All-party meet will be most decisive for Telangana: Ponnala

Information Technology Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah on Thursday hoped that the all-party meeting being held in New Delhi on December 28 would be final meeting on the Telangana issue.

Talking to reporters after inspecting the works of Tourism Department’s Haritha Hotel at Hanamkonda, Ponnala said that the meeting would be the last in series of efforts made by the Centre to resolve the issue. However, he demanded that the Centre take a decision in favour of granting statehood for the region after the all-party meeting.

GHMC Standing Committee approves Rs 3,800 Cr budget for 2013-14

The Standing Committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Thursday approved the corporation’s Rs 3,800 crore budget for the financial year 2013-14.

Addressing a press conference after the Standing Committee’s meeting at GHMC Headquarters at Tank Bun, GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain and Commissioner MT Krishna Babu informed that the budget for 2013-14 would be of Rs 3,800. However, the revised budget will be of Rs 2,664 crore. They said that the budget would be presented before the GHMC’s General Body for final approval.

Probe should cover Babu’s deals: YSRCP

YSR Congress has demanded the Centre to include the name of TDP leader N Chandababu Naidu in the terms of reference of the judicial probe it has ordered into the huge amount spent by retail giant Walmart for its entry into India.

“It becomes very imperative to include his name in the terms of reference as a top official of Heritage Foods, owned by his family members, had announced that they are scouting for foreign investments,” the party spokesperson Janak Prasad told reporters here on Thursday.

T-decision after plenary session: Botsa

The Congress party will take decision on its stand on the Telangana issue after the party’s plenary session being held on December 16.

Talking to reporters after reviewing the arrangements for the session at LB Stadium here on Thursday, PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana said that the party would discuss and finalise the decision on Telangana issue to be conveyed during the all-party meeting on December 28 after the party’s plenary session. He said that the representatives for the all-party meeting would also be shortlisted after the plenary session.

CM asks officials to prepare estimates to renovate Hayat Bakshi Begum Mosque

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today asked the State Archaeological department officials to prepare estimates for renovation of the Hayat Bakshi Begum Mosque at Hayathnagar under L.B.Nagar Assembly constituency.

A delegation consisting of Mirza Saleem Baig, Shamsheer Ali and others, led by local MLA D. Sudheer Reddy called on the Chief Minister this morning at camp office and requested him to sanction funds for the completion of renovation of the mosque since it was assured to be completed during the “Ramzan” of 2010.

T congress leaders sore over centre calling two reps from each party

Expressing concern over the Union Home Minsitry inviting two representatives from each political party to the all-party meeting on Telangana issue on December 28, the Telangana Congress leaders have said the issue would not be solved if two leaders from each party participated in the meeting.

Speaking to the media at the CLP office here on Wednesday, MLCs Yadava Reddy and Bhanu Prasad said that inviting two leaders from each party indicated that Union Home Minister Susheel Kumar Shinde himself was giving a chance to leaders to express two opinions on the Telangana issue.

Hyderabad, Dec.12 (NSS): TDP senior leader Yanamala Rama Krishnudu has lashed out at the Congress and the YSR Congress by stating that they do not have clarity on the Telangana issue or the SC categorization.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said the YSR Congress has copied everything from its name, schemes, flag and agenda. There was total confusion on the policies among the leaders and cadres, he said and added that every one was wondering how long the party would last, if its leader would come out, how many presidents were there and whose word should be followed.

Sujana Chowdhary apologises for “dogs” remarks

TDP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sujana Chowdhary on Wednesday apologised to his party colleagues for referring them to as “dogs” when they criticised his abstention from Rajya Sabha during voting on FDI issue.

Reacting to criticism over his abstention, he reportedly remarked that “dogs would bark when elephants walk”. Condemning their reaction, he said some leaders were criticising him although they do not match his stature. However, his reported remarks drew more criticism within the Telugu Desam Party.

Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court here on Wednesday.

Governor ESL Narasimhan administered the oath of office to Justice Ghosh at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, senior members of the judiciary, ministers and other officials were present in the swearing-in ceremony.

AP cops warn of strict action to check drug menace

Andhra Pradesh Police today said that stringent action will be taken to counter the use of narcotics in the run up to the New Year.

At a co-ordination meeting held on the issue of drug trafficking by CID Additional Director General of Police T Krishna Prasad and senior police officers of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates, it was decided to take stringent measures to counter the use of drugs.

Terror strike possible from LeT, IM: home ministry

Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and Indian Mujahidin and two Sikh militant groups have threatened to carry out terror acts in India, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

“The available intelligence inputs indicate abiding interest of militant outfits like LeT, IM,

Babbar Khalsa International and Khalistan Tiger Force to carry out terrorist violence in India,” Minister of State for Home R P N Singh said.
However, central intelligence agencies have no specific inputs indicating threat from Taliban, he said.

Cops swing lathis to disperse CPM protestors

Several CPM protestors were grievously injured when the police swung their lathis on them at the district Collectorate here on Tuesday, when they staged a dharna demanding that the State government find lasting solutions to the people’s burning problems.

Five arrested for stealing treasure trove in old city

Commissioner’s Task Force, East Zone Team, has apprehended five members of a seven-member gang that had stolen priceless gold coins, gold and silver ornaments hidden in a wall, while demolishing an old house at Doodbowli and kept treasure trove with them without informing the house owner or depositing it with the government.

The team recovered about 1,690 gram gold coins and jewellery; about 4,200 gram of silver ornaments and articles and about 490 gram of imitation silver Jewellery.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International president Praveen Togadia today dared Muslims not to stop Hindus from performing pooja at Bhagyalaxmi Temple near Charminar. Corporal punishment: NHRC issues notices to AP, MP govts

National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued notices to Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh governments in separate cases of corporal punishment and asked them to submit reports within four weeks.

The issuance of notices came following NHRC taking cognisance of media reports about “brutal treatment” meted to school going boys by their teachers in the two states.

In one of the cases, a nine-year-old student of Ushodaya Merit School in Kakinada (AP) suffered injuries when his teacher beat caned him on his left hand for not covering his books properly.

T-Congress MPs file House Contempt petition against CM

Opening a new front against Chief Minsiter N Kiran Kumar Reddy, five Congress MPs from Telangana region on Tuesday moved a contempt petition against him for their arrest during Telangana March held on September 30.

The MPs Manda Jagannatham, G Vivek, Ponnam Prabhakar, S Rajaiah and Madhu Yashki Goud – in their petition, lodged before Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, alleged that the Chief Minister got them arrested illegally. They requested the Speaker to take necessary action against Kiran Kumar Reddy by registering Contempt of the House case against him.

Venkaiah Naidu condemns police lathicharge in Nalgonda

Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu has condemned the lathi charge by the police in Nalgonda on Tuesday.

In a statement, Venkaiah Naidu alleged that the police resorted to “brutal” lathicharge on innocent people, particularly the women. “It was not a lathi charge, it was an indiscriminate attack by the police on not only the innocent people but also the BJP leaders,” he asked.

“Is this the way the police behave in a democracy? Does the Government think that they can suppress the protests by arrests and lathi charge?” he asked.

Kodandaram releases poster of “Telangana Dhoom Dham”

Telangana Political JAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Tuesday released a wall poster of 10th anniversary celebrations of “Telangana Dhoom Dham”.

The programme will be held on December 22 at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium in Public Gardens. While the “Maata-Paata” will be conducted from 10 am to 5 pm, the Dhoom Dham programme will be held from 6 pm in the Lalit Kala Thoranam at Nampally. TRS president K Chadrasekhara Rao and other leaders of pro-Telangana parties are likely to participate in the programme.

Minorities finance corporation scam accused granted bail

The sixth additional chief metropolitan magistrate at Nampally today granted bails to two accused allegedly involved in the multicrore State Minorities Finance corporation scam.

The court granted bails to the accused No 1 CVK Sai Kumar and his associate accused No 2 Venkata Raman after the CID failed to file a charge sheet against them within 60 days of stipulated time. As per the criminal procedure code the investigating agency has to complete its investigation and file a chargesheet within the fixed two months time failing which the accused deserves the right to obtain bail.
