24,515 jobless engineering graduates get register with TSPSC

Jobless engineering graduates are not uncommon even as the vacancies abound in different companies round the year. The one-time registration facility of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) just demonstrates the same.

The OTR facility was introduced by the TSPSC to help job aspirants, registered with the facility, receive latest information on upcoming notifications issued by TSPSC through an SMS and e-mail. Once registered, candidates need not have to re-enter their details time and again for different jobs.

KTR dares Naidu to undergo lie-detector test

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s son and a state minister K. Tarakarama Rao on Monday dared Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to face a live lie-detector test in the cash-for-vote scandal.
The panchayat raj and information technology minister on Monday said he was ready for lie-detector test live on television but asked Naidu if he was ready for the same.

Fake certificate racket busted in Tolichowki

City police have claimed to arrest a fake educational certificate racket with the arrest of two persons, under Langer House police station limits.

Police seized 275 blank letter heads, 350 fake educational certificates, 12 fake rubber stamps, a laptop, printer, four cell phones and 75 fake certificates of different universities were seized from them.

Father strangles four daughters in Pakistan

A Pakistani man has murdered his four young daughters in the central province of Punjab, police said on Tuesday.

The crimes occurred in Chak Jumra town, around 215 kilometres (135 miles) northwest of Lahore.

“Irshad Ahmed, a resident of Chak Jumra strangled his four daughters, two sets of twins, late Sunday night,” local police official Ghulam Shabir told AFP.

He said the victims were all aged between four and seven.

Ishrat Jahan case: MHA denies sanction to prosecute ex-IB official, 3 others

In what could put brakes on the probe in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case in Gujarat, the Centre has denied sanction sought by CBI to prosecute ex- IB official Rajender Kumar and his three colleagues, all of who were charged with criminal conspiracy.

In relief for Kumar and others, the Union Home Ministry today said the sanction was denied after a detailed examination of facts, circumstances and records made available to it in respect of the 11-year-old case. The CBI had also charged Kumar with murder.

Rupee firms up 16 paise against dollar

The rupee appreciated 16 paise to 63.92 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Besides, strengthening of the euro against the dollar in overseas market on solid German data supported the rupee, but a lower opening in the domestic equity market limited the gains, forex dealers said.

The rupee had tumbled 33 paise to end at a 4-week low of 64.08 against the American currency in yesterday’s trade on the back of a firm greenback in the overseas market and sharp fall in the equity market.

99 pc of hotels in Pernem taluka are illegal, claims Goa CM

Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has stoked a controversy claiming that almost 99 percent of the hotels in coastal Pernem belt in the state are illegal.

In a bizarre case, a Times Square fortune teller has been accused of fleecing out more than $700,000 from a lovelorn man who had sought spiritual advice in a bid to be united with the woman he loved.

A 32-year-old man from Brooklyn, who has not been named in court documents, said he had an ally in his quest — a fortuneteller — who fought the evil spirits day and night from her storefront in Times Square, according to accusations that led the police to arrest her last month.

Refused by cops, Rape victim ends life

A minor girl committed suicide at Tatibandh area of state capital after cops allegedly refused to lodge complaint against rape accused on Saturday morning.

“They asked us ‘proof of the rape and for her age certificate,” said her father, claiming that she was extremely upset after the police did not file the complaint.

The girl, according to her parents, had gone missing ever since her neighbor Poonam took her with a promise to get her a job. After returning home, a day later, she told her parents that she was sold off at Rs 5,000 to an unidentified man, who raped her.

ACB questions TDP MLA, aides in cash-for-vote scam

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana on Monday continued questioning TDP legislator A. Revanth Reddy and two others in the cash-for-vote scam.

The ACB sleuths interrogated the three accused men at its headquarters for the third consecutive day.

Hate speech: SC bench recuses from hearing Swamy’s plea

A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice R K Agrawal today recused itself from hearing the plea of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy against the order of an Assam trial court issuing a non-bailable warrant against him for failing to appear before it in a case of alleged hate speech.

The bench, also comprising Justice Amitava Roy, referred the matter to another bench saying, “If it has to come before another bench, why apply mind. List it before another bench on June 22.”

Delhi Metro services briefly hit by technical snags

Metro rail service on the Dwarka-Noida City Centre route was disrupted on Monday morning due to a technical snag near Ramakrishna Ashram Marg Metro station, an official said.

Hundreds of commuters on Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line route – from Jehangirpuri to Huda City Centre in Gurgaon – too were inconvenienced due to a technical snag earlier, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official added.

A Metro train developed a snag while running between Karol Bagh and Ramakrishna Ashram Marg stations on the Blue Line.

AIPMT paper leak: SC extends stay on result declaration till June 12The Supreme Court on Monday extended the stay on declaration of results of the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) till June 12, which was marred by a paper leak.

The Supreme Court had last week asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to not declare the results of the AIPMT till June 10 in wake of the ongoing investigations.

The Haryana Police have arrested 12 people, including three doctors, in connection with the case so far.

Phase II human trial for Type-1 diabetes vaccine

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a phase II clinical trial for testing the ability of a promising vaccine to reverse advanced Type-1 diabetes, researchers said.

The generic vaccine called Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) was earlier found effective in reversing advanced Type-1 diabetes in mice and subsequently completed a successful phase I human clinical trial.

Sensex gives up early gains, slips over 150 points

The BSE Sensex washed out its initial gains, turning lower by more than 150 points in the late morning trade, due to fresh selling pressure mainly in auto, banking, consumer durables and refinery sectors following
foreign capital outflows.

Volatility ruled as the key benchmark indices reversed their initial direction.

The Sensex resumed higher at 26,814.31 and firmed up further to 26,827.06 on initial buying. But it declined immediately to 26,588.70 before trading at 26,615.75 at 1145 hours, a loss of 152.71 points, or 0.57%, from
its last close.

Rupee down 37 paise vs dollar; extends fall in late morning

The rupee dropped by 37 paise to 64.12 against the American currency in the late morning trade on dollar demand from banks and importers on the back of higher dollar in the overseas market.

Foreign capital outflows also affected the rupee value against the dollar, a forex dealer said.

In the overseas market, the dollar soared against most of its rivals on last Friday, hitting a 13-year high against the Japanese yen, after a strong US jobs report indicated the economy bounced back strongly in May, sparking a surge in treasury yields.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan attended the screening of his last release Piku at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Sunday and said President Pranab Mukherjee absolutely loved the movie, which is about a Bengali family.

The 72-year-old actor was accompanied by the film’s director Shoojit Sircar and son Abhishek Bachchan. The movie’s other two stars- Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan were not present at the screening as they are currently out of country.

Filmmaker Karan Johar has raved about the National Award winning Tamil drama “Kaaka Muttai” and said that it has moved him.

“Kaaka Muttai is a gem of a film! Genuinely moved by it…Small film….with a huge heart! Congrats @foxstarhindi @dhanushkraja,” Karan posted on his Twitter page on Monday.

Directed by M. Manikandan, the film chronicles the journey of two street urchins for their first bite of pizza.

ISS astronaut ‘shakes’ hand with scientist on Earth

A NASA astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) has been able to ‘shake hands’ with a scientist 8,046 km away on Earth, making history with the first telerobotic ‘handshake’ between space and Earth.

NASA astronaut Terry Virts on the ISS shook hands with European Space Agency (ESA) telerobotics specialist Andre Schiele in the Netherlands using a special force feedback joystick on June 3.

“It felt as though Terry was extending his arm down from space to shake my hand,” Andre said.

Police backed by K-9 units and helicopters staged a manhunt on Sunday for two convicted murderers who escaped from New York state’s biggest maximum security prison by cutting through cell walls with power tools and escaping along tunnels.

Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, pulled off the unprecedented breakout from the all-male Clinton Correctional Facility in the small town of Dannemora sometime between Friday night and early Saturday. Police said the discovery was made during a pre-dawn bed check and warned the duo should not be approached.
