A Mumbai builder has allegedly refused to sell a flat to a Mumbaikar on grounds that he was a Marathi, sparking a protest on Friday.

The unpalatable experience was narrated by a resident of suburban Goregaon, Vaibhav S. Rahate who attempted to a buy a flat from Shrinathji Builders in Malad recently.

Shocked by the refusal, Rahate went to lodge a complaint with the Malad police station. But the police, he said, refused to entertain his grievance.

Earthquake in Nepal: 5 aftershocks jolt Nepal

Nepal was today rocked by five aftershocks, including one measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, following last month’s devastating earthquake that claimed nearly 9,000 lives. A moderate 5.2-magnitude tremor struck Nepal at 3.44 pm with epicenter at Dhading district. A 4-magnitude tremor was recorded at 8.30 am with its epicentre located in Gorkha district, according to the National Seismological Centre in Kathmandu.

Yasin Mirza, a 23 year old murdered his 63-year-old father following an argument over a financial issue at Hasannagar in Rajendranagar on Wednesday night.

According to Rajendernagar police, Azhar Mirza, who lives in Mumbai, came to the city to see his son Yasin Mirza, a salesman at Inorbit mall and has been residing in Hasannagar for the past few years.

CCTVs to be installed for the Safety of women in Cyberabad

Taking the measures for the safety of the women in city, the Cyberabad police have started the process of installing 3,000 CCTV cameras in its vast jurisdiction of 3,700 sq km to develop a ‘Safe and Smart City’ in Greater Hyderabad area.

The Cyberabad Police Commissioner, CV Anand, on Thursday told the media that the project was being implemented in four parts. This is the first CCTV project to be taken up by the State government.

Radioactive leak at IGI Airport’s cargo terminal

Rajdhani coach attendant held for molesting woman passenger

A train coach attendant was on Thursday arrested in New Delhi for allegedly molesting a 32-year-old woman passenger on board the premier Rajdhani train.

According to police, the accused has been identified as one Dharmendra.

The woman has alleged that the coach attendant of the Bhubaneswar Rajdhani had tried to touch her inappropriately at night when everyone was sleeping.

90,000 Indian students apply for US visa, 60 per cent increase registered this year

The number of student visa applications for the United States has registered a 60 per cent increase this year with a whopping 90,000 applicants, of whom only about 4,000 could make the cut.

According to an official statement, around 4,000 students managed to get student visa which saw over 90,000 applicants, a number which doubled at the US embassy and consulates, especially in Mumbai and Hyderabad, over the last 12 months.

Authorities have detained an obscure Chinese artist after he posted online a humorous portrait of President Xi Jinping, his wife said on Thursday.

Judy Zhu said police accused her husband, Dai Jianyong, of “creating a disturbance” after detaining him on Tuesday near their Shanghai home. Dai is known for posting eclectic photos on social media, including some showing himself and others scrunching up their lips and eyes. Migrant crisis: Bangladesh to set up special courts to try traffickers

Toilets in Schools: SBI Hyderabad donates Rs 2.19 Crore

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Hyderabad circle on Wednesday donated `2.19 crore for construction of 102 toilets in 53 government schools in Adilabad district under the Swachh Vidyalaya campaign.

Deputy managing director of the SBI’s Hyderabad Circle, CR Sasikumar said SBI will help in providing water by laying bores and pipelines. The toilets will be maintained by the bank for two years through the Wockhardt Foundation.

British man jailed for attempting to join ISIS

A young British Muslim was sentenced six years’ imprisonment by a court for trying to travel to Syria to join Islamic State, local media reported.

Zakariya Ashiq, 20, from Coventry, was found guilty on two counts of preparing acts of terrorism at the Old Bailey, the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, in London, Xinhua reported cited local media reporting on Wednesday.
