Nizam’s Sirpur Paper Mills may face closure

Sirpur Paper Mills Limited at Kagaznagar town is one of the oldest mills in the country, is on the verge of closure. The production has stopped since November, 2014.

The SPM was established in 1936 by the Nizam of Hyderabad and production of paper started in 1942. In the 1950s, it was purchased by the C.K. Birla group and later transferred to the Poddars.

India’s air passenger traffic grows by 8%

Air passenger traffic in India saw an eight per cent growth last year compared to 2013, the highest after China and Russia, even as global traffic rose by 5.9 per cent, according to data released by International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Also, the passenger carrying capacity in India rose by 5.7 per cent in 2014 with a 76.3 per cent load factor or capacity utilisation.

Bangladesh Cautions to Crack Whip on Protesters

Bangladesh government has warned protesters of stern legal actions like the death penalty under the anti-terrorism law if they continue with the violence that has claimed 66 lives in the ongoing political unrest.

In a statement issued by the Press Information Department last night, the government warned of stern legal actions like the death penalty under the anti-terrorism law against “saboteurs”.

“Such activities are liable to stringent punishment, according to the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009,” it said, referring to the deaths and grievous injuries caused by arson attacks.

Karnataka HC Rejects Togadia’s Plea to Enter Bengaluru

The Karnataka High Court Friday dismissed the interim prayer of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia to stay the police ban on his entry into this city to attend a religious convention Feb 8.

Upholding the ban order imposed by city Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi on Togadia Tuesday, Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, however, observed that his petition was maintainable and he had the right to appeal in a higher court for relief.

The nine-day Army Recruitment Rally that began at the Prakasam Stadium at Kothagudem in Khammam district on Wednesday shows a very good response from youths across the 10 districts of the State, especially youths from rural areas showing a great enthusiasm, says an officer.

The test was conducted for the recruitment of Soldiers, Tech/Nursing. Almost 2,630 young men on Thursday have gone through the certificate and height verification successfully, and took the running test.

City Police on Thursday arrested two “Newspaper vendors Sharif Ahamad Shaikh (60) and Salman Kalam Shaikh (20) for selling an Urdu daily, which had reprinted the cover of French magazine Charlie Hebdo with the cartoon of Prophet Muhammad.”

According to police they have been booked under IPC sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

Waiving of Property Tax on Card

Apparently with an eye on GHMC polls, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday disclosed his government’s plan to waive property tax on residential properties to help the poor and middle class home owners in the twin cities.

If KCR Govt go ahead with its decision, 80-90% of residential property owners in the GHMC limits may be exempted from paying property tax. Officials of the civic body submitted property tax details to KCR a few days ago.

India urged to protect transgender people

Indian authorities should fully enforce a Supreme Court ruling to protect the rights of transgender people and help end discrimination and abuse, Human Rights Watch said on Friday.

They should also credibly investigate several recent incidents in which police allegedly abused transgender people, the US-based body said in a statement.

In April 2014, the Supreme Court ruled that transgender people should be recognised as a third gender and not only enjoy all fundamental rights but also receive special benefits in education and jobs.

Govt will make no unfair effort to collect taxes, Jaitley says

Government will not make any unfair effort to collect taxes, finance minister Arun Jaitley said on Friday.

Arun Jaitley also hinted at more spending cuts and rationalizing of expenditure.

He said power, energy, railway and ports are high-priority sectors for the government.

Arun Jaitley also hinted at the need to increase level of public spending for development of infrastructure.

Free eamcet coaching for ST students: ST devalopement Minister

In a decision that could give a major relief to tribal students, the state government is all set to provide free Eamcet coaching in ST welfare hostels.

This apart, the government is also proposing to facilitate coaching for tribal students to appear for national-level entrance examinations.

‘’For those who are staying in hostels and studying Intermediate, the government will provide Eamcet coaching, as they are not able to get good ranks in Eamcet, and dropping out of welfare hostels,” Ajmera Chandulal ST development minister said on Thursday.

VAT on petrol and diesel increases to 35.20, 27 per cent.

Telangana people got an ultimate shock from KCR for the very first time. The state government on Thursday increased the VAT on petrol from the existing 31 per cent to 35.20 per cent and on diesel VAT has been increased from the present 22.25 per cent to 27 per cent.

Continuous decrease in prices of petrol and diesel is causing worry to the state government. So in order to keep its tax revenue intact, the state government has decided to increase VAT on petrol and diesel.

NIA arrests one more in Burdwan blast case

NIA has arrested a close aide of suspected Burdwan blast mastermind Sheikh Rehmatullah alias Sajjid for allegedly running a recruitment camp for Jamaat-ul- Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror outfit from a madrassa in Murshidabad, taking the number of arrests in the case to 17.

The person identified as Mufazzil Haque was arrested from Mokimnagar area of the district bordering Bangladesh last night, official sources said.

Sensex down 117 points to slip below 29,000

Extending losses for the fourth straight day, the benchmark BSE sensex on Wednesday fell over 117 points to slip below the 29,000-mark after nearly two weeks as funds and retail investors indulged in profit-booking amid mixed global cues.

After surging to 29,133.62 points at the outset on emergence of buying, the sensex fell and touched the day’s low of 28,824.68 before ending 117.03 points, or 0.40 per cent, lower at 28,883.11.

Major losers that pulled down the sensex and Nifty were Axis bank, BHEL, SBI, L&T, Tata Motors, TCS, Maruti, Hindustan Unilver, RIL, and Bharti Airtel.

RIL hits overseas debt market again, may raise $1 billion

Reliance Industries has hit the forex debt market second time in as many weeks to raise about $1 billion in a benchmark 30-year dollar-money note sale to international investors.

On January 22, the company had raised $1 billion by selling 10-year bonds at an interest rate of 4.125 per cent, which the company claimed was the lowest in Asia and with almost no new-issue premium. In 2014, the company had raised over $3.3 billion in forex debt.

Police in search of Chain-snatcher who flee from Custody

A notorious chain-snatcher Aqueeluddin alias Khalifa, who escaped from police custody at Kothapet, the 21-year-old, was allegedly involved in about 150 cases of chain-snatching. He was arrested at least three times by Hyderabad and Cyberabad police.

According to the police, Aqueeluddin was taken on a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant from Cherlapally Central Prison to Ranga Reddy district courts at L.B. Nagar by L.B. Nagar police in a case of chain-snatching. After producing him before the court, two constables Shehkar and Upendar were taking him back to the prison, the police said.

IIIT Basara student hang herself, blamed lecturer

Bagli Swapna (18),a 2nd year student at IIIT Basara, Adilabad, committed suicide by hanging herself at Usirakapally village of Manur mandal in Medak on Tuesday. Police found a suicide letter from her room, in which she alleged that mental harassment by her lecturer, Vijayabhanu, had forced her to take the extreme step.

Challenge Jaitley to jail me if I’ve done anything wrong, says Kejriwal

Jordan to revenge pilot’s killing by hanging IS militant Rishawi

Seeking quick revenge for the killing of a Jordanian hostage by the Islamic State (IS), Amman is set to execute an IS militant on death row over a failed bombing.

A security official said that the death sentence pending on Iraqi militant Sajida al-Rishawi will be carried out at dawn, reported News 24.

Rishawi, was sentenced to death for her role in a terror attack in Amman in 2005. The IS had offered to spare the life of Jordanian fighter pilot, Lieutenant Maaz al-Kassasbeh , if she was freed.

Indo-Bangla border talks begin in Agartala

A district magistrate-cum-collector level joint border conference between India and Bangladesh was held here on Tuesday

India was represented at the talks by officials of the Tripura Government, while Bangladesh was represented by a team of deputy commissioners-cum-magistrates, and was held at the state guest house here.

The two-day conference discussed issues such as ways to tackle smuggling, trans-border crime, insurgent movements, narcotics, human trafficking and improving border management between the two countries.
