Jacko doctor prescribed drug to curb his desire for young boys

London, August 09: In a bizzare revelation, it has been claimed that Michael Jackson used to consume a ‘chemical castration’ drug to suppress his sexual urges towards young boys.

Jackson who was twice accused of child molestation took the powerful drug known as ‘Depo Provera’, which is usually given to sex offenders to cool their sexual appetite, Mirror reported online.

The drug which restricts the flow of testosterone producing brain hormones, was prescribed to the ‘King of Pop’ by Dr Alimorad Farshchian.

Two WR suburban trains collide in Mumbai

Mumbai, August 09: Six persons were injured after a local train collided with a stationary train at Mahim station of Western Railway following a signal failure this afternoon.

A Borivali-bound train stationed at platform No 1 at the Mahim station was hit by another train which was going to Andheri after there was a failure in signal control, Western railway officials said.

“Six persons who were travelling in the Borivali-bound train have suffered minor bruises. They have been administered first aid by the railway doctor at Mahim,” they said.

‘Talaq’ given under pressure is not divorce: Shariat court

Muzaffarnagar, August 07: A Shariat court here has observed that a ‘talaq’ given under pressure cannot amount to actual divorce.

The court made this observation while hearing a 15-year-old divorce case in which the petitioner had claimed that his assent for ‘talaq’ from his wife was “forcibly” taken by his in-laws.

Shafiqullah, 45, a resident of Aligarh, had approached the Shariat court seeking reunion with his 42-year-old wife Farah, who had been living with his parents for last 15 years.

District panels in Andhra Pradesh to fix school fees

Hyderabad, August 07: Parents in Andhra Pradesh can heave a sigh of relief as the state government has ordered all private schools to secure prior permission from specially constituted panels before increasing their tuition fees.

The orders were issued nearly a month after a high-level committee submitted its recommendations to the government to check the fleecing by the managements of privately-run schools.

Lashkar planning to target Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata

New Delhi, August 06: Ahead of Independence Day, Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba is planning to target three major cities including Delhi where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour from the historic Red Fort, home ministry officials said.

Besides the national capital, other cities on LeT target are Kolkata and Hyderabad, a top home ministry official said.

Court extends Ramalinga Raju’s remand by 14 days

Hyderabad, August 06: A local court on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju and eight other accused in the multi-crore
rupee fraud case in the IT company by 14 days.

The XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate extended the remand of Ramalinga Raju, his brother Rama Raju, former Satyam CFO Vadlamani Srinivas, former auditors of Price Waterhouse S Gopalakrishnan and Talluri Srinivas and three former employees of the IT firm till August 19.

Five cops suspended as accused dies in police custody

Hyderabad, August 06: Five policemen, including an inspector, were today placed under suspension after a man detained in a theft case died in the custody of Cyberabad police here, a senior officer said.

L B Nagar inspector N Mahender, sub-inspectors Ravi and Ranjeet Kumar, and constables Saibaba and Srinivas have been suspended after Janardhan (32), died in the custody of L B Nagar police yesterday, he said.

“We are serving suspension orders on them. They have been placed under suspension pending further investigation,” L B Nagar DCP in-charge B V Ramana Kumar told PTI.

‘Israel must withdraw from Arab land’: Saudi

Riyadh, August 03: Saudi Arabia will not recognise Israel until it withdraws from occupied Arab land and makes committed steps toward a lasting two-state solution, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Foreign ministry spokesman Osama Nugali also called Israeli policy “schizophrenic” and said it was jeopardising attempts to revive Middle East peace talks aimed at creating an independent Palestinian state. “Our position is well known. It is Israel that has to move seriously towards the peace process,” Nugali said.

21,000 soldiers to safeguard Iraqi Shia religious festival

Baghdad, August 03: More than 21,000 Iraqi soldiers will provide security for Shia Muslims gathering in the city of Karbala in the coming days, a senior military officer said Monday.

Hundreds of thousands of Shia Muslims are expected to converge on the tomb of Hussein, the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson, who was killed in battle in Karbala in the year 680.

In contrast to previous years, US forces will not help maintain security for the pilgrimage, Lieutenant-General Othmanal-Ghanemi, head of security for the city, said.

Supreme Court probe panel to investigate Sohrabuddin’s killing

New Delhi, August 03: The sensational killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in an alleged fake gun battle and the murder of his wife and a friend are likely to be probed by the Supreme Court’s Special Investigations Team (SIT), which is inquiring the 2002 Gujarat communal riots.

The Supreme Court Monday ordered that the 2005 killings by the Gujarat police will be investigated by the probe panel headed by former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director R.K. Raghavan.

Cash, jewellery worth Rs.3.5 lakh looted from Delhi house

New Delhi, August 03: Four unidentified armed men Monday evening barged into the east Delhi house of a businessman and looted cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs.3.50 lakh after holding his wife hostage at a gunpoint.

Sudha Jain, 55, was alone at her Vivek Vihar house when the robbers walked in as the doors were open. They held the woman at gunpoint and asked for the keys to an almirah.

“They ransacked the house and decamped with Rs.195,000 cash and jewellery worth Rs.150,000,” said a police official.

Los Angeles, August 03: Michael Jackson’s mother has gained permanent custody of her late son’s children during a hearing Monday that saw a last-minute objection by the pop icon’s former dermatologist.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff made a series of key rulings during the morning portion of the Monday hearing, which was to reconvene after a short break. In addition to approving Katherine Jackson’s guardianship petition, he also granted monthly stipends to the 79-year-old and the three young grandchildren she is now charged with raising.

US plane hits severe turbulence, many injured

Texas, August 03: Severe turbulence shook a Continental Airlines flight on Monday, injuring dozens of passengers and forcing the aircraft to divert to Miami, Florida, according to the airline and a fire official.

There were 168 passengers and 11 crew members on Flight 128, which was heading from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Houston, Texas, according to a statement from Continental Airlines.

Anil steps up anti-RIL drive

Mumbai, August 03: With less than a month left for Supreme Court to take up the gas dispute case between Mukesh and Anil Ambani and the government, the feud intensified on Monday.

Anil blamed his elder brother’s Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) for delays in his group’s proposed 8,000 mw gas-based power plant at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh. He also alleged that RIL was deliberately keeping gas output from its D6 gas block in Krishna Godavari (KG) basin down low to keep prices high.

Shivani murder accused RK Sharma gets interim bail

New Delhi, August 03: The Delhi High Court Monday granted interim bail to former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer RK Sharma, serving life term in the murder of journalist Shivani Bhatnagar, to enable him to visit his elder daughter and newly-born grandson.

A division bench comprising of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Ajit Bharioke granted bail to Sharma for two months. He is lodged in Tihar Jail.

While granting bail, the court took on record his good conduct in the jail for the past three years.

Musharraf tries his hand on tabla

London, August 03: Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf seems to have found some solace in playing the ‘tabla’ as troubles pile up for him.

During a cultural show here, the former military ruler tried his hand on the tabla, according to a British Peer who is a staunch critic of Musharraf.

“I heard him play tabla myself. It was during a recent music show in London,” Lord Nazir Ahmed told journalists.

Top changes in the Navy, Army in the offing

New Delhi, August 03: Major changes in the top hierarchy of the Navy and the Army are in the offing with admiral Sureesh Mehta, retiring this month end and Army vice chief Lieutenant General Noble Thamburaj completing his tenure next month.

When Mehta retires on August 31, Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, who is at present the Eastern Naval Commander, will take over as the next chief. Verma would be replaced in the Eastern Naval Command by vice Admiral Anup Singh, who is currently the Deputy Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff, Navy sources said here this evening.

Pay compensation to Sohrabuddin’s family: SC to Gujarat

New Delhi, August 03: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Gujarat government to pay compensation to the family of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, an alleged gangster
who was shot dead along with two others in a fake encounter in 2007.

A special bench of Justices Tarun Chatterji and Aftab Alam refrained from fixing the amount of compensation after senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the state, pleaded that the quantum may be left to the discretion of the state.

Pak moves troops away from India to take on Taliban

New Delhi, August 01: Pakistan has moved a large number of troops from the border with India to its troubled north-west for an offensive against the Taliban.

US Special Ambassador on Af-Pak Richard Holbrooke has termed the troops redeployment as a significant move.

The troop redeployment looks like the first significant thinning out of the Pakistan Army from its front with India.

Pakistan is reported to have pulled out at least 70,000 army troopers deployed against India for an offensive against the Taliban on its western side.

“It’s Time to Go Home”: US Iraq Commander

In a blunt memo to top military officials, a senior US official has called for withdrawing American troops from Iraq, detailing a growing tension between US and Iraqis forces, reported The New York Times on Friday, July 31.
“(It is time) for the US to declare victory and go home,” Colonel Timothy R. Reese, an adviser to the Iraqi military’s Baghdad command, wrote in a detailed memo submitted recently to senior US commander in Iraq General Ray Odierno.

Colonel Reese said the US troops have became a persona non grata in Iraq.
