New Delhi, March 05: Those who find the touchscreens on their ever- shrinking gadgets too fiddly to handle, will be glad to hear that scientists are developing a new touch surface — your own arm.

Developers at Microsoft Research and Carnegie Mellon University are working together to create an armband — named Skinput — that projects an interface directly on your skin.

They have combined a mini projector, which creates a changing display, with a sophisticated sensor that can tell which part of your arm is being tapped.

63 killed in UP ashram stampede

Lucknow, March 4: The promise of a free lunch and gift of utensils proved to be a fatal lure Thursday when 63 women and children were killed and 64 others were injured in a stampede that broke out when thousands gathered at an Uttar Pradesh ashram for a death anniversary ceremony.

The tragedy occurred around noon, when the gate of Kripaluji Maharaj’s ashram near Kunda town in Pratapgarh district, about 180 km from here, caved in under the physical pressure of surging crowds gathered to receive gifts from the ashram head.

Hunt on SEX GURU caught in sex scandal

Bangalore/Chennai, March 4 : The Karnataka government Thursday promised “very strict” action against self-styled godman Nithyananda, absconding since Tuesday after a Tamil TV channel aired a video of him allegedly having sex with two women.

Police in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are searching for the 32-year-old, formerly Rajasekaran. He hails from Tamil Nadu. While his main ashram is located there, he has built one on a 29-acre land in Bidadi on Bangalore’s outskirts.

Hooch toll rises to 35 in NCR districts

Ghaziabad, March 4 : At least 35 people have died and nearly as many were critically ill after consuming spurious liquor in Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr districts of Uttar Pradesh in pre- and post-Holi celebrations, police said Thursday.

At least 24 persons are critically ill in various hospitals of Meerut, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr.

Of the 24 critically ill people, six have lost their eyesight, police added.

Both Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr districts fall in the National Capital Region (NCR).

700 Killed in Temple Stampede in 8 years

New Delhi, March 04: Stampedes at temples and other religious places in India have claimed nearly 700 lives in the past eight years. At least 63 people were killed and 15 injured on Thursday when a gate at Kripalu Maharaj’s ashram at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh collapsed during distribution of food on the occasion of a ritual, for which nearly 10,000 people had converged. A glance at Thursday’s turn of events at UP ashram near Lucknow.

Dozens more were injured in the panic at the temple in Pratapgarh district, 650km (400 miles) south-east of Delhi.

Government shadows corrupt officers

New Delhi, March 04: The CBI has often faced flak for dragging its feet over important cases. But when it tries to act, it faces opposition from several government departments — both at the central and the state levels.

The resistance is in the form of delaying sanctions to the CBI to prosecute the corrupt public servants.

To file a chargesheet in the court, the CBI needs approval from the authorities concerned for each public servant booked under the charges of corruption and other crimes.

600 Million Tons of Water Found on Moon

Washington, March 03: A moon probe has found millions of tons of water on the moon’s north pole, NASA reported Monday. The vast source of water could one day be used to generate oxygen or sustain a moon base.

A NASA radar aboard India’s Chandrayaan-I lunar orbiter found 40 craters, ranging in size from 1 to 9 miles across, with pockets of ice. Scientists estimate at least 600 million tons of ice could be entombed in these craters.

US to supply laser-guided bombs to Pakistan

Washington, March 03: The US Air Force plans to deliver 1,000 laser-guided bomb kits to Pakistan this month to help Islamabad in its offensive against militants on the Afghan border, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

The Air Force is providing the kits after having delivered 1,000 MK-82 bombs last month to Pakistan’s military, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffry Glenn told.

The US military assistance underscored Washington’s role in backing Pakistan’s months-long campaign against Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants.

Israeli PM WANTED for MURDER in Dubai

Dubai police said Tuesday they are seeking the arrest of Israel’s prime minister and the head of its spy agency over the murder of a top Hamas militant in a hotel room of the Gulf city-state.

Police chief Dahi Khalfan said he had issued the demand for the arrest warrants as he was now certain they ordered the Cold War-style hit on Mahmud al-Mabhuh.

“I have presented the (Dubai) prosecutor with a request for the arrest of (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and the head of Mossad,” Meir Dagan, said Khalfan.

Blasphemous Danish Cartoonist burnt to death?

The editor of the Danish newspaper ‘Jyllands Posten’ was burnt to death when a fire mysteriously broke out in his bedroom, a Saudi newspaper claims.

According to the newspaper, the editor was sleeping in his bedroom when the fire ravaged his bedroom. He and his newspaper became controversial when it had published blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH).

Dubai, March 02: The website of a top Saudi cleric who issued an edict calling for those who support co-educational environments to be put to death has been shut down on Sunday.

Shaikh Abdul-Rahman al-Barrak’s website was shut down following a barrage of criticism from religious scholars in Saudi Arabia and Egypt condemning his fatwa (religious ruling) as a call for violence.

Sex guru shared rapport with Politicians

Lucknow,March 02:SHIV Murat Dwivedi alias Ichchadhari Bhimanand Maharaj, the alleged “ pimp guru” who was arrested from his ashram in south Delhi, had close ties with at least two Samajwadi Party ( SP) parliamentarians and many of its leaders.

Samajwadi MPs from Mirzapur and Banda, Bal Kumar Patel and R. K. Singh Patel were allegedly in charge of a three- day religious function organised by Dwivedi during Diwali last year at his village Chamrauha in Chitrakoot district.

NRI Saudi contribution is big source for India

Jeddah,March 02:Saudi Arabia is a major source of income for India as a result of remittances from Indian expatriates, who form one of the largest foreign community in the Kingdom of 25 million people, a report said on Sunday.

Indians form Saudi Arabia’s largest expatriate workforce, working in fields from information technology to construction, with most employed as blue-collar workers, the Banque Saudi Fransi report said.

Dinosaur fossil found in a garden

Norfolk, March 01: After it turned up in his rockery he moved it around his garden as an ornament for nine years, before eventually settling on a place for it in the greenhouse.

But the rock nagged away at his curiosity until eventually he gave in and sent it to experts at his local museum to be identified.

Their reply left him staggered — his lump of stone turned out to be a dinosaur fossil from 135million years ago.

Patna, February 27: A LEGISLATOR belonging to the ruling Janata Dal- United ( JD- U) in Bihar killed his wife and infant daughter before shooting himself in the early hours of Friday.

Abhay Singh ( 36) shot his wife Soni and six- month- old daughter Rashi from pointblank range with his licensed revolver in their Patna bedroom at around 3 in the morning.

His elder daughter, three- year old Khushi, who was sleeping with her grandmother in the adjoining room, survived.
