GHMC Standing Committee takes major decisions

The Standing Committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Monday took several decisions with regard to developmental activities in the GHMC limits.

Presiding over the meeting held at GHMC Headquarters at Tank Bund, Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain instructed the GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu to hold a meeting with the Standing Committee members within two weeks regarding shifting of electrical polls.

Muslim pilgrims rush to complete final Haj rituals

Muslim pilgrims rushed to complete the final rituals of the annual haj today as they thronged a Saudi devil-stoning site on the penultimate day of the pilgrimage.

Most pilgrims will hurl rocks at three pillars representing Satan between noon and sunset, leaving the holy city of Mina before dusk.

But others will stay on in Mina until tomorrow when they will perform the stoning ritual one final time.

Worshippers living outside Mecca will have to perform the farewell circumambulation around the Kaaba, a cube-shaped structure in Mecca towards which Muslims worldwide pray.

People won’t pardon UPA for corruption: Advani

Orphanage director held for raping minor girl

An orphanage director was today arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl inmate, police said.

Swami Poornananda (52) was apprehended under section section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC after the victim lodged a complaint against him, they said.

The accused is head of the city-based Swami Gnananda Ashram which houses an orphanage and old-age home.

He was picked up from the Ashram premises along with a woman, police said.

Maoists set Essar vehicles on fire in Andhra

Two Essar Company vehicles were set on fire allegedly by Naxals near a tribal hamlet in the district, police said today.

Two vehicles comprising a Bolero jeep and a truck of Essar Company were set afire by suspected ultras under GK Veedhi Mandal limits near Digajenaba tribal hamlet three days back, they said adding, a complaint regarding the incident was lodged by the Company officials today.

Mala Mahanadu’s Kadapa convenor murdered

Kadapa district convener of Mala Mahanadu, Sagar, was brutally murdered by some unidentified persons here on Sunday.

According to police, some unidentified assailants attacked Sagar with lethal weapons at the Pullaredypet Bypass Road junction near Duvvur mandal headquarters on Sunday morning. The attackers fled the scene after inflicting multiple injuries to Sagar. A profusely bleeding Sagar was shifted to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be established. The police has registered a case and started investigations.

Burglars strike at one more temple in Old City

In another case of temple burglary in the Old City, some unidentified thieves broke open into the Mahankali Temple of Uppguda and stole cash and gold worth nearly Rs 5 lakh.

The burglary, suspected to have occurred on Saturday night, was noticed on Sunday morning when constables of Chatrinaka police station were patrolling the area. The constables noticed that the lock of temple’s main door was broken. On receiving information, senior police officials, CLUES team and fingerprints experts reached the spot.

“One way traffic for ID-UL-ZUHA prayers

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma today notified that in order to facilitate proper control and regulation of traffic in connection with Id-ul-zuha (Bakrid) prayers at the Mir Alam Tank Idgah and the Secunderabad Idgah, “one way” traffic regulation will be enforced on the following roads on October 27 from 8 am to 11.30 am.

Car Mishap : TV artiste held for Boy’s death

Television actress Archana was taken into custody by the police here on Friday. It may be mentioned here that as part of a serial shooting in Chandanagar area, Archana, who was driving a car, lost control over the vehicle and rammed two child artistes. As a result, one boy, a child artiste was run over while his sister also an artiste suffered multiple injuries.

On receipt of the information, the police visited the spot and took the TV artiste into custody.

Home Guard hit during black film car check

A home guard sustained injuries during the “operation black film” launched by the Traffic Police at Jubilee Hills check-post this morning.

As part of the drive against cars having tinted glass or door solar shades, a Home Guard posted near the check-post, on noticing a swanky BMW car having black film tried to stop the vehicle and in the process was hit by the speeding vehicle. The injured home guard was rushed to the hospital.

RSS distances from BJP chief Nitin Gadkari issue

Operation Black Film: Cops book over 3,000 cases

On the first day of its Special Drive “Operation Black Film” against the use of tint films on the safety glasses of 4-wheelers, the Hyderabad Traffic Police on Thursday registered as many as 3,411 cases against the violators.

They include 13 police vehicles, 29 vehicles of others government departments and 35 big vehicles like buses and trucks. These cases have been registered across 25 Traffic Police till 4 pm on Thursday.

Governor ESL Narasimhan on Friday greeted Muslims brethren on the occasion of Bakrid festival.

“On the solemn occasion of Id-Ul-Zuha, I extend my cordial greetings and good wishes to all my Muslim brethren,” the Governor said in a special message. He said Bakrid symbolizes sacrifice, absolute devotion to God and compassion for the poor. It also emphasises the principle of sharing what one has with others, he said.

Naidu confronts T-activists, gets pat from Balakrishna

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday claimed that his party has already clarified its stand on the Telangana issue.

Responding to the allegations of some pro-Telangana activists during the fifth day of his “Vastunna Mee Kosam” padayatra in Mahabubnagar district, Naidu said that he has already written a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the issue. Despite giving clarification, some activists tried to disrupt his speech at Boodidhapadu in Maldhakal mandal. However, Naidu continued his speech while ignoring the Telangana activists.

Ramoji Rao appears before court in defamation case

Media baron Ramoji Rao on Friday appeared before a special court here in connection with a defamation case filed against him.

Following summons issued by 2nd Special Magistrate Court, Ramoji Rao appeared in person before the court with regard to a case filed by Chandrasekhar Rao, son of a revenue official. In his complaint, Chandrasekhar alleged that defamatory articles were published against his father Janardhan Rao in Eanadu newspaper, owned by Ramoji Rao.

Seven miscreants arrested for Musheerabad riots

The Hyderabad police have arrested seven miscreants allegedly involved in the communal riots that took place in Musheerabad last night. Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma said in a press release this evening.

YSRCP demands nine subsidised LPG cylinders for all

The YSR Congress Party on Thursday demanded that the State Government extend the supply of nine subsidised cooking gas cylinders to all domestic consumers as being implemented in Congress ruled states.
