‘Tantrik’ gets death sentence for sacrificing boy

A local court today awarded the death sentence to a ‘tantrik’ for killing an 11-year-old boy as sacrifice to a deity in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.

“The additional district and sessions judge (II class) Ashok Kumar Sahu found the occultist Dilip Rathiya (32) guilty of the crime and pronounced the judgement,” prosecution lawyer Anil Kumar Shrivastava told PTI.

“The court has also slapped fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict,” he added.

Beni Prasad attacks Mulayam again,says he connived with Advani

Union minister Beni Prasad Verma has once again attacked Mulayam Singh Yadav, now accusing the Samajwadi Party of conniving with BJP leader LK Advani in the run up to the demolition of Babri mosque.

“Advani started a rath yatra stating that shilanyas was to be performed at the disputed structure on October 30, 1990. The intention was not to perform shilanyas but to demolish the disputed structure in connivance with the then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP) Mulayam Singh Yadav,” Beni said on Monday.

TADA court rejects Sanjay Dutt’s plea

A designated Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) court today rejected the plea of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, seeking time to surrender before jail authorities.

Dutt has to surrender by April 18 before the TADA court in keeping with the directive of the Supreme Court, which recently upheld his conviction in the bombings while reducing his imprisonment from six years to five.

Ahmadinejad says Iran does not need atomic bomb

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today defended his country’s controversial nuclear programme while on a tour of west Africa, calling it peaceful and arguing that Tehran has no use for an atomic bomb.

Speaking during a visit to Benin, the first stop on a three-nation tour, Ahmadinejad called nuclear energy a “divine gift” providing affordable electricity.

Unable to pay bribe, woman delivers baby at bus-stand

A pregnant woman was allegedly asked to pay a bribe for treatment at a government hospital here today, and unable to pay it, she was forced to deliver the baby at a bus-stand.

The 24-year-old woman, a labourer hailing from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, had come to the hospital with her husband and two children, aged five and two years, after she experienced labour pains this morning, but some nursing staff allegedly demanded Rs 1000 for her delivery, Dr Vallinayagam, Hospital Dean said.

100 legislators needed for separate T-state :TRS chief

Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao today said the separate Telangana statehood can be achieved if TRS has at least 100 MLAs.

The ruling Congress party had cheated four crore Telangana people and failed to fulfill its promise on Telangana, he said after unveiling the statue of Telangana Talli in cantonment area in Secunderabad.

New Saudi labour law not to affect genuine workers: Khurshid

India has ruled out any impact on genuine workers in Saudi Arabia as a result of the Kingdom’s new labour policy, saying that only illegal immigrants will be affected by the ‘Nitaqat’ law.

Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid, who accompanied Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Germany earlier this week, said here that genuine workers need not worry as the new Saudi law will impact only those who do not have proper work permit.

Illicit arms factory unearthed, one arrested

An illicit arms factory was unearthed and one person arrested in this connection in the forest area of Rampur village near here, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police officials raided the factory last night and nabbed Ravi, a resident of Rampur Majra, they said.

Five country-made pistols, equipment for making weapons, and raw materials were recovered from the site, they said.

Posters calling armed struggle for Telangana in Osmania Univ

Posters have been found on the Osmania University campus asking youths to join an “armed struggle to achieve Telangana state,” prompting police to launch a probe into it.

Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy today said the police was “seriously probing” the incident.

Over 200 posters were found in several hostels and other places on the OU campus, the hotbed of Telangana agitation for the last few years, asking the students to start the armed struggle, saying “only a militant struggle could lead to Telangana state formation.”

SC justifies death for convicts in terror, heinous offences

Dial ‘100’ aimed at helping people: DGP

The Director General of Police (DGP) V Dinesh Reddy has said that he was trying for achieving coordination between the people and the police.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, DGP said that ‘Dial 100’ services were launched only to mingle with the people further. He explained that within 40 seconds the department will alert the local police after receiving a phone call from anywhere in the State for help.

One more arrested in Sanganer communal violence

The police today arrested a person for his alleged role in setting ablaze a minority educational institution during the communal clash that broke out in Sanganer town here last week.

Accompanied by a mob of over 50 people, Karan Singh Yadav vandalised the institution before setting it on fire, police said.

Over 100 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence in which several policemen were injured.

In a step towards greater transparency, the government has started a unique facility of submitting RTI applications and fees online.

The portal–www.rtionline.gov.in– has been created with an aim to help people exercise their right to seek information through online medium, said officials in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which acts as nodal department for the implementation of transparency law in the country.

City Crime Branch rescues 8 year old from Kidnappers

The “kidnapped” eight-month old baby girl Sraghvi four days ago in the city has been traced and handed over to her distraught parents on Wednesday.

The alleged kidnapping of the baby on Saturday last has not caused panic but drew state-wide attention with people praying for the safety of the child and appealing to the “kidnappers” not to hurt or harm the innocent baby.

Two of cheating gang arrested by CID

CID Additional Director General of Police T. Krishna Prasad has stated that on April 6 his sleuths arrested Durgamcheruvu Sarojini (A-11) wife of one Stanly David and Marapaka Suman (A-12), both of Nacharam and seized from them one ‘Ford Fiesta’ car in connection with a case of cheating and misappropriation by notorious criminals. The case was registered in CID Police Station, here on June 4 last year.

Hyderabad, April 09: The Hyderabad District Review Committee meeting will be held in the Jubilee Hall at Public Gardens here on Wednesday.

In a pressnote here today, Hyderabad district Collector S A M Rizvi stated that the district incharge minister and Minister for Major Industries Dr J. Geeta Reddy would preside over the meeting.
