Major fire at a GAIL gas pipeline; no causalities

A major fire broke out at GAIL’s natural gas pipeline in South Delhi’s Satyaniketan area after it was perforated by civic construction contractors but there were no casualties reported.

The fire at the pipeline near Venkateshwara College in South Delhi has been brought under control, said B C Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL India Ltd, the state gas utility which owns the pipeline.

HC ruled out the authority of CEO of State Wakf board

City police here on Thursday nabbed two rowdy sheeters and three chain snatcher in kalapather.

According to police Shaik Obaid 24 and Mohd Asad23 was nabbed, who are the associates of the Kaiser gang.

Cases were registered against them for attempting murder, mischief, hurts and jwellry snacthing from women. They found to be involved in 11 cases.

Three chain snatcher Mohd Ahmed 24, Pulligala laxman 45 and Mohd alias choto were also detained by Kala pather police, and a case have been registered.

AP IAS officer HS Brahma may be the next CEC

Government may be all set to appoint Election Commissioner HS Brahma as the next Chief Election Commissioner in place of VS Sampath who demits office on Thursday.

If Brahma is elevated, then it will be in keeping with the convention of elevating the senior-most Election Commissioner as the CEC, a recommendation the Law Ministry had made to the government.

Once it is cleared by the Prime Minister, the proposal goes to the President, who appoints the CEC as required under the Constitution.

Near zero inflation in December raises rate cut demands

Declining prices of global crude oil kept the inflation rate at near zero level in December, raising the clamour for interest rate cut by RBI to boost domestic manufacturing and spur economic growth.

Wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation moved up marginally in December to 0.11 per cent from zero level in November, reversing the six month declining trend.

The slight increase in inflation rate was due to spurt in ‘food items’ basket.

Police arrested MJ Kusuma Kumari (40), wife of the deceased as the main conspirator along with her partner Lanka Naresh Kumar(26) a student, Voriganti Balraj (24), Poosala Raju (22) and Shaik Ghouse(30) of Mallapur.

According to police last year on December 27, body of 41-year-old Marishetty Susheel Chakravarthy was found in a highly decomposed manner on the premises of his residence in Gandhinagar.

CBI Chief Sinha is in hole

After the Supreme court has ousted the CBI Chief Sinha from 2G scam, Sinha is in more trouble as the Supreme Court, on Monday, agreed to hear a plea requesting a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the allegations of interference and scuttling of investigation against him.

The court’s directive came on a plea by lawyer Prashant Bhushan, whom calimed that Ranjit Sinha frequently met top executives of a company being tried in the 2G case allegedly operating on their behalf at his official residence. He demanded Sinha be removed from supervising the probe.
