PIL in SC for release of Afzal’s body, framing of guidelines

A petition was today filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the government for handing over Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s body to his family and for laying down guidelines on the issue of relatives’ claims over bodies of executed prisoners.

The PIL also sought judicial interpretation of the right to claim bodies of convicts after their execution.

Post SC order, Andhra ready to conduct local body

Andhra Pradesh government Monday said it is in favour of conducting local body polls in the state as early as possible in the wake of Supreme Court order that the elections be held on the basis of existing 60.5 per cent quota.

“We will be ready to conduct the elections soon,” State Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy told reporters here.

Meanwhile, state Election Commissioner P Ramakant Reddy said the Commission would be ready to conduct the elections within 90 days once the government decides on the issues of reservation and delimitation.

BJP demands immediate release of notification on local body elections

BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy, demanded government to immediately release notification to conduct local body elections, basing on the interim-orders issued by supreme court. He also demanded YSRCP leaders Sharmila and Anil to prove their sincerity with regard to allegations made by his party’s spokesperson NVVS Prabhakar.

Speaking to the media persons at the state secretariat on Monday, he recalled that court has given a verdict in his party’s favor when it has filed case three times earlier, opposing religious reservations granted to Muslims.

Telangana can be achieved only with votes and seats: KCR

Condemning the CPI State secretary Dr K Narayana’s criticism that the Telangana issue will not be cleared with the votes and seats, TRC Chief K Chandrashekar Rao has said that he was leaving it to the wisdom of Narayana.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, KCR said that one could be in a position to dictate the Parliament in case he wins 15 MP seats and nobody will stop the resolution on Telangana in the Assembly if a party committed to Telangana won 100 MLA seats.

High court rejects IPS officer Umesh Kumar’s plea

The AP high court has rejected the petition filed by Umesh Kumar in connection with the charge of forging the signature of Rajyasaba, member M A Khan.

The court has denied his request for transferring the case from the CID court to another court.

Aadhar services will now be available in mee-seva centres

State IT minister Ponnala Laxmaiah, announced that ‘Aadhar’ services would be available at all the ‘Mee Seva’ centres henceforth.

Speaking after inaugurating the services at the RTA office premises in Khairathabad, the minister said that people who need to enroll afresh or those who lost their cards or the ones who registered but had not received their cards could get all these services at the Mee Seva centres.

Delay in justice a major challenge, says CJI Altamas Kabir

Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir today said a major problem being faced in delivery of criminal justice was delay “where the entire process takes almost 15-16 years”.

Delivering Justice P D Desai memorial lecture here on ‘Administration of Criminal Justice’, Justice Kabir said, “Today a major problem is delay where the entire process, from the time when an offence is registered to the stage of final conviction, takes almost 15 to 16 years.

“I hope everyone involved in the process would perform their duty to expedite the wheels of justice,” he added.

Afzal hanging: over 50 arrested for stone-peltin

Over 50 youths have been arrested for allegedly being involved in stone-pelting during protests that rocked parts of the Kashmir following execution of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.

“Police have arrested 53 persons from different districts of the Valley on the

charges of stone-pelting and creating trouble after Guru’s hanging,” a police spokesman said.
Protests were held at many places across Kashmir even after authorities imposed curfew in the Valley after Guru was hanged in Tihar Jail in Delhi on February 9.

Declaring that he would mobilize six crore people over next one and a half years for his anti-graft campaign, Anna Hazare on Sunday said Jan Lokpal alone cannot root out corruption and called for comprehensive electoral reforms and empowering of village-level bodies.

Addressing a public meeting here, he said his fight was for changing the entire system and called upon youths to join hands with him. The 75-year-old said Jan Lokpal can control 50 to 55 percent corruption.

Don’t mourn, respect my stature: Last words of Afzal Guru

Just 95 minutes before his hanging, Afzal Guru wrote to his family requesting not to bemoan his death but respect the stature he has attained.

Putting all speculations to rest, Guru’s family released the letter, written in Urdu, on Sunday, eight days after he was hanged in Tihar jail.

In his letter addressed to his family and the “faithfuls”, Guru wrote: “Thanks to Almighty Allah who has chosen me for this stature. I congratulate all the faithfuls who sided with truth and righteousness. Let the afterlife be the end for our means to truth and righteousness.”

TDP announces six point programme to counter congress

TDP has on Sunday announced a six-point programme the first point of which was to control the corruption of Congress, to contain and challenge the ruling party.

CM directs Ministers to attend relief work in rain effected areas

The chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed Ministers J. Geeta Reddy and Sridhar Babu to immediately undertake personal supervision of relief works in Medak and Karimnagar districts which were ravaged by untimely rains yesterday and the day before.

The chief minister also directed ministers and senior officials to immediately get reports from collectors of all rain-affected districts and organize relief work.

Errabelli says KCR will sell party to congress

Telangana TDP convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao has lashed out at TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao saying that the latter lacked interest in formation of Telangana State.

Court asks CBI to cite reasons for extending Jagan’s remand

The CBI court has expressed its impatience towards CBI keeping on extending the remand of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The remand of Jagan expired on Thursday. The court examined him through video conferencing to extend it.
The court directed the CBI’s counsel to explain specific reasons for extending the remand of the Kadapa MP. The court also directed the agency to keep it posted of the progress of the investigation to it every 15 days.

Bajrang Dal warns Hyderabad youths from celebrating V-Day

Bajrang Dal has asked city youths to refrain from celebrating the Valentines Day on Thursday, saying it was against the values of Indian culture.

“We have asked city police commissioner not to grant any special permission for Valentines Day celebrations. We also appeal to managements of resorts and pubs not to organise special programmes to celebrate the occasion,” Bajrang Dal’s city president Vinod Kumar said.

Centre gathers crucial inputs from Governor to resolve T issue

AP Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan seem to be playing a pivotal role in guiding the central leadership in its task of finding a solution to the crucial issue of separate Telangana State.

PCC complaints to Police-morphing CMs photo

PCC official spokespersons have lodged a complaint with the City Crime Station located at Control Room premises here on Wednesday asking the police to initiate action against the persons who were posting the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s image by morphing his photo and posting abusive messages along with them.

The complainants, PCC official spokesperson Maddineni Ajay and others, have alleged that the photo had been uploaded from ‘Telangana Muddubidda’ website and the up-loaders have themselves described that they were TRSV leader Balka Suman’s fans.
