Judges need to be sensitive towards litigants: CJI

Judges need to have change of mind set and be more sensitive to the problems of litigants who approach them for getting timely justice, Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir said on Sunday.

“Lack of sensitivity creates distance between justice seeker and provider. There is a need of change in mindset of judicial officers. They should be sensitive,” he said while recalling a case where a minor child had to wait for seven years for getting compensation for loss of her leg in a road accident.

MM Joshi condoles Thackery’s death

BJP senior leader Dr Murali Manohar Joshi condoled the death of Shiva Sena supremo Bal Thackery.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a semiar on “FDI in Retail” held at Jubilee Hall here on Saturday, Dr Joshi described Bal Thackery as a good friend who played a major role in strengthening the BJP at the national level. He said with Bal Thackery’s death, the BJP has sufferred irreparable loss.

Two minutes silence was also observed after the seminar in respect of Bal Thackery.

AP names Dalit Colony after Suu Kyi

A Dalit colony in a village of Anantapur district was named after Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to mark her visit on Saturday.

The Noble Laureate was greeted by the residents of a Scheduled Caste enclave in Papasanipalli villager by standing below a huge banner that had the name “Aung San Suu Kyi Colony”. Speaking on the occasion, Suu Kyi thanked the villagers for the gesture and said she would always maintain a special connection with the village.

Man tries to kill self before DGP’s office alleging police harassment

Alleging harassment by the police, an alleged eye-witness of a murder case, attempted to commit suicide before the State Police Headquarters at Lakdi-ka-Pul here on Saturday.

The man, who was later identified as Vamsi Krishna, a native of Rajahmundry, came to the DGP office and poured kerosene on his body and tried to set himself ablaze. However, some passersby rushed to his rescue and prevented him from taking the extreme step. While a passerby poured water on his body, the security personnel at the DGP’s office overpowered him.

Women protest against arrest of Muslim youths

Demanding release of detained youths a group of women gatecrashed in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of police Task Force at Purani Haveli sending police shivers down spine.

The Task force sleuths during the riots had picked up as many as fifty protestors (mostly youths) on the point of suspicion and shifted them to the Task force office.

On coming to know the detention of their children in Purani Haveli office, a group of ten women arrived there and demanded release.

Cong complains to SHRC against MIM

The rift between the Congress and the MIM was increasing day by day. Both the parties have been competitively lodging complaints against each other, with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).

On Thursday, the Congress party lodged a complaint against the MIM alleging that the latter was the reason for the unrest across the Old City, countering the MIM’s complaint lodged on Wednesday against the Congress. The Congress has also urged the SHRC to initiate action against the MIM, which caused the communal riots in Old City.

Minister assures action against illegal fire crackers unit

Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Ganta Srinivas Rao on Tuesday asked the district administration to take stern action against those involved in the illegal manufacturing of fire crackers.

The minister visited the King’s George Hospital here to meet the children who were injured while preparing firecrackers in an illegal unit at Lakshmidevapeta of Anakapalli on Sunday. The minister was informed that as many as seven children were injured in the fire accient and the condition of 15-year-old Gautam was serious.

Trainee constables booked for molesting minor

Police today booked two trainee constables on the charge of molesting a minor girl here.

Later, the victim, a student of class VIII, disclosed that only one of the constables molested her. He was later identified as Sunil Kumar.

According to police, the girl was staying with her mother in a rented house. A youth was residing there as a paying guest and was a friend of the two constables. The constables stayed in his room last night.

Old City remains peaceful in curfew-like situation

A curfew-like situation prevailed in several areas of the Old City for third consecutive day on Tuesday although a few markets witnessed some activitiy in view of Deepawali festival.

Large number of police and para-military forces remained deployed in the Old City, especially in the sensitive areas. Senior police officials including South Zone DCP Akun Sabharwal patrolled the areas to monitor the situation. Although the markets surrounding Charminar remained closed, the Mir Alam Mandi, Pathergatti, Madina Market and other areas in Kotla Alijah did some business in the afternoon.
