OU teachers urge for protection from students

Osmania University Teachers Association (OUTA) has approached the State Human Rights Commission urging it to stop the attacks on professors by the students.

On Thursday, the OUTA representatives have brought to the notice of the Commission that some students had attacked Journalism Department Professor K Narender, hatching a conspiracy on December 17.

Congress senior leader K Kesava Rao has said that there would be no serious betrayal of the people, than denying Telangana.

SPF chief asks media to advocate for truth

Special Protection Force Inspector General PV Sunil Kumar asked the media to advocate the cause of truth, the weak and the most vulnerable in the society.

Addressing a communication and journalism award ceremony at Amruthavani Communications Centre here on Thursday, Sunil Kumar called upon the young journalists to focus on bringing out the truth rather than the private lives of people of fame and business interests. He spoke of the importance of media in the lives of people saying that there are 7,000 news papers in the world and 1400 news channels in India.

TDP workers clash with T-activists in Karimnagar

Tension prevailed in Boorgupalli village of Karimnagar district following a clash between the TDP workers and pro-Telangana activists during TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s “Vastunna Mee Kosam” padayatra.

Tension began when Naidu’s padayatra, which entered sixth day in Karimnagar on Thursday, was intercepted by pro-Telangana activists in Boorgupalli village of Gangadhara mandal. They raised slogans demanding that Naidu expresses his stand on the Telangana issue. However, they were confronted by the TDP activities resulting in both groups pelting stones at each other.

Minorities voted for Modi in Gujarat: Dattatreyya

BJP senior leader Bandaru Dattatreyya has claimed that the minorities in Gujarat have voted for Narendra Modi in the Assembly elections whose results were declared on Thursday.

Talking to media persons, Dattatreyya said that BJP candidates have won 29 out of 38 constituencies which were dominated by the minorities. These results clearly prove that Muslims and other minorities have voted for Narendra Modi. He said instead of falling prey to the vote bank politics of Congress party, the minorities in Gujarat have supported Modi’s pro-development initiatives.

Jagan’s bail petition hearing adjourned to Dec 24

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing to December 24 on the statutory bail petition of YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case.

Sources say that the court has completed the hearing on the arguments from both sides – Jagan and CBI and it is expected to deliver its verdict on Monday.

GHMC begins demolition of 54 properties for HMR

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday began the demolition of 54 properties to take up massive road widening programme in all the three corridors of Hyderabad Metro Rail.

According to GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu, in the Line No 1 (LB Nagar to Miyapur) of HMR from Chaderghat to Model School, there were about 54 properties getting affected but the same were declared as Government Vested with Municipalities Lands. The government has constituted a Committee headed by the Commissioner for finalizing the land rates to be fixed for the GVM Properties also.

Mopidevi gets 10-day interim bail to visit Sabarimala

A special CBI court on Tuesday granted interim bail to former Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana to visit Sabarimala.

In his petition filed on December 10, Mopidevi sought court’s permission to visit Sabarimala in Kerela from December 24 to January 2 as he has taken the Deeksha of Ayappa Swami. The bail petition was opposed by the CBI. However, the court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Mopidevi for 10 days allowing him to visit Sabarimala.

City Police arrest 139 eve-teasers

As a part of special drive, the Commissioner’s Task Force teams conducted special checking at various place in the city and arrested a total of 139 eve teasers.

The North Zone Team arrested 35 eve teasers at St Johns School, Secunderabad Railway Station, Wesley Girls College, Rathifile Bus Stop in the limits of Gopalpuram and Market Police Stations. Similarly, the West Zone Team apprehended 11 eve teasers at SR Nagar Bus Stop in the limits of Sanjeev Reddy Nagar Police Station.

Sharmila undergoes knee surgery

YSR Congress leader Sharmila on Tuesday underwent surgery at the Apollo Hospital.

According to a medical bulletin issued by the hospital, Sharmila underwent Arthoroscopic (key hole) surgery during which three injuries – Grade-2- medial collateral tear, interstitial Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear and Cartilage injury to patella and lateral condyle of femur were noted. These injuries were appropriately dealt with during the surgical procedure, the bulletin said.

Etala condemns attack on Warangal TRS office

Telangana Rashtra Samithi floor leader Etala Rajender on Tuesday condemned the attack on TRS Warangal office allegedly by YSR Congress party activists.

Major fire breaks out at Begumpet Aiport,2 Air Crafts gutted

A major fire broke out at Begumpet Airport tonight in which two aircrafts were gutted while causing loss to the tune of crores of rupees. The fire was first was reported by the security staff of the airport and as many as 7 fire tenders from various fire stations in city were rushed to the spot.

The fire broke out in the aircraft maintenance shed in which two parked aircrafts were engulfed in the fire. The jet fuel present in the aircrafts caused blasts resulting in huge sounds. During the incident costly spare parts of the aircrafts were totally gutted.

TJAC Kodandaram may attend all party meeting

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday called upon Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) M Kodandaram to accompany him in the all-party meeting on Telangana on December 28. If all goes well, KCR and Kodandaram would represent TRS in the all-party meeting, party sources said.

On Monday, Kodandaram met separately KCR and BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, and discussed the strategies to be laid down to build pressure on the Centre ahead of the all-party meeting.

Tollywood actor in police custody for carrying drugs

The city police have arrested a Tollywood actor Abhishek for possessing drugs and kept him in custody for interrogation.

Telangana Nagara Samiti leader Dr. Nagam Janardana Reddy has described the Congress leaders and ministers of the Telangana region as zombies (dead bodies). He said the soul of Sonia Gandhi entered the bodies and was making them dance to its tunes.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, he said Telangana would be possible only when Congress leaders of Telangana were buried. He said he would tour the constituencies of the ministers to mount pressure on them to leave their posts. He has also described Telangana ministers as tigers outside and cats inside.

Sharmila’s injured knee shatters walkathon dream on birthday

The dream of YSR Congress party leader Sharmila to undertake super-walkathon of nearly 3,000 kilometre was shattered after she was admitted in a hospital on Monday for knee surgery.

Sharmila, who launched her Maro Praja Prasthanam padayatra on October 19 from Idupulapaya of Kadapa district, was admitted in the Apollo Hospitals at Jubilee Hills where she is likely to undergo a key hole surgery on Tuesday.

TRS rejects PCC’s tributes to Telangana martyrs

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Monday rejected the tributes paid to Telangana martyrs during the Congress party’s state-level convention.

Talking to reporters here, TRS MLA K Tarakarama Rao said that the martyrs were not paid tributes, but insulted by the Congress party. He said it appeared as if “murderers” were paying tributes to their victims. Describing the Congress leaders from the Telangana as “slaves” of Seemandhra leaders, he said it was shocking that those leaders want to continue with a party where they were forced to fight even to pay tributes to the martyrs.

Union Minister of State for Tourism Chiranjeevi has said that he has come into politics only to serve the people. He said he was trying to fulfill the duties assigned to him by the people.

The former actor has said that the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi always thinks about the welfare of the poor and makes the government formulate schemes towards this end. Chiranjeevi said FDIs would benefit the farmers. He also lamented that those who drew benefits from Sonia Gandhi were trying to destabilize the Congress governments.
