Setting up separate townships for Kashmiri Pandits not a good idea: Yogendra Yadav

Expelled Aam Aadmi Party leader Yogendra Yadav on Sunday said that the setting up of a composite township for the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community was not a good idea.

“Kashmiri Pandits are the victims of the circumstances who have suffered a lot. I would personally say that setting up of separate townships for them (in Kashmir) is not a good idea,” Yadav told reporters. He said that setting up of a separate township was neither possible nor would provide security to the people living in it.

Over 1,000 flee as typhoon threatens northern Philippines

More than 1,000 people were evacuated from their homes as Typhoon Noul approached the northern Philippines, threatening flash floods, landslides and tsunami-like storm surges, government agencies warned today. The storm’s movement has slowed slightly but it has also strengthened to pack gusts of 205 kilometres per hour and is still expected to hit the northern edge of the main island of Luzon by afternoon or evening, according to Esperanza Cayanan, chief of the government’s weather monitoring division.

UP: ‘Cheating’ students open fire at invigilators during exam

An centre superintendent and a teacher were left injured on Sunday after a group of students opened fire at them during an exam at a private institute in Moradabad .

The accused fired at the victims when they tried to stop them from cheating during the exam.

“My younger brother is a centre superintendent on behalf of the government and he was invigilating the exam. The students tried to cheat in the exam, so he tried to oppose the students. One of the students had an unauthorised pistol and they suddenly opened fire,” said the centre superintendent’s brother.

Uttarakhand Government to Open Residential Schools in All 13 Districts

In order to provide quality education to children, all 13 districts in Uttarakhand will have residential schools in their most backward regions by the end of the year, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said.

‘Rajiv Gandhi Abhinav Awasiya School’ would be opened in the least developed regions of 13 districts in the state where primary and junior high schools are facing closure due to less number of students, a government release quoted Mr Rawat as saying, in a meeting with senior officials yesterday.

ED conducts searches in Delhi, Gurgaon in IPL betting case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday conducted searches in and around Delhi in connection with its hawala probe against some betting syndicates related allegedly to IPL T-20 cricket matches.

Sources said that about four locations in Delhi and neighbouring Gurgaon were covered during the searches which are being conducted by the Ahmedabad office of the agency in coordination with their local counterparts.

“The searches are being conducted on some suspects who acted as bookies during the recent Indian Premier League matches held in the county.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that lack of majority in the Rajya Sabha has made it difficult for the BJP government to make law for construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

A Budgam resident, who managed to get hall ticket for his brown cow to write a professional entrance examination, today did not turn up with the bovine for the paper at the allocated centre here, saying he only wanted to convey a message about the “flaw” in the system.

Girl burnt to death for protesting against sexual abuse

ASI Declares Taj Mahal, Other Monuments Safe After Nepal Quake

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) today declared Taj Mahal and all other monuments under it “safe” after conducting a detailed assessment in the wake of the devastating quake that wrecked Nepal and reverberated through several states in northern and eastern India.

“We had instructed all our circles in North India to inspect their monuments and report their condition after the Nepal earthquake on April 25. All monuments have been found to be safe,” ASI Director General Rakesh Tewari told PTI.

4.3 magnitude earthquake hits Gujarat

A mild quake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was felt this morning in Kutch district of Gujarat. However, there were no reports of any casualties.

“A minor earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale hit Kutch district at 6.30 AM. The epicentre of the earthquake was 22 kms northwest from Bhachau town of district,” officials of the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) said.
