QLA in Delhi for European cuisine

Located away from the hubbub of south Delhi is the eloquently named QLA, a newly-opened European-style eatery which is thriving on innovation. The eatery has also done away with traditional menu cards in favour of an e-menu, which is displayed to guests on an iPad.

Decked out in urban European interiors and an enriching ambiance, QLA (the name is a wordplay on ‘Kila’) opened its doors to food and wine lovers last month and is now trying to make its mark in the city with its signature cocktails and a wide array of European cuisines.

A new study has suggested that as siblings learn how to resolve conflict, parents pick up a few tips of their own.

When children participated in a program designed to reduce sibling conflict, both parents benefited from a lessening of hostilities on the home front, but mothers experienced a more direct reward.

As they viewed the children’s sessions in real time on a video monitor and coached the kids at home to respond as they’d been taught, moms found that, like their kids, they were better able to manage their own emotions during stressful moments.

Instant messaging app WhatsApp has released an update for Windows Phone.

According to thenextweb.com, the update introduces voice calling facility and the ability to send audio files to those running Windows 8.1.

The feature has already been introduced for iOS and Android earlier this year and now Windows Phone users can finally benefit from it.

WhatsApp has more than 800 million active users.

Android phones now have Microsoft office

Microsoft has announced the official launch of Office for Android phones.

According to the Techcrunch.com, the services released includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint designed for the Android smartphone, follows earlier efforts of Microsoft at bringing Office to Android tablets, in addition to support for Office on iOS devices, Windows and OS X. The release comes five weeks after the company rolled out the suite of applications as a preview

PM Modi Greets Djibouti on Their Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted the people of Djibouti on their Independence Day.

“On Djibouti’s Independence Day, I convey my greetings and best wishes to the people of Djibouti,” PM Modi said.

He said that India remains grateful to Djibouti for their strong support and active cooperation to evacuate a large number of Indian nationals as well as nationals of other countries from strife-torn Yemen.

“It indicates the robustness of our ties,” the prime minister said.

Djibouti, an African country, gained independence from France on June 27, 1977.

Yogendra Yadav fears personality cult projection in approaching Anna Hazare

Newly-formed outfit Swaraj Abhiyan on Saturday said they might not ask anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare to get associated with them at this juncture fearing the personality cult projection, but might approach the veteran activist in future. “In future, if we might have a desire to have him (Anna Hazare)…we will request him to be with us and guide us. But right now we have not approached him,” Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav told PTI here in Goa, where he is on a private visit and will also meet local leaders.

Bowlers revlieved as ICC amends ODI rules

In what will come as a relief to bowlers, ICC has decided to get rid of catchers in the first ten overs, removed the batting Powerplay and also allowed five fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the last ten overs of an innings in one-dayers.

The ICC also said that all “no balls” and not just over stepping by the bowlers will result in a free hit in both ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals. The rule changes will come into effect for series starting on or after July 5.

Forest employees caught in red sanders smuggling in Kadapa

Seven forest employees were arrested in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, for their alleged involvement in smuggling of red sanders, police said on Saturday.

The accused were arrested by Kadapa police in a joint operation with anti-red sanders task force from Tirupathi late last evening. About 14 red sander logs worth Rs 9.28 lakh were recovered from their possession, Ontimitta Circle Inspector Ulasaiah said.

CBI to probe foreign funds to Teesta-linked firm, bank A/C frozen

In fresh trouble for social activist Teesta Setalvad, government on Friday asked CBI to probe the receipt of over Rs 3 crore by private firm Sabrang Communication and Publishing Pvt Limited (SCPPL) linked to her from foreign donors, including US-based Ford Foundation, in alleged violation of FCRA rules.

In a parallel move, government froze the bank account of the firm located in Juhu, Mumbai, as the Home Ministry claimed that the firm was not authorised to receive funds from abroad as it was not registered under Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA).

China’s economy to grow by 6.93% in Q2

China`s economy will grow by 6.93 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, according to a report.The report by the National Academy of Economic Strategy (NAES), which is affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on Friday said the growth forecast is lower than the 7-percent annual growth target, but 0.13 percentage points higher than the earlier NAES forecast, reported Xinhua news agency.

Why Haryana parents want their wards to fail?

Strange as it may sound but parents in Haryana are asking teachers not to pass their wards in primary classes as they don’t have class-appropriate competence.

More than 25,000 such requests have been received from parents from across the state, mainly from rural areas, as most of them say their children are not fit to be promoted, say state education department officials.

“We have decided to abolish the semester system in the schools from the next session,” education minister Ram Bilas Sharma told on Friday.

Celkon launches manufacturing unit

Indian mobile phones-maker Celkon on Friday launched its first state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Medchal, Telangana, a company statement said. The manufacturing unit is 30,000 square feet in area and is ready to start production from day one.

The unit will start with four production lines which will deliver a production capacity of 200,000 units per month. The production lines will be increased to 12 and the production is expected to touch 500,000 units per month within the next quarter.

‘The Transformative Power of Art’ exhibition, organized by President of the General Assembly Sam Kutesa, will be thrown open to the public on June 30.

The late director, who received an honorary Oscar in 1992, the same year that he was bestowed with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna, is among the 16 personalities whose portraits has been displayed.

5 Lions Found Dead in Gujarat After Heavy Rain Leads to Flooding

Heavy rains, which caused a flood like situation in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region, claimed lives of five Asiatic lions in the Amreli and Bhavnagar districts, forest officials said.

Three lions, including a three-month-old female cub, were killed after they drowned following heavy rainfall in the Amreli district, while carcasses of two other lions were found from the Bhavnagar district, forest officials said.

A top Indian-origin executive at micro-blogging site Twitter has resigned, the latest in a recent string of departures from the company including that of CEO Dick Costolo.

Rishi Garg, the Vice President for Corporate Development and Strategy at Twitter, a role that put him in charge of the Mergers & Acquisition strategy, has announced his departure after a tenure of 13 months.

“After an amazing ride as Twitter’s VP Corporate Development and Strategy, I’m saying farewell today,” he tweeted yesterday.

Cafe Coffee Day parent company files for IPO to raise Rs 1,150 crore

Coffee Day Enterprises, the company that runs the country’s biggest coffee chain under the brand Cafe Coffee day has submitted its papers with market regulator Sebi to get listed on the Indian bourses. The company intends to raise an estimated Rs 1,150 crore to aid its expansion plans and pay off debt.

The parent company has investors like private equity giants KKR, Stanchart PE and New Silk Route. It has reserved Rs 15-crore worth shares for its staff.

Greek prime minster calls for referendum on creditors’ reform plan on July 5

Greece’s talks with its creditors for a bailout plan took a dramatic turn today with the radical left Syriza government lead by Alexis Tsipras calling for a referendum on the latest proposed deal on July 5, and hence rejecting the “ultimatum” given by its lenders. A referendum will have the entire electorate vote for the fate of the creditors’ proposed plan. The government will be working toward urging voters to reject the plan.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced the referendum in a televised address to the nation, following an emergency meeting of his cabinet.

Indian High Commissioner and wife, facing assault allegations, to leave New Zealand

Indian High Commissioner in New Zealand is set to leave the country after allegations that his wife had assaulted a staff member.

High Commissioner Ravi Thapar was formally recalled and a vehicle was seen this morning at his Wellington address, media reports said on Saturday.

NZ Radio website said that Police were declined to interview both Thapar and his wife Sharmila.

Police said that the staff member who made the allegation of assault had returned to India in early May.
