GHMC will complete regularisation in a month

Hyderabad, June 10: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will start the building regularisation process in a few days after going through the High Court judgement copy.

“We will announce the dates relating to the applications to be cleared per day through BRS Mela under categories like flats, individual houses, commercial buildings and others,” GHMC Commissioner S P Singh said.

Hyderabad, June 10: Syed Reyhan, the medical student who contracted Swine Flu on a trip to Canada, has stated that Swine Flu is not dangerous and is completely curable. “I want to clear this misconception about Swine Flu as something terrible to contract,” he said. He was discharged from the Government Chest Hospital on Tuesday morning after being in isolation for a week. He later talked to the media at an interactive session.

Lalu Prasad got lifetime free travel award as rail minister

New Delhi, June 10: A complimentary pass for life to travel in a first class air-conditioned coach for self and three companions. This was, perhaps, the last largesse doled out to Lalu Prasad during his final days as railways minister.

And this controversial order issued May 19, a copy of which has been obtained by IANS, has been challenged.

The largesse also extends to former ministers of state for railways – nut in their case, a sole companion and one attendant can be issued free tickets in the same categories of coaches as for their senior former colleague.

Ten-year girl identifies Kasab

Mumbai, June 10:A ten-year-old girl, rendered disabled during 26/11 terror strikes, today identified in court arrested gunman Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab as one of the two gunmen who had fired indiscriminately at passengers inside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.

Devika Rotawan, the youngest eyewitness to depose in the terror strikes trial, was asked by the court if she could identify the gunman among the three accused present in the dock.

All three accused, including Kasab stood in the dock, and the ten-year-old pointed at the Pakistani gunman. He, however, did not react.

Minority affairs ministry not only for Muslims: Khurshid

New Delhi, June 10: Minister of State for Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid says his ministry is “not only about Muslims” but will have all of India’s minority communities covered by it.

The implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations for the development of Muslims would also be a priority for his ministry, Khurshid said.

“This ministry is not only about Muslims but has all minority communities under its ambit. It needs a proper direction, minority affairs has a lot of potential.”

UN set to begin probe into Benazir assassination

Islamabad, June 10: The UN is set to begin its probe into the 2007 assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto with the appointment of a former Irish policeman as the third member of a commission that has been set up to conduct the enquiry.

Peter Fitzgerald, a former deputy commissioner of the Irish National Police Force, Garda Siochana, was a member of the UN commission that probed the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Harriri, Dawn reported Wednesday.

Noura al-Faiz’s appointment in February as deputy minister for women’s education was hailed as a big step for the integration of women in conservative Saudi Arabia where a puritanical form of Islam bans women from driving, voting and mixing with unrelated men.

Suicide Bombing Destroys Pakistan hotel; 14 dead

Islamabad, (Peshawar) June 10: A huge suicide truck bomb ripped through a luxury hotel Tuesday killing 14 people and wounding 52 in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, capital of a northwest province plagued by Taliban violence.

Two foreigners were among the dead in the devastating blast at the five-star Pearl Continental hotel, provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said, but would not reveal the nationalities.

Dhoni refuses to take queries on Sehwag’s fitness

Nottingham, June 10: India’s cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday refused to take any questions from the media on his deputy Virender Sehwag’s fitness.

Sehwag has been ruled out of the World Twenty20 due to an apparent shoulder injury and will return home.

TDP MLA faults Naidu

Hyderabad, June 10: The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday was agog with rumours that TDP MLA from Kovur in Nellore district, N Prasanna Kumar Reddy, was contemplating to quit Telugu Desam and join Congress.

The rumour spread like wild fire as Prasanna Kumar distributed a letter which he said he had written to party president N Chandrababu Naidu. In the letter, Reddy has advised Naidu to be wary of `chamchas’ and `buffoons’ who had “surrounded him and giving wrong advice leading to hasty decisions on important issues.”

Fine quality rice still eludes consumers

Hyderabad, June 10: The state government is finding it hard to live up to its promise of making fine quality rice available at Rs 20 per kg despite a
crackdown on hoarders across the state over the past fortnight.

Civil supplies minister J Krishna Rao on Tuesday said that a spate of raids on millers and hoarders across the state was yielding results with millers coming forward to sell fine quality rice (sona masuri) at Rs 26 per kg. The minister said raids by the vigilance and enforcement department across the state had resulted in the seizure of stocks worth Rs 119 crore.
