JD (U) slams Baba Ramdev over his male child promising drug

Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi said on Friday that he had a problem with yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s contention that he had a drug that guarantees the birth of a male child. He said he would not have had a problem had Ramdev said that he had a drug to produce children of any gender.

Lauding the NDA Government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, Tyagi said, “I praise the Prime Minister’s efforts, but on the other hand, this medicine by Baba Ramdev is called ‘Putrajeevak Beej’ and I have a problem with that.”

Pakistan has no business interfering in India’s internal affairs: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Sambit Patra on Friday said Pakistan has no business interfering in India’s internal affairs.

“Pakistan has no business interfering in the internal affairs of India. And moreover, Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, and Sikhs form an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir’s demography,” said Patra told ANI.

Aslam had earlier said that any effort to create special townships in Jammu and Kashmir would violate the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and added that the people of the state are resisting such change.

Sikh group lauds USCIRF for recognising violation against them

A Sikh rights group has commended a US Congress-established panel for recognising “violations against Sikhs” in its annual report on religious freedom.

“Sikhs are often harassed and pressured to reject religious practices and beliefs that are distinct to Sikhism, such as dress, unshorn hair, and the carrying of religious items, including the kirpan,” the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in its report for 2015.

Dinosaur with Bat-like Wings Found in China

Close on the heels of the discovery of T Rex’s “bizarre” cousin, scientists have now found a dinosaur with bat-like wings.

The fossils, discovered by a farmer in his field in the Qinglang county of Hebei province in China, will help to shed new light on the evolution of flight, scientists said.

Paleontologists in China said the impeccably preserved fossil belongs to a small dinosaur thought to have lived 160 million years ago.

NIA Court Convicts 13 Persons inchopping off professor’s hand

A special NIA court here today convicted 13 people, owing allegiance to a radical Islamic outfit, in the the sensational hand chopping case of a college professor in Kerala in 2010 while acquitting 18 other accused.

Ten of the 13 have been have been found guilty under various sections of the central law dealing with terror—the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The court, which posted the matter to May 5, is likely to pronounce the quantum of punishment on the same day after hearing.

Gold smuggling on rise at RGIA

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has seen a surge in gold smuggling and in a majority of cases, the smuggler is only a carrier sent by a syndicate, customs officials said here today.

During the last financial year 2014-15, attempts were made to smuggle 127.67 kg of gold valued at Rs 31.98 crore through the Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad here wherein 125 cases of gold smuggling were registered and 40 persons arrested for smuggling of gold, a release issued here by the office of the Assistance Commissioner of Customs (RGIA Hyderabad) said.

Opposition targets Ramdev over ayurveda product ‘promising male child’

Opposition members in Rajya Sabha on Thursday sought a ban on a purported ayurveda product by yoga guru Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy that promises a male child.

Calling the product illegal and unconstitutional, the opposition members sought stringent action against the manufacturers.

When the House met for the day, KC Tyagi of JD(U) showed a packet called ‘Putrajeevak Beej’, which he claimed to have bought from Divya Pharmacy that promised the delivery of a male child.

Transport strike begins; impact seen in various states

The 24-hour transport strike began today, affecting normal life in several parts of the country including in Kerala and Karnataka, even as the Centre asked private operators and employees of state transport authorities to call off their strike.

In Kerala, public transport buses, taxis and auto- rickshaws were off the roads, although private vehicles were plying.

Researchers, including one of Indian-origin, have created an enzyme that could transform all donated blood into a universal type that can be given to any patient.

Sometimes when a patient needs a blood transfusion their blood type is not in the blood bank. It is a problem that scientists have been trying to solve for years but have not been able to find an economic solution – until now.

University of British Columbia chemists and scientists in the Centre for Blood Research have created an enzyme that could potentially solve this problem.

Pak court sentences four to 25 years for attack on Malala

Ten Pakistani Taliban militants were today sentenced to 25 years in jail by an anti-terrorism court for their 2012 gun attack on Malala Yousafzai, the teenage child rights activist who last year won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The ATC in Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province announced the judgment after trial of the accused, finding ten guilty and handing down 25 years imprisonment to each of them, a district official from Swat said.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants had claimed responsibility of the attack on Malala in October 2012.

SHE TEAM nabbed two youths for eve teasing

SHE TEAM on Wednesday has nabbed two persons for eve-teasing and stalking women in public places. The duo was found harassing and making gestures at a woman travelling in a car at Punjagutta crossroad.

The accused are identified as Imran Bin Mohammad, 30, a businessman and a resident of Shalibanda and Syed Norulla Hussaini, 29, a daily wage earner of Bahadurpura.

The woman snapped the act and posted on SHE Teams Facebook. The team came into action and traced the accused using the photographs and bike details and arrested them.

Insurance drive to rein Motorist from May 6 to 15

For an on-the-spot insurance drive in the city, the Cyberabad police and insurance officials armed with a database of uninsured vehicles are going to hit the roads between May 1 and 15.

According to an official about 100 counters will be set up in Cyberabad limits, where vehicle owners can get their vehicle insured instantly.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA) and Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) are teaming up with the Cyberabad police for the motor vehicles insurance awareness campaign launched in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Fire broke out in a godown at Jeedemetla

A major fire broke out at a rubber godown in Jeedimetla, around 5.15 pm on Wednesday evening, resulting in loss of property worth lakhs of rupees. Four fire tenders from Jeedimetla, Secunderabad, Kukatpally and Assembly were rushed to the spot and doused the flames after four hours of hard work.

Thick smoke billowed from the godown and it continued to erupt from the godown for about two hours.The cause and extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained, fire officials maintained

Two policemen among nine robbed in Rajasthan

Nine persons, including two policemen were allegedly robbed by armed miscreants in the district while returning from Uttar Pradesh after recovering two girls who had gone missing, police said today.

The incident occurred in the wee hours yesterday near Hantra village where 7-8 robbers stopped the vehicle of the victims and robbed them of their valuables. They tied their hands before leaving the place, they said.

HMDA to filled vacancies soon

Within a few days of taking charge, Commissioner Shalini Mishra Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), had terminated services of 170 outsourced employees and 77 officials on deputation resulted in arising of fresh vacancies.

Official sources in HMDA informed that the metropolitan commissioner had inspected each department and prepared a preliminary report on the strength required for the smooth functioning of each unit. She has written letters to several HoDs asking them send surplus staff to HMDA,” he said.

KCR to build 2 lakh houses for poor

After reviewing the ‘Intensive Household Survey’ conducted by the state government last year, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday said his government would build houses for two lakh poor in the city who are shelter less and don’t have houses of their own.

KCR, who held a review meeting with officials of the housing department in Hyderabad, said the government’s prime aim is to ensure that not even a single poor man remains in Hyderabad without housing, according to a release from his office.

Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway closes due to heavy landslide

The Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway has been closed due to a heavy landslide at Vishnu Prayag.

According to reports, the landslide has blocked the road to the Badrinath shrine.

The annual pilgrimage to four sacred shrines of the ‘Char Dham’, the four abodes, began earlier this month.

The popular pilgrimage route is known as the ‘Char Dham Yatra’ because of its four temple towns of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Rahul Gandhi likely to visit Telangana next month over farmer suicides issue

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Telangana next month to meet families of farmers who allegedly committed suicide, a senior party leader from the state said on Tuesday.

Gandhi’s visit is likely to take place either in the second or third week of May, Telangana Congress Committee Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka told PTI here.

He said the 44-year-old Amethi MP would console the families of farmers who allegedly ended their lives apparently due to agrarian distress.

TAPI gas pipeline construction to take 5 yrs: Afghan Prez

The construction of the USD 10-billion TAPI gas pipeline project will be completed in the next five years, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani said today.

Ghani also invited the Indian industry to invest in production of fertilisers and chemicals by tapping the natural gas from Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

The ambitious Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline was expected to be operational in 2018.

“I do want to put it on record that even after a week of the party’s announcement of our expulsion, I have yet not received any expulsion order,” said Yadav.

“In the media there is a press release, which announces it. I haven’t received any communication which says I have been expelled, which gives reasons or even says it’s the National Disciplinary Committee’s order,” he added.

500-year-old Kathmandu temple turned to rubble after earthquake

The devastating earthquake that struck the Nepalese capital has turned the 500-year-old Kashtamandap temple to rubble, killing several under the debris of the historic structure from which the city derives its name.

Incidentally, on the fateful day, a private company had organised a blood donation camp and most of the donors including the nurses are dead.
