Rajiv Trivedi appointed as Principal Secretary

Telangana government has transferred Mr. Rajiv Trivedi (IPS) Additional Director General Police, Telangana State Special Police and appointed him as Principal Secretary. Dr. Rajiv Sharma issued orders in this connection. Mr. Rajiv Trivedi was serving additional responsibility as police sports. He has been relieved from the responsibility.

Registrar Osmania University, Prof. E Saresh Kumar attended the meeting of State Minority Commission and assured the commission that the decision in connection with the grievance of two professors of university will be taken within two weeks.

Registrar Prof E Saresh Kumar reached the commission on June 25 and assured sympathetic judgment with regard to two professors within two weeks.

Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana State Legislative Council Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbir strongly condemned remark against Nizam of Hyderabad in the report sent to World Bank by Telangana government. He claimed that the report unveiled the real face of Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao. To gain minorities’ support during Telangana movement and on the occasion of elections he repeatedly lauded the achievements of Nizam of Hyderabad but when he gained power he showed his true colours.

For this they stay awake the whole night.

No compromise in rape case over wedlock: SC

The Supreme Court on Wednesday held that there can be no compromise in a rape case in the name of promising wedlock.

An apex court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said that any compromise promising wedlock between a rape accused and the victim compromises the dignity of the woman.

The court said that such a compromise lacks sensitivity on the part of those promoting a settlement.

Sullying reputation of Nizam to obtain fund uncalled for

President Telangana Pradesh Congress Minority Department Mohammed Sirajuddin expressed surprise over the remarks made by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao regarding Nizam. TRS government is working on secret agenda, he said. He told that sullying reputation of Huzoor Nizam to obtain funds from World Bank is not befitting on part of the government.

While KCR earlier declared Huzoor Nizam’s period as golden era and announced to put into practice Nizam’s system of governance in Telangana. But Chief Minister’s real face was unveiled in the report submitted to World Bank.

HC declines to quash murder proceedings against former DSP

The Madras High Court today declined to quash murder case proceedings in a lower court at Tirunelveli against a former Deputy Superintendent of Police on the ground that he was not protected under the Criminal Procedure Code as he had acted beyond his jurisdictional area.

Rejecting the plea of I Eswaran, the second accused in the case, Justice M M Sundaresh said he had not performed his duty in his jurisdictional area of Nagercoil, but in Tirunelveli district, allegedly causing the death of a man. Then he would not be protected under CrPc.

Literacy rate at 71 pc in rural India, 86 pc in urban: survey

Literacy rate in rural areas was pegged at 71 per cent last year, compared to 86 per cent in urban areas, while among the age group of seven years and above, male literacy rate was found higher than the female literacy rate, according to NSSO survey released today.

Among the age group of seven year and above, the male literacy rate was registered at 83 per cent vis-a-vis the female literacy rate of 67 per cent, an official statement said.

Russia targets Kremlin critic Khodorkovsky in murder probe

Russian investigators announced today that Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky might have ordered the murder of a Siberian mayor, saying they would seek to question the self-exiled former tycoon.

Investigators said they were reviving a criminal probe into the 1998 murder amid efforts by Khodorkovsky, chief of the former oil company Yukos, to challenge President Vladimir Putin’s grip on power from his self-imposed exile in Switzerland.

Khodorkovsky, once Russia’s richest man, suggested that authorities were seeking to punish him for his criticsm of the Kremlin.

Woman prisoner tries to hang self in Tihar Jail

A 30-year-old woman, lodged in jail number 6 of Tihar prison, today allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging herself.

Another inmate reported the matter to the security guards and the woman was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, officials said.

She later returned to the jail after being discharged and was sent for counselling, they said.

The woman, identified as Parminder, is reportedly serving a life sentence in a murder case. She was reported to be depressed for the past few days as no one from her family had come to meet her for a very long time.

Four constables, ex-cop held for robbery

Four constables and a former policeman from Telangana were arrested today for allegedly robbing a financier of a precious stone among other items.

Osmania University (OU) Police arrested Constables D Balu Naik, K Rajugopal, M Srinu Naik and Y Raju – attached to different wings in Hyderabad and Nalgonda district of Telangana, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone) V Ravinder said.

The fifth accused was identified as C Venkata Rajam, a constable who has been dismissed from service, he said.

MLALAD scheme suffers ‘many deficiencies’: CAG

CAG today picked holes in the Delhi government’s MLALAD scheme saying that it suffered from “many deficiencies” and several revisions over the years had resulted in the gradual “dilution” of its guidelines.

In its report tabled in the Delhi Assembly, the government auditor said that the shortcomings had led to absence of clarity and transparency in implementation of the scheme.

Time Technoplast buys out Egypt JV firm for USD 900K

Packaging firm Time Technoplast today said it has bought out the remaining 50 per cent stake in a joint venture in Egypt for USD 9,00,000.

The company had set up a 50:50 JV with local partner in Egypt for manufacture of drums, jerrycans and pails at Suez in Egypt.

Goods tax rates revised in Haryana

Haryana government today approved an amendment in the Punjab Passenger and Goods Taxation Rules, 1952, to revise the rates of goods tax on commercial vehicles.

The rates of goods tax on commercial vehicles have now been rationalised and revised in order to keep up with the passage of time and the rates in the neighbouring states, said an official release.

This will also bring in additional tax revenue to the state, to the extent of about Rs 170 crore per annum, it said.

Fullerton raises Rs 450 cr funding from IFC

Non-banking finance company Fullerton India today said it has raised Rs 450 crore from International Finance Corporation (IFC).

“These funds are raised through the subscription of secured non-convertible debentures (NCDs), with an average maturity period of 5 years,” Fullerton said in a statement.

These NCD’s are rated, listed and tradeable on the National Stock Exchange.

This additional funding will enable the company to cater to the further growth and expansion of the SME and MSME business, the statement said.

CAG raps Delhi govt over mid-day meal quality

Around 89 per cent food samples of the mid-day meal scheme failed to pass the “nutritive” value test during 2010-14 in Delhi, a CAG report has said.

The government auditor also said that of the 18,000 children supported under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan only 1,154 were covered during 2013-14.

It also stated that the average attendance in primary schools of the Delhi government decreased 12 per cent in four years.

Maharashtra to set up monument for Param Vir Chakra awardees

The Maharashtra government has decided to set up a first of its kind monument for Param Vir Chakra awardees at the Birla Sports Centre here.

A decision to this effect was taken by Maharashtra state finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar today at a meeting chaired by him, which was attended by Revenue Department Principal Secretary Manu Kumar Shrivastav, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) Commissioner Ajoy Mehta and others.

Incidentally, an announcement was made about it during the last session of the Maharashtra State Legislature.

TCS to hire 60K employees this fiscal, says Mistry

Country’s largest IT services firm TCS today said it will hire 60,000 people this fiscal and impart training to its existing one lakh employees in various digital technologies.

The software exporter is also ramping up investments in the digital solutions space.

“Digital is a key stream for us going ahead. We are investing in training all our people. This year, we will be training 1,00,000 people in terms of various digital technologies,” managing director and chief executive N Chandrasekaran told the shareholders at the 20th AGM here.

Sebi bans 8 cos for failure to address investor grievances

Sebi today barred eight companies from the securities market till they resolve all pending investor grievances.

These entities would also be required to get their SCORES (Sebi Complaints Redress System) authentication.

The companies against which Sebi has taken action are Sarda Information Technology, Supreme Telecoms and Network India, Sanwan Software, Sun Infoways, Systel Infotech, Subhlaxmi Export, Shanti Packaging and Rishab Concast.

Gujarat to announce new tourism policy within a month

The Gujarat government plans to announce its new tourism policy with a focus on eco-tourism within a month, Gujarat Finance and Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel said here today.

He said that the policy would focus on developing eco-tourism destinations in Gujarat, besides promotion of wildlife tourism. The policy will replace the existing policy which was announced in 2009, he said.

Amended Delhi Value Added Tax Bill cleared by assembly

The Delhi Assembly today passed the Delhi Value Added Tax (Second Amendment) Bill which will allow the state government to regulate the VAT on petroleum products, liquor and aerated drinks.

Objecting strongly to the bill, BJP’s MLA Vijendra Gupta tore off its copy and staged a walkout along with party MLAs Om Prakash Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan.

Amending the existing VAT doesn’t mean that the state government will increase the tax. This move will only make tax system flexible, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the Finance Minister, said.

Cong, NCP join hands to corner BJP govt in Mah monsoon session

Opposition Congress and NCP will launch a joint offensive against Devendra Fadnavis government on various issues including allegations of impropriety surrounding some of its top ministers and suicides by farmers, in the upcoming monsoon session of the state legislature.
