Explosive material recovered from a stream in Kashmir

Police have recovered explosive material, including four detonators from a stream in Katra belt of Reasi district here.

Four detonators, six gelatin sticks and some wires were recovered yesterday from Painthal nullah (stream) in Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), a police officer said.

The official noted that the explosives might have been used by a nearby mining factory in the area and washed away in the stream.

2 Policemen Injured in Bomb Blast by Naxals During Combing Operations in Chhattisgarh

Two policemen were injured in a pressure bomb blast triggered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district today, police said.

“The blast occurred near Emargunda village when the security personnel were carrying out a combing operation in the Gangaloor police station limits,” a senior police official told the Press Trust of India (PTI).

“The security personnel accidentally came in contact with a pressure bomb planted by Maoists outside the village. In the explosion, head constable Rajesh Sen and assistant constable Asharam Netam sustained injuries,” he told PTI.

Wife killed, husband injured in road mishap

A 42-year-old woman was killed and her husband got injured when the motorcycle they were travelling on got hit by a trolley, police said here today.

The deceased, identified as Sitapati, was killed when the motorcycle was hit by the trolley near Sadar area last evening, they said.

The woman’s husband, Asharfilal, was injured in the accident and has been admitted to the hospital, police said.

Malaysia Detains Teen Girl Trying to Join IS

Police have detained a 14-year-old girl suspected of trying to join the Islamic State (IS) terror group, the authorities said Thursday.

The girl, who is from Muar, was arrested before she could board a Cairo-bound flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, The Malaysian Star reported.

A woman travelling with her one-year-old son has been arrested in London’s Heathrow Airport on suspicion of terrorism offences, a media report said Thursday.

Tareena Shakil, 25, was held on suspicion of terrorist offences connected with a trip to Syria, Mirror.co.uk reported.

She had reportedly travelled to the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa in northern Syria from where she was said to have later made a dramatic escape to Turkey having refused to enter into a forced marriage.

Sebi slaps Rs 18 lakh fine on 8 companies

Market regulator Sebi has slapped a total fine of Rs 18 lakh on eight companies for failing to obtain registration with its online complaint system as well as not resolving pending investor grievances within the required timeline.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) through separate orders imposed penalty of Rs 4 lakh each on Asian Alloys and Mideast (India) Ltd and Rs 3 lakh fine each on Western Foods and B P Alloys.

It imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on four companies — Nijjer Agro Foods, Harpartap Steels, Arihant Threads and R S Petro Chemicals.

Over 4 kg gold seized from women passengers at Hyderabad airport

Customs officials seized over 4 kg gold worth Rs 1.10 crore from four women passengers in two separate cases at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday as they allegedly tried to smuggle the precious metal.

In the first case, officials seized 3.32 kg gold bars worth Rs 92 lakh from three women passengers who arrived at the airport from a flight from Dubai, while 800 gram gold bars worth Rs 22 lakh was seized from another woman passenger who arrived by a flight from Bangkok, a Customs official said.

In both the cases, gold bars were hidden in inner garments, he said.

Coal scam: Koda granted bail on personal bond of Rs. one lakh

Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, who is one of the accused in the coal scam, has been granted bail by a special court on a personal bond of Rs. one lakh and on the condition that he would not leave the country.

The court’s decision came even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed the bail plea, accusing Koda and seven others of conspiring and abusing their positions to favour the allocation of coal blocks.

Koda along with former Jharkhand chief secretary Ashok Kumar Basu and six others had been chargesheeted by the CBI in connection with the scam.
