Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today thanked the media for highlighting the financial hardships faced by two brothers from Pratapgarh who recently cracked the prestigious IIT entrance exam and said that his government will provide help to any such case brought to his notice.

Raju (18) and Brijesh (19), sons of a daily wager from Rehua Lalganj village in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh, recently cleared the IIT Advanced examinations. Raju secured 167th rank in his first attempt while his brother Brijesh stood 410th in the prestigious exam.

DJ Shot Dead for Not Playing Song on Demand in Uttar Pradesh

A Disc Jockey (DJ) operator was shot dead by a youth for not playing a song of latter’s choice at Sidhauli village in Meerganj area, police said today.

Arun Valmiki (30) was shot dead by Ashu alias Ishu when he express his inability to play a song demanded by the latter late last night, it said.

The incident took place during a birthday party of the granddaughter of jeweller Hariom Gupta, police said.

Arun was taken to community health centre where doctors declared him dead.

Pebble has begun pre-orders of its latest smartwatch, the Pebble Time.

Users can pre-order the watch through Best Buy in the US, and in Pebble’s online store, if they live outside of the U.S. The shipments of the smartwatch will begin in early July.

Pebble Time is one of two new versions of the smartwatch running the latest OS and a color screen. The Pebble Time uses a new interaction paradigm based on a timeline of events, letting users glance ahead at what is coming up and look back at what has already happened at any time during the day.

A young man from a militancy-plagued region in Jammu and Kashmir has cracked the AIIMS medical entrance test and is itching to join the country’s premier medical institute as a doctor.

Shahid Nabi, a resident of Tral, a town 60 km from Srinagar, has also secured the eighth rank in the Jammu and Kashmir Common Entrance Test (JKCET).

Naturally, there is elation in his village, Baragam. Tral is considered a hotbed of militancy and usually remains socially disturbed.

England wins first knock-out match in FIFA Women’s World Cup

England women’s team has created history by winning its first knock-out match, defeating Norway 2-1 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Defender Lucy Bronze scored a stunning long range strike in the 76th minute of the match and helped her team to reach the quarter-finals where they would be facing the host nation Canada.

High Court upholds Muslim woman’s right to BC status after her conversion to Islam

The Madras High court came to the rescue of a woman, R.Ayesha, a muslim convertee. She was denied a government job, as her ‘Backward class’ status was rejected.

Ayesha, a Hindu woman of backward class, by birth, converted to Islam in 2005; upon which she received a community certificate stating that she belonged to the Muslim Labbai community. Muslim Labbai is a recognized BC community as per a July 19, 1994 government order.

Two persons, including a Nigerian national, were arrested for allegedly duping a woman school teacher of Rs 18 lakh, Cyberabad Police said on Monday.

Ani John Ibuchi (36), a Nigerian national, and Bilal Khan Ahmed Khan Deshmukh (33), both residents of Mumbai, were arrested for their alleged involvement along with others absconding accused in cheating a school teacher from Gachibowli, to the tune of Rs 18.11 lakh.

PM Modi Condoles Demise of Sister Nirmala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today offered his condolences over the demise of Sister Nirmala who succeeded Mother Teresa as the head of the Missionaries of Charity founded by the Nobel laureate.

“Sister Nirmala’s life was devoted to service, caring for the poor and underprivileged. Saddened by her demise. May her soul rest in peace,” PM Modi said in a statement.

“My deepest condolences to the Missionaries of Charity family on the passing away of Sister Nirmala,” he added.

Sister Nirmala Joshi breathed her last in Kolkata this morning. She was 81.

China blocks India’s move seeking action against Pakistan over release of Lakhvi

China has blocked India’s move in the UN demanding action against Pakistan over release of Mumbai attack mastermind and LeT commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi in violation of a resolution of the world body as it contended that India provided insufficient information.

As the UN Sanctions Committee met at India’s request, a clarification was to be sought from Pakistan over Lakhvi’s release in the 26/11 trial but the Chinese representatives blocked the move on grounds that India did not provide sufficient information, official sources said.

Indian workers in Dubai watches woman using mosque washroom, jailed

An Indian worker in Dubai, accused of watching a woman using a washroom in a mosque, was convicted of molestation and sentenced to three months in jail on Monday.

A Dubai court also ordered that the 26-year-old be deported on completion of his sentence, the Khaleej Times reported.

The worker claimed that he entered the washroom to clean its walls and fan.

The complainant, a 47-year-old Saudi translator, told the prosecutor that the incident occurred on March 11.

American carries out attacks in the name of IS, jailed

A 19-year-old American has been arrested over charges of conspiring to provide material support to Islamic State (IS) militant group after carrying out alleged attacks in the name of IS.

According to News24, the Justice Department said that Justin Nolan Sullivan was arrested in Morganton, North Carolina at his home in possession of an unlicensed silencer.

Sullivan allegedly planned to purchase a semi-automatic AR-15 assault rifle at a gun show to kill US citizens on behalf of the IS.

As per an annual survey by consultancy Mercer, the Angolan capital, Luanda, remains the world’s most expensive city for expatriates, while Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek is the “cheapest” one.

Luanda has held its position for the past three years because of the high cost of rent, imported goods and security in the oil-rich nation, the BBC reported.

Nathalie Constantin-Metral, principal at Mercer, said that European currencies have weakened against the US dollar, which pushed most western European cities down in the ranking.
