Gujarat government has promoted IPS officer Chittaranjan Singh to the post of a regular Director General of Police.

Mr Singh had been holding the charge of DGP till yesterday.

In a late last night order, the state government also promoted Additional DGP Dipak Swaroop to the post of DGP (Homeguard), whereas Additional DG Amitabh Pathak is now DGP Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police S K Saikia had been promoted to the post of DGP but no change of assignment has been made in his case.

He remains the city police commissioner.

AP CM hopeful of ‘appropriate’ decision on Telangana

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy Tuesday hoped that the Centre would soon take an appropriate decision on the Telangana issue in the best interests of the state and country.

“There is separate state demand from Telangana region, while there is united Andhra Pradesh demand from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. This is a difficult situation. I hope the Centre and Congress would take an appropriate decision in the best interests of the state and the country, which benefits the highest number of people,” Reddy said.

TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao meets Ravi

Amid indications that a decision on Telangana issue could be taken by the Congress soon, TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao had a meeting with Union minister Vayalar Ravi today.

Ravi is an old hand in Andhra Pradesh affairs and has been informally looking after the Congress in the state for the last few months.

‘UN should frame law banning all anti-religion works’

In the backdrop of an anti-Islam movie, the prominent cleric of Muslim’s Shia sect, Kalbe Jawad, today said United Nation should frame a law for a stringent punishment to those insulting any religion in the world.

The US-made low budget movie evoked sharp reactions from various parts world. Protests were also held in parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to the reporters here Jawad said such acts should not be tolerated.

Obama says ‘anti-Islam film’ no excuse for attack on US

President Barack Obama today invoked the words of Mahatma Gandhi in his address to the UN General Assembly here as he remembered US envoy to Libya who was killed in violent protests that erupted in the aftermath of an anti-Islam film, saying the “crude and disgusting” video was no excuse for an “attack on America”.

Obama took the stage at the UN General Assembly hall to address world leaders in what is his last international speech before the November 6 presidential elections.

People will reject Naidu’s padayatra: Ambati

Questioning the sanctity of the proposed padayatra of TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu, YSRCP spokesperson Ambati Rambabu has said that the exercise will be rejected by the people who are well aware of the his antics during his nine year term as Chief Minister.

Speaking to media here on Tuesday he said, “Trying to emulate YSR, Chandrababu Naidu has chalked out the Padayatra with the slogan- I am coming for you- which has a heavy political accent. He has no moral right to undertake the mass contact programme as all sections of people underwent serious hardships during his tenure.”

Dharmana appears before CBI Court in Vanpic case

Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao on Tuesday appeared before the CBI Special Court in connection with the Rs 17,000 crore VANPIC port case.

The court while adjourning the hearing on the case to October 9 granted anticipatory bail to Dharmana Prasada Rao following his petition. While sanctioning the anticipatory bail, the court asked him to produce a surety of two persons along with a personal bond of Rs 25,000. Venkatrami Reddy and Satya Sai gave surety for Dharmana Prasad rao.

Ex-judges get bail in cash-for-bail scam

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to suspended judges T Pattibhirama Rao and K Lakshminarasimha Rao and Karnataka MLA G Somasekhara Reddy in the cash-for-bail case involving former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy.

The high court granted bail to the main accused when Janardhana Reddy was produced before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court here. Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu did not agree with the ACB’s contention that Pattabhirama Rao might tamper with the evidence if released on bail and pronounced the verdict.

Vijaya Raghav gets bail in Emaar scam

The CBI Special Court, Nampally on Monday granted unconditional bail to G V Vijay Raghav, an accused in the Emaar properties scam.

While granting bail, the court asked Vijay Raghav to produce two sureties and deposit Rs 1 lakh. Earlier, Vijay Raghav’s counsel said his client was ready to abide by any condition imposed by the court to grant the bail. However, the CBI counsel opposed the bail petition stating that he might influence the witnesses if granted bail.

Goud asks Govt not to arrest T activists

Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yashki Goud has made it clear that the September 30 Telangana March was not against the proposed Biodiversity meet COP-11.

Vimalakka held in statue damaging case

Tension prevailed for some time on Monday when the police arrested Telangana United Front leader Vimalakka at her Banjara Hills residence. TP-JAC firm on Telangana March at Tank Bund

Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Monday announced that the Telangana March would be held at Tank Bund and Necklace Road on September 30.

Brinda Karat attacks PM, says money grows on trees for corporate sector
