Hyderabad blasts: Cops get ‘clear clues’, question 30 people

Investigators are believed to have obtained certain “clear clues” based on CCTV footage at the site of the twin blasts in Hyderabad and questioning of some jailed terror suspects here even as a letter purportedly written by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed responsibility.

Sources said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while being briefed by state DGP V Dinesh Reddy here about the progress in the investigations so far was told certain “clear clues” were obtained based on footage of the CCTV cameras at the scene and also questioning of some terror suspects lodged in jails here.

Yanamala condemns disruption of TD peace rally in city

Former Speaker and TDP Politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu here on Sunday lashed out at the State government for disrupting a “peace rally” taken out by his party on the pretext of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s tour in the city.

In a statement, Ramakrishnudu stated that in the wake of hanging of Parliament House attack accused Afzal Guru recently, both the State and Union governments had failed to initiate adequate security measures and alert the people against the impending bomb blasts in spite of the Central Intelligence forces pre-warned the government.

Kishan gets letter in LeT’s name on further attacks

State BJP president G Kishan Reddy said he received a threatening letter in the name of Lashkar-e-Thoiba on Sunday. In the alleged letter, Lashker-e-Thoiba warned that they would even attack Begum Bazaar. It claimed that they had triggered blasts in Dilsuknagar the other day.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Kishan Reddy said the letter might be the handiwork of mischievous elements. But, as a precautionary measure, he lodged a complaint with the Abids Police and handed over tthe letter to the Police. The Abids Police has registered a case and began inquiring.

Don’t conclude Muslims behind city blasts: Muslim front

SC, ST, BC, Muslim Front has demanded that the State government impose restrictions on the electronic and print media for guessing that only Muslim youth might be behind the twin bomb blasts at Dilsukhnagar on February 21. It appealed to the government to ensure all services and payment of ex gratia for every injured and bereaved families of the deceased.

Ishrat Jahan encounter: Gujarat IPS officer Singhal arrested by CBI

CBI has arrested Gujarat Police officer G L Singhal in connection with the alleged fake encounter of 19-year old student Ishrat Jahan by a team of Ahmedabad crime branch officers in 2004.
CBI sources here said Singhal, an inducted IPS officer, who was then Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Branch, was arrested by the agency in Ahmedabad and searches are going on at his residential and official premises.

Bangalore court summons Akbar Owaisi in hate speech case

The Bangalore Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has issued summons to MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in a hate speech case. The Banjara Hills police on receiving directions from the Bangalore court this afternoon served summons to the recently released MLA of MIM and asked him to appear on 23 February.

According to the sources the Bangalore court has taken cognizance of a complaint filed in CC No.1433/13 with Cr.No. 203/13 Under sections 153,153(A),298 and 500 IPC against Akbar Owaisi.

The Sub-Inspector Banjara Hills Syed Nayeemullah served the summons.

TDP MLA Jjoins Jagan party

Sai Raj, TDP MLA of Ichapuram in Srikakulam district, on Wednesday joined the YSR Congress party in the presence of honorary president Y S Vijayamma at the party office.

It may be mentioned here that Sai Raj, the lone MLA of TDP in Srikakulam district, announced his intention to join the YSRCP stating that he got vexed with the ‘Ts politics.

TRS complaints to Home Minister against police

TRS legislators called on Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum alleging harassment of the people in Mahabubnagar in connection with the proposed “sadak bandh” programme in the district.

The TRS legislators alleged that the police were binding over the local people in the town and also subjecting them to harassment. The Home Minister assured the TRS delegation that she would look into the matter and also discuss the issue with the Chief Minister regarding the proposed “sadak bandh” program.

Wakf Bill likely to come before Cabinet on Thursday

A bill to bring effective changes in the management of Wakf properties across the country is likely to come up before the Union Cabinet on Thursday.

The draft amendment Bill, 2010 to bring amendments in the Wakf Act, 1995, carries proposals to strengthen Wakf institutions and streamline their functioning with an eye on addressing the problem of rampant encroachment of Wakf properties in the country.

Doctor arrested in human trafficking case

A city-based gynaecologist, who withdrew his anticipatory bail plea from the Gujarat High Court yesterday, was today arrested by the city Crime Branch for alleged human trafficking, police said.

“We arrested Dr Bharat Atit today afternoon. We will produce him in the court tomorrow and seek police remand for interrogation to gather more evidence in the case,” said inspector B M Desai, who is the investigating officer in the case.

Naidu allegations baseless: YSRCP

As there is no let-up in levelling baseless allegations by the Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu against YSR family members, the option of filing defamation case is being actively considered.

“Without verifying facts TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu has been leveling baseless allegations against Brother Anil Kumar on a regular basis and he told us that he is contemplating to move court,” YSR Congress senior leaders DA Somayajulu and Janak Prasad told reporters here on Tuesday.

ASSOCHAM asks unions to call off strike

While sharing some of their concerns like rising prices, ASSOCHAM on Tuesday appealed to the central trade unions to call off their two-day strike as the country’s economy will take a hit of big hit of Rs 15,000-20,000 crore from the nation-wide disruption in economic activity.

“The national economy, battling slowdown can ill-afford this situation. In fact, the strike would aggravate the price situation because of disruption in the supply line of essential commodities”, said Rajkumar Dhoot President ASSOCHAM.

Local body polls may be conducted on party symbol

After getting Supreme Court’s nod, the State Government is gearing up to conduct the local body elections at the earliest. However, this time the elections may be conducted on party lines.

Talking to reporters here, Labour Minister Danam Nagender said that the proposal to conduct the local bodies elections was being studied and a decision would be taken soon after consulting the experts.

TPJAC firm on Sadak Bandh on Feb 24

Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Tuesday announced that the Sadak Bandh would be organised as proposed on February 24.

Talking to reporters here, Kodandaram alleged that the State Government, while using police, has been making attempts to sabotage the proposed protest. However, he said that the TPJAC would go ahead with the Sadak Bandh programme despite all obstacles. He also assured that the Sadak Bandh programme would be totally peaceful.

TRS bus yatra to Mahboobnagar today

Senior TRS leader and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao has said his party would take out a Bus Yatra with 20 legislators to Mahbubnagar to make Wednesday’s “Sadak Bandh” a total success.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Harish Rao warned that the Chief Minister would be held responsible for the consequences if his government filed cases against the agitators on account of the Bandh. He also made it clear that it would be the collective responsibility of the Telangana ministers to ensure that no cases are registered against the agitators.

CM announces Rs.2 lakhs to flood victims families

The Chief Minister Mr. N Kiran Kumar Reddy today announced that Rs.2 lakhs (Rs.1.5 lakhs immediately and Rs.50,000 under Aapatbandhu) will be paid to the next of kin of those died in the unseasonal heavy rains and hailstorm which lashed some of the districts in the State for the last two days.

He also said that compensation as per norms and houses under IAY will be provided to those who lost their houses. The Chief Minister instructed officials for time-bound, accurate and immediate enumeration of losses.

Assad says confident of winning Syria war

President Bashar al-Assad said he is confident his troops will win the conflict ravaging Syria, as new calls were made today for the International Criminal Court to launch a probe into war crimes.

Assad’s comments, published in Lebanon’s pro-Damascus newspaper As-Safir, came as his forces were fighting pitched battles with rebels in a string of flashpoint towns and cities, and for control of strategic airports in northern Syria.

Pakistan Shias refuse to bury bomb victims’ bodies, demand protection from Sunni militants

Thousands of Pakistani Shias furious over a sectarian bombing that killed 89 people protested on Monday, demanding that security forces protect them from hardline Sunni groups.

The attack, near a street market in the southwestern city of Quetta on Saturday, highlighted the government’s failure to crack down on militancy in nuclear-armed Pakistan just a few months before a general election is due.

The death toll climbed to 89 on Monday, said provincial health secretary Nasibullah Bazai.
