Hazare to address farmers in Delhi

Gandhian Anna Hazare will address in Delhi Feb 24 a rally of farmers opposed to the Land Acquisition Bill introduced by the central government, an aide said on Thursday.

The rally will see the participation of representatives of around 70 organisations across India along with social activist Medha Patkar.

In his first major mass programme in over a year, Hazare is expected to speak against the land bill which is being opposed by farmers.

HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons set on fire a flexi-board near the dais this morning at Hanamkonda in Telangana’s Warangal district where Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to address the TDP workers later today, police said.

The backside area of the dais where Naidu is scheduled to address the party leaders and workers at Hygrivachari grounds was partially burnt in the incident, Hanamkonda DSP Sobhan Kumar said, adding, they have registered a suo-motu case in this connection.

Odisha: Girls Leave Hostel Accusing School Official of Taking Nude Pictures

About 60 students of a government-run girls’ school have left hostel en masse after they came to know that the school’s accountant allegedly clicked their nude pictures with the help of the hostel cook at Gudiali in Ganjam district, officials said today.

The accountant of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (BGVB) clicked the photographs when the students were on a picnic last year. At least 22 nude and semi nude photographs were recovered from his possession, they said.

Headmistress T Arnnapurna Patra informed the DPC about it. The fact came to fore recently.

NASA Launches Deep Space Solar Monitoring Satellite

The US space agency has launched a new mission called the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) to monitor solar activity in deep space.

Launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, DSCOVR will provide space weather forecasters from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) more reliable measurements of solar wind conditions, improving their ability to monitor potentially harmful solar activity.

Telangana faces 27 fresh cases of swine flu

Twenty seven fresh cases of swine flu have been reported in Telangana on Wednesday.

According to sources “In the current year, from January 1 till February 10, 2,751 samples have been tested out of which 903 found to be positive and number of deaths because of other complications and swine flu are 42.” It said 92 samples were tested on Tuesday and 27 have been found to be positive for the virus.

Foggy morning in Delhi, 10 trains delayed

There was light fog in the morning here on Thursday, delaying 10 trains, an official said.

“There was shallow fog in the morning and the visibility at 8.30 a.m. was 700 metres,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

According to Northern Railway, 10 trains coming to the city were delayed.

The weatherman said the sky will be clear in the day.

The day’s minimum temperature settled at a notch below the season’s average at 8.7 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature would hover around 25 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

2 Sydney Men Charged With Plotting Terrorist Act to Face Court

Two Sydney men charged with plotting a terrorist attack are expected to face court via video link today.

The two accused – Omar Al-Kutobi, 24, from Iraq and Mohammad Kiad, 25, from Kuwait – were arrested in a raid carried out by the New South Wales Police at a house in the western Sydney suburb of Fairfield on Tuesday, following a tip-off that they were planning an attack.

Their case was to be heard yesterday but it was cut short due to security concern and nature of charges, media reports said.

Cannabis use could lead to mania symptoms

Cannabis use is linked to the onset and exacerbation of mania symptoms, finds a study.

Mania symptoms are part of bipolar disorder and can include feelings of persistent elation, heightened energy and hyperactivity and a reduced need for sleep.

The researchers looked at a number of previous studies and concluded that cannabis use preceded the onset of mania symptoms.

30-minute nap can reverse effects of poor sleep

A short nap for half an hour can help relieve stress and bolster the immune systems weakened by poor sleep – as little as two hours – the previous night, says a study.

“Our data suggests a 30-minute nap can reverse the hormonal impact of a night of poor sleep,” said one of the study authors Brice Faraut from the Paris Descartes University in France.

“This is the first study that found napping could restore biomarkers of neuroendocrine and immune health to normal levels,” Faraut added.

200 students fall sick after consuming iron tablets

About 200 students fall ill after they consumed iron (folic acid) tablets on Tuesday. According to sources students from Zilla Parishad High School in Dharmaram village complained stomach pain, loose motions and vomiting. By evening, majority students showed the same symptoms while some fell unconscious due to loss of body fluids.

As many as 80 students were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) here, said Regional Director (Medical and Health) Nageshwar Rao. Remaining students were given treatment as outpatients and were discharged.

Godrej Industries Q3 net profit rises 38.96% to Rs 90.65 crore

Godrej Industries on Wednesday reported 38.96 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 90.65 crore for the quarter ended December 2014.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 65.23 crore for the corresponding period of last fiscal, Godrej Industries said in a BSE filing.

Net sales of the company rose to Rs 2,236.56 crore in the quarter under review, up 14.09 per cent from Rs 1,960.23 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Lorry rammed into auto, killed 6

In a ghastly road accident, as many as six persons were killed in a lorry and autorickshaw head-on collision near Kandi village in sangareddy mandal on tuesday. Four others have also been injured in the incident.

While four persons died on spot, two others died while undergoing treatment at Khanapur government hospital.

The deceased have been identified as B Naveen kumar (28), Nerupa Shailaja(35), of pulkal mandal, Yadamma(25), of Bandlaguda and parakash goud of sadasevapet. The identification of others were not known.

CCS Inspector suspended for misconduct

City Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy on Tuesday suspended Central Crime Station Inspector Vijay Singh, working as Inspector of Police in CCS Hyderabad City for his misconduct while investigating two cases of alleged cheating and rape relating to incidents that were reported to have occurred between 1998 and 2004 but cases registered during October 2014 and December 2014 respectively based on the complaints received.

TCS to Stick to Hiring Target from Campuses for FY16: CEO

Country’s largest IT services firm TCS today said it is sticking to its hiring target of 35,000 from campuses for FY16.

“We’ll stick to hiring plans, no change,” its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director N Chandrasekaran told reporters on the sidelines of the annual Nasscom India Leadership Forum 2015 here.

Notably, in October last year, the Tata Group company had announced that it will hire 35,000 freshers from tech schools in FY16, up from the 25,000 hirings done in FY15.

Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University will take separate admissions for AP and TS

The Potti Sriramulu Telugu University common to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, is likely to conduct separate entrance tests for admissions from the next academic year.

The authorities have already started preparations for conducting separate admissions and sought approval from the governor and the education ministers of both the states, said K.Thomasaiah, registrar of the university.

The university, which functions from the Hyderabad campus, has four more campuses in the two states, three in AP one in Telangana.
