The vicious act of a contractor, which claimed the life of an infant in Medak district, compelled the Lok Ayukta to come into action on Monday.

The bizarre incident, which took place at Turkala Khanapur village of Hathnoora Mandal on January 7, came to light only on Sunday.

According to sources the contractor hired the labourers from Kakarlapadu village of Nawabpet mandal to work in a chemical factory. Among the labourers was Malleswari, the mother of the six-month-old baby boy.

In a shocking incident, a civil contractor locked up a classroom forcing the little children to study in a verandah of a government primary school at Repaka village in Karimnagar district. The contractor took the extreme step as he was not paid for his work.

According to sources Itukuri Balaiah bagged the contract for Rs 2 lakh for construction of additional classroom on the school premises as part of National Programme for Education of Girls for Elementary Level (NPEGEL) in 2009, but he did not get paid after completion of the work.

Doordarshan to Continue Telecasting Cricket WC Matches

Cricket fans across the country will continue to view the World Cup matches involving India on public broadcaster Doordarshan’s national channel as the Supreme Court Tuesday extended its interim order for telecast of the matches on the channel.

The court also asked Prasar Bharati to respond to Star TV’s suggestion to create a separate channel to carry the live feed of cricket matches provided by it.

The court earlier stayed the Delhi High Court order that barred Doordarshan from sharing the live feed of the Cup matches with the cable operators, provided to it by Star TV, Feb 10.

Three Killed in Blast in Lahore

At least three people were killed and several injured in a blast in Pakistan’s Lahore city Tuesday, a media report said.

It occurred near the main gate of Police Lines in the city’s Gujjar Singh area, Dawn reported. Several vehicles parked near the blast site caught fire and window panes in nearby buildings were also shattered.

Witnesses said gunshots were heard from inside the Police Lines. However, security personnel said that the shots were only fired by members of the law enforcement agencies after the blast.

Iraqi troops in Anbar may ‘collapse within hours,’ says tribal leader

The Iraqi army is likely to lose ground in Anbar province and ‘collapse within hours’ as the Islamic State (IS) militants try to fight their way in, said an Iraqi tribal leader.

According to CNN, Sheikh Naim al-Gaoud, a Sunni Muslim leader of the Albu Nimr tribe, called for more US intervention-including ground troops, arming tribes directly or at least pressuring the Iraqi government to give the tribes more firepower.

He said that the thousands of families were trapped in the town of Jubbat al-Shamiya until they received help Friday from US-led coalition airstrikes and Iraqi forces.

Government aims to double renewable energy share in overall basket

Eyeing investments of up to USD 200 billion, the government is looking to more than double the share of renewable sources to over 15 per cent in the country’s overall energy basket in about a decade, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said today.

Dawood’s man involved in 1993 Mumbai blasts arrested

A “D Company” sharpshooter wanted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts that killed more than 250 people has been arrested in Goa, police said Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap said Sham Kishor Garikapatti alias `Black Scorpion`, 50, worked for the Dawood Ibrahim gang and was jailed for harbouring terrorists.

“We arrested him from Saligao, a village 10 km north of Panaji, where he was living in a rented room for nearly eight years,” Kashyap said, adding the arrest followed a tip off from an informant.
