Syed Ibrahim IPS set to be first Muslim chief of IB

Syed Asif Ibrahim, a 1977 batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, is set to take over as the new director of Intelligence Bureau. Ibrahim, who will succeed incumbent Nehchal Sandhu who is due to retire in December end, will be the first Muslim officer to head the country’s premier intelligence agency.

External intelligence agency RAW will also see a change at the helm, with Alok Joshi, a 1976 batch officer of the Haryana cadre, being chosen to succeed Sanjeev Tripathi as the new head.

Cong MLC demands Sub-Plan for Minorities

Congress MLC MS Prabhakar on Saturday demanded that the State Government introduce a Sub-Plan for Minorities in the State on the lines of SC, ST Sub-Plan.

Talking to reporters here, Prabhakar thanked Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for convening a special session of the State Legislative Assembly to legislate the SC, ST Sub-Plan. He said that this would ensure focused development of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the State. Further, he appealed to the Chief Minister to introduce Minorities Sub-Plan to ensure proper implementation of schemes for the welfare of minorities.

TRS accuses YSR of shattering Telangana dream

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Saturday accused former Chief Minster late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy of cheating the people of Telangana.

Talking to media persons here, TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao said that the Congress party returned to power in 2004 due to its alliance with the TRS. He said although YSR had assured that he would respect the Telangana sentiments, he used his wealth to sabotage the TRS and statehood movement. State Cabinet rejects CBI’s plea to prosecute Dharmana

The State Cabinet on Friday rejected the plea of Central Bureau of Investigation to prosecute Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, who has been named as an accused in the Vanpic land allotment case.

Prasada Rao, who has tendered his resignation on August 14 after being named as the fifth accused in the case, has stopped attending office. He announced that he would not discharge his duties as Minister until he comes out clean in the case. However, a majority of ministers have pressurised the Chief Minister not to accept his resignation.

Inter exams from March 6, SCC from March 22

Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy on Friday announced the schedule for the intermediate and SSC examinations.

Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat here, Parthasarathy informed that the intermediate examinations will be held from March 6 to 23th. As many as 9,83,418 students will appear for the inter first year exam, while 9,94,001 students will write the second year exam. The minister said that the jumbling system would be introduced for the intermediate students from this year.

Another flat burgled in Chilkalguda

House burglars struck again in Chilkalguda of Secunderabad and fled with gold ornaments weighing 500 grams and liquid cash of Rs 6,000. This is the third time that burglars struck in Chilkalguda.

According to the information, the owners of a flat in Garonda Apartment on the fourth floor locked the house and went away to visit a relative’s house on Wednesday. The residents of an adjoining flat were shocked to see the lock of the house broken and alerted the flat owner on mobile. The house owner rushed back to the house and found the burglary.

School Principal held for caning LKG students

The principal of Orbit Grammar School at Fatehnagar near Sanath Nagar was arrested on Thursday for allegedly thrashing a five year old student indiscriminately.

According to the information, the victim Mohd Ghouse is an LKG student in the school. The principal Mumtaz Ahmed allegedly caned the kid indiscriminately resulting in bruises on his back, on the charge that the boy was going frequently going to the toilet for urination.

Jagan’s judicial custody extended till Dec 5

The judicial remand of Kadapa MP and YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was today extended till December 5 by the special CBI court here in the disproportionate assets case against him.

The court also extended the remand of other accused, including former Andhra Pradesh excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao and VANPIC project developer Nimmagadda Prasad.

Proceedings were conducted through video-conference with Chanchalguda jail, where the accused are lodged.

Cong MLC asks defectors to quit party by December

PCC leader disputes old pictures of Charminar

PCC General Secretary G Niranjan on Thursday disputed the old photographs of historic Charminar to reiterate his claim that the Bhagyalakshmi Temple abutting the monument exists for a long time.

Niranjan claimed that the temple was not visible in the pictures as they were taken from a long distance. However, he admitted that till 1979, it was just a two-three feet idol and after it got damaged after being hit by a RTC bus, the then Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy ordered the construction of a temple through Endowments Department.
