There shall be no discrimination in providing health and life insurances to HIV positive people and it should “preferably” at regular rate of premium, a standing committee of Rajya Sabha has said in a report on a bill to stop discrimination against those suffering from HIV/AIDS.

Australian teenager charged with terror plot

A 17-year-old Australian boy was charged with terror offences following a raid by police at his home in Melbourne, media reported on Saturday.

The teenager was charged after Victoria Police and Australian Federal Police personnel launched raids in Melbourne on Friday afternoon, swooping on a house where explosives were found and taken away to be detonated in a nearby park, Sky News Australia reported.

“It will be alleged the teenager was undertaking preparations for planning a terrorist act in Australia,” a police official said on Saturday.

Bank account must to avail Aasra pension

Now in order to avail pension all the beneficiaries of Aasara pensions will have to open a bank account from June onward. Hyderabad district administration has decided to distribute Aasara pensions though bank accounts instead of handing over personally.

District collector K Nirmala directed officials to ensure that all the beneficiaries open bank accounts. She also directed district lead bank managers to make sure that all banks provide facility to open zero balance accounts for Aasara beneficiaries.

Rahul Gandhi postpones Telangana ‘padyatra’ due to extended Lok Sabha session

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi`s scheduled `padyatra` in Telangana has been postponed for May 15 due to the extension of the Lok Sabha session till May 13.

“Due to extension of LS session till 13th May,Rahul Gandhi`s Padyatra in Telangana will now happen on 15th May,” Rahul Gandhi`s office tweeted.

The Congress vice president was to undertake the 15 kilometre yatra on May 12, beginning from Telangana`s Adilabad District and covering five villages.

Last month, Rahul undertook a day-long `kisan padyatra` from Amravati to highlight the farmers` woes.

Case against Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim for ‘abducting’ a woman

A case was registered on Friday against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his two aides for allegedly abducting a woman who had gone to his Sirsa ashram to attend the satsang.

The case was registered with Jawahar circle police station following a local court direction on a complaint made by the woman’s husband Kamlesh Kumar on Thursday.

Kumar said in the complaint that his wife Guddi Devi (25), was in touch with the Dera’s managing director DPS Datta for few days and Datta was inviting her to attend a satsang.

20-year-old youngest British MP in 300 years

A 20-year-old student representing the Scottish National Party has become Britain’s youngest member of parliament in over 300 years after defeating Labour’s shadow foreign secretary.

Mhairi Black secured defeated Douglas Alexander, 47, in Paisley and Renfrewshire South by over 6,000 votes.

Alexander is Labour’s foreign affairs spokesman and campaign chief. The humiliating defeat ends the political career of one of Labour’s most senior figures and sums up Labour’s dismal performance and an SNP sweep in Scotland.

Pakistan sends holy water of Katas Raj Temple to LK Advani

In a goodwill gesture, Pakistan has sent a pitcher of holy water of Katas Raj temple in Chakwal district of Punjab to BJP veteran L K Advani, who had in 2005 visited the temple for launch of restoration work.

The pitcher carrying the holy water from the ‘Amar Kund’ (holy pond) of the temple was sent to Advani on Thursday by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit. In 2005, Government of Pakistan had invited Advani, the then BJP president, to be the chief guest at a function to commemorate the restoration of the Katas Raj Temple in Pakistan’s Punjab district.

Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case: DSP Amin, lone accused in jail, also gets bail

Deputy Superintendent of Police, NK Amin – the only accused left in jail in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case – was granted bail on Friday by a special CBI court on grounds of worsening health and parity with the co-accused.

The bail plea is allowed on personal and surety bonds of Rs.2 lakh each, special CBI court judge K R Upadhyay said while granting relief to Amin, who is suffering from prostate cancer. The CBI court in February this year had granted bail to IPS officers DG Vanzara and PP Pandey.

Authorities in the US are still looking for an Indian-American IT professional who went missing after a suspected drunken driver knocked him into a river when he stopped to help at the scene of a car crash.

Puneet Nehra, 43, had stopped to assist with a crash on the bridge when the first crash scene was struck by an intoxicated driver. He has not been located yet. The Sheriff’s Office, along with local fire departments, have been actively searching the river by boat and helicopter.

Pakistan has questioned the veracity of India’s dossiers on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim calling them “self-serving” and said government’s comments in Parliament on his whereabouts vindicated its sustained stand that the fugitive was not in its territory.

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit said the comments by Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary in Parliament on Tuesday justified his country’s worries on the issue and asserted that India has not placed any request with Islamabad in writing for Dawood’s extradition.

7.2-magnitude quake hits Papua New Guinea

An earthquake of 7.2 magnitude jolted Papua New Guinea on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The area that was jotled is 149 km southwest of the town of Panguna on Bougainville Island.

The epicentre, with a depth of 22.1 km, was initially determined to be at 7.3 degrees latitude south and 154.5 degrees longitude east, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has not issued any tsunami warning yet.

There are no reports of casualties or property loss so far.

IBM and Facebook enter into new marketing partnership

In other words, customers will now be able to buy Facebook ads with combined data from Facebook and IBM’s Marketing Cloud customer data platform.

IBM is reported to have invested millions of dollars in its Marketing Cloud analytics, TechCrunch reported.

According to IBM, the advantage with the new approach is that the customers can take campaigns that work on Facebook and replicate them elsewhere.

Harassed by seniors, 4 women SAI athletes attempt suicide, 1 dead

A 15-year-old sportsperson died early on Thursday and three others, all undergoing training at Water Sports Centre of Sports Authority of India (SAI) here have been hospitalised, after they ate a poisonous fruit in an apparent suicide pact following alleged harassment by seniors.

The girls are suspected to have eaten the fruit, locally called ‘Othalanga’, around 3 pm yesterday inside the SAI women’s hostel. They were rushed to a hospital around 7 pm after they fainted and were later taken to the Alapuzha Medical College, where one of them died, the police said.

LeT operations commander Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai terror attack, has pleaded before an Anti-Terrorism Court to exempt him from appearing in the court, citing alleged security threat.

Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi, counsel for Lakhvi, filed the application in the ATC Islamabad on Monday requesting it to exempt his client from appearing in the court in the 26/11 case as he is facing “serious threats” to his life.
