Congress intensifies efforts to convince MIM

The ruling Congress party has intensified its efforts to convince the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen to revise its decision of severing ties from the Congress party, both at the Centre and State levels.

According to sources, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, former minister Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Rajya Sabha member MA Khan and a few other Congress leaders spoke to MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi and his younger brother Akbaruddin Owaisi on Tuesday asking them to reconsider their decision. However, sources say that the MIM leaders showed no signs of getting convinced.

Swamy Paripoorna arrested while trying to proceed Charminar

The police on Monday arrested Sri Peetadhipathi Swami Paripurnananda and many others, when they participated in a rally near Charminar and tried to go to the Bhagyalaxmi temple.

Bharateeya Janata Party (BJP) and Hindu organizations have taken out the rally, condemning what they said as the Government’s attitude towards the MIM on the issue of Bhagyalaxmi temple. The organizations proposed to take out the rally up to Bhagyalaxmi temple. Swamy Paripurnananda and several leaders of Hindu organizations participated in the rally.

Police driving me to suicide: Pinki Pramanik

Alleging a “huge conspiracy” after police filed a chargesheet claiming she was a male, South Asian Games gold medallist athlete Pinki Pramanik Monday said the investigating authorities were trying to force her to commit suicide.

Pinki said that contrary to the police claim, the medical report had concluded that she was incapable of committing rape. However, she said despite requests, she had not been given a copy of the medical report.

Uneasy calm in old Hyderabad after row over temple

An uneasy calm settled over the old city of Hyderabad on Monday, a day after leaders of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) protested and were subsequently arrested over a temple controversy.

With tension still palpable in the usually busy areas around historic Charminar and in the interior areas, Road Transport Corporation (RTC) suspended all its bus services. RTC officials said 157 services were cancelled as a precautionary measure.

A curfew-like situation prevailed in the usually busy markets around Charminar. All schools and colleges declared a holiday.

No threat to KKR Government: Botsa

Pradesh Congress President Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday claimed that there was no threat to the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government due to the withdrawal of support by the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.

Talking to reporters here, Botsa expressed confidence that the government would continue its full term till 2014. However, he said that talks would be held with the MIM leaders to resolve the differences and misunderstandings. He also claimed that the government did not favour anyone on the issue of Bhagyalakshmi Temple abutting Charminar.

YSR Congress asks Naidu to move No Confidence Motion

The YSR Congress party on Monday demanded that the opposition Telugu Desam Party introduce No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government as the government has slipped into minority following the MIM’s withdrawal of support to it.

Srikanth Reddy told media persons here that Naidu should seize the opportunity now and teach a fitting lesson to the Government by introducing no-confidence motion as he has been telling day in and day out in his padayatra that the Government has been taking anti-people decisions.

CM announces sops for minorities on Moulana Azad’s birthday

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy announced that three more competitive exams coaching centres for minority students would be opened at Nizamabad, Cuddapah and Chittoor, soon.

The proposed centres will be in addition to four centres already functioning at Hyderabad, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool. The Chief Minister has also sanctioned Rs 15 crores for the repairs of Mosques and churches in the State.

Judiciary to be targeted: Kejriwal

After taking on politicians and businessmen, India Against Corruption will now target the judiciary, Arvind Kejriwal said today.

Cops foil men’s bid to storm CM’s office

The police today frustrated attempts of the students belonging to Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) to
lay siege to the Chief Minister’s Camp Office at Begumpet.

The PDSU members resorted to a flash dharna at the CM’s Camp Office demanding that the State government bear subsidy burden of gas cylinders on Social Welfare hostels. When they rushed towards the main gate of the Camp Office to barge into the premises, the eagle-eyed police personnel thwarted their attempts and took them into custody

Love maniac stabs girl to death

Yet another love maniac has stabbed a girl for not loving him. This ghastly incident occurred in Gundala village of

State aims to recruit 1,000 youth per day through RYK

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday said that through Rajiv Yuva Kiranaalu (RYK) programme, the State Government aims to provide jobs to 1,000 youth per day.

Describing RYK a great initiative, the Chief Minister said that the departments would have to scale up their activities of training and placements and achieve the task they set for themselves. “The satisfactory level of the programme is 90 per cent in the State and hence we have to go all out to improve the performance by constant and regular monitoring, coordination and integration”, he said.
