Hyderabad’s last Nizam Osman Ali Khan named all-time richest Indian

When you think of India’s all-time richest people, what are the names that cross your mind?

No, it’s not the Tatas, Birlas or Ambanis, it’s Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam (or ruler) of Hyderabad.

According to a new inflation-adjusted list of the world’s richest people of all time, the Nizam, who ruled Hyderabad between 1886-1967, was ranked sixth with $236 billion.

Osman Ali Khan died in 1967 at age of 80.

Mansa Musa I of Mali ? the obscure 14th century African king – was named the richest person in all history, British newspaper ‘The Independent’ reported today.

No deadline to resolve Telangana, says Vayalar Ravi

Echoing the views of his cabinet colleague Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister for Overseas Affairs Vayalar Ravi on Tuesday said that no deadline could be set to resolve the Telangana issue.

Talking to reporters here, Vayalar Ravi, who is also PCC Observor, said that Telangana was among several other problems seeking redressal by the Centre. Therefore, the statehood demand alone could be given priority, he said. However, he claimed that the Centre has continued talks with the stakeholders to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Akbar Owaisi and others booked for Ibrahim Yafai murder

The Chandrayangutta Police have registered a murder case against the MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, Malakpet MLA Ahmed Balala, gunman Jani Mia and MIM corporator Mansoor Awalgi for allegedly killing Ibrahim Yafai at Chandrayangutta Barkas last year.

On September 4,the brother of the deceased Awadh Bin Younus Yafai lodged a complaint of conspiracy and murder against the MIM legislators with Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, Deputy Commissioner of Police South Zone and also with the Station House Officer of Chandrayangutta Police station.

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Reiterating its demand for an independent probe into the allegations against an NGO, headed by Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife, the BJP today said the UPA government was busy in “protecting” the ministers.

“The inflation rate has increased and value of rupee has gone down again. Instead of protecting the economy, the Congress-led UPA government is protecting its ministers who are facing allegations,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here.

Pranay Sahay is new CRPF chief

Government has appointed senior IPS officer Pranay Sahay as the chief of country’s largest paramilitary force CRPF.

Sahay, a 1975-batch IPS officer of Manipur-Tripura cadre, was already holding the additional charge of the CRPF Director General since October 3 after incumbent K Vijay Kumar retired in September.

Official sources said formal orders in this regard will be issued soon as Sahay’s appointment has been okayed by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC).

Tension at Rein Bazaar after cops try to seize cattle

Tension prevailed at Rein Bazar on Sunday when a group of BJP activists and locals began to stop vehicles which were ferrying cattle. Police rushed to the spot to try and bring the situation under control but even as they attempted to pacify the mob, stones were hurled at a GHMC vehicle passing that way, damaging its windshield. As tensions mounted, senior officials hurried to the spot in a bid to bring the situation back to normal.

Earlier in the day, Hyderabad police formed special teams to certify cattle being brought into the city for ‘Qurbani’ during the upcoming Bakrid festival.

JD (U) asks Centre to early decision on Telangana

Reiterating his party’s support for formation of Telangana, Janata Dal (United) National General Secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava on Sunday demanded that the Centre take an early decision on the statehood issue.

The East Zone Team of Commissioner’s Task Force has unearthed a fake Visa racket by arresting the owner of a travel agency.

According to Additional DCP (Task Force) P Rameshaiah, the East Zone team led by inspector A Sudhakar conducted raid on Hasnin Tours & Travels located in Taj complex at Nampally on Saturday and arrested its owner 52-year-old M Naga Bhushanam. The police also seized 24 Passports, fake and forges Visas, Sponsors Declarations, Affidavits and Invitation Letters, one laptop, two CPUs, one computer and one colour printer.

Minorities Finance Corporation MD Ilyas Rizvi shunted out

Andhra Pradesh government Friday shifted AP State Minority Finance Corporation’s managing director Mohammed Ilyas Rizvi, a day after the arrest of four people in Rs.55 crore fraud.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy issued orders transferring APSMFC vice chairman and managing director Rizvi. The official was shunted out and not given any new posting due to his alleged negligence, which led to the misappropriation of funds.

Justice Subhashan Reddy sowrn in as AP’s Lok Ayukta

Justice B Subhashan Reddy on Friday was sworn in as the Lok Ayukta of Andhra Pradesh.

Governor ESL Narasimhan administered the oath of office to Justice Subhashan Reddy at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. He will serve on the post for a period of five years from now.

Justice Reddy earlier served as the chief justice of Madras and Kerala High Courts and he was also the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission.

56 crore scam unearthed in AP Minorities Corporation

The sleuths of Crime Investigation Department (CID) have registered a case of Cheating and Criminal conspiracy against the employees of Andhra Pradesh State Minority Finance Corporation for fraudulently withdrawing 56 crores from a bank with the help of forged fixed deposit receipts.

Following the registration of a case, the CID sleuths today raided the Minority Finance Corporation premises and conducted searches.The Police also seized certain documents.
