NASA developing biodegradable drone that dissolves after use

NASA along with a team of researchers is developing a biodegradable drone that self-destructs to leave no trace of its existence after its use.

According to CNN, the drone is made from a substance that combines mushroom fibers called mycelium and cloned paper wasp spit.

Lynn Rothschild, the NASA developer guiding students from Stanford-Brown-Spelman working on the project, says the drone could be made to disappear simply by ditching it into a stream or puddle, the report says.

Jaitley meets state Finance Ministers in Delhi

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday chaired a meeting with the chairman and members of the empowered committee of state finance ministers.

The meeting is being held to discuss the challenges in rolling out the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The Centre is reportedly working towards rolling out the GST from April 1, 2016, and is in discussion with the states to shield their revenues from the impact of the GST.

The GST will include indirect taxes like excise duty and service tax at the central level and VAT and local taxes on the states front.

Maha govt to set up Wakf Board tribunal in Nagpur

Maharashtra government will soon establish a State Wakf Board tribunal here to “streamline” the working of the body and expedite removing of encroachments on the Waqf land.

“The State Wakf Board which has its headquarters in Aurangabad is flooded with work and and there is a need for streamlining its working, therefore the government will set up a tribunal in the second capital here (Nagpur),” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Legislative Assembly during the Question Hour.

Pakistan’s former military dictator Gen Pervez Musharraf has said he believes in a tit-for-tat policy on all fronts and claimed that Kargil conflict was in response to India’s role in the creation of Bangladesh.

71-year-old former president, who masterminded the Kargil conflict in 1999 and ruled over Pakistan for nine years, said that India had played role in creating Bangladesh and trying to seize Siachin.

WHO says Ebola spread still ‘running ahead’ of virus containment efforts

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that the deadly Ebola virus is still “running ahead” of the global health watchdog’s efforts to contain it.

According to the BBC, Director general Margaret Chan said the situation had improved in some parts of the worst-affected countries, but she warned against complacency.

She said that with the continuing outbreak of the killer virus, the risk to the world “is always there”.

Chan said that Liberia was seeing some good progress, especially in Lofa county and the capital.

5-month-pregnant woman found murdered in TN

A 25-year old pregnant woman was found murdered in front of her house here in the wee hours today even as her husband is absconding, police said.

Police who rushed to Avarampalayam, on information, found Vishnupriya lying in a pool of blood with fatal injuries on the head reportedly hit by some heavy objects.

Gold jumps by Rs 650, silver by Rs 1,600 on seasonal buying

Gold prices on Wednesday soared by Rs 650 to Rs 27,470 per ten gram in the bullion market here on strong seasonal demand and firm trends in global markets.

Silver also rose sharply by Rs 1,600 to Rs 38,400 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

A fall in rupee value against the US dollar and increased buying by jewellers and retailers amid ongoing wedding season lifted prices of the precious metal, bullion traders said. A cheaper rupee makes imports of the metal costlier. The rupee was trading weak at 62.05 against the US dollar at the forex market.

Imran Khan booked under terrorism act

Pakistan’s Opposition leader Imran Khan has been booked under terrorism act for allegedly inciting violence against Punjab’s former law minister RanaSanaullah during a rally in Faisalabad.

The case was registered yesterday after Sanaullah said that Imran and other people incited the attack at his place after a person was killed in clashes during the protest on Monday.

Saudi Arabia approves pact to hire Indian domestics

The Saudi Arabia government has approved an agreement for recruitment of Indian domestic workers including maids, media reported.

The council of ministers, chaired by Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defence, on Monday approved the Saudi Arabia’s agreement with Delhi, Arab News reported on Tuesday.

“It stipulates that such domestic labour shall have no criminal records, be trained in specialized centers in household work and educated on the kingdom’s customs and traditions as well as the terms and conditions of the employment contract,” Hajjar said.

Kerala Government not to ban kiss protest

Kerala government today said it would not impose a ban on ‘Kiss Protest’ organised by a section of people in the state against moral policing.

100 SHE Toilets soon in the city says GHMC

GHMC Special officer Sumesh Kumar said that for the first time GHMC proposes to set up 100 SHE Toilets across the city.

There are no washrooms for women at public places which causing hardship to them. The proposed washrooms will be setup near the railway stations, bus stands.

There were proposals earlier to construct ladies washrooms, but due to non-availability of open lands that could not be finalized.

PATNA: A panchayat in Bihar has ordered a girl, who was raped by four brothers and is now seven months pregnant, to take Rs 50,000 and undergo an abortion, police said on Thursday.

“The victim along with her mother and informed me that four brothers of her village raped her seven months back and now she is seven months pregnant,” said police official Sweta Gupta over telephone from Kishanganj, about 400 km from here.
