BJP for dissolution of GHMC standing committee

Hyderabad, September 17: Bharatiya Janata Party Floor Leader Bangari Prakash on Thursday demanded for the dissolution of standing committee of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as it is not addressing the problems of people.

Talking to INN, he said that though the standing committee met for ten times it did not solved even a single problem so far.

Though Mayor has powers to order GHMC Commissioner to attend the Standing Committee meeting, she is not doing so, he pointed out.

The Commissioner has attended only two standing committee meetings out of 10, he asserted.

Desist from violence, your demands just: Sailajanath to lawyers

Hyderabad, September 17: Justifying the demand of 42 percent quota in jobs for Telanganites, Government Whip S Sailajanath on Thursday appealed to Telangana leaders not to resort to violence before submission of Srikrishna Commission report on December 31.

Talking to media persons at the CLP Media Point, Mr Sailajanath said though lawyers demand was just, they should not resort to ransacking of court property and boycotts.

“The lawyers can raise their demands in a peaceful manner abiding by the Constitution without harming interests of others,” he said.

Raghuveera creating artificial scarcity, looting farmers: Babu

Hyderabad, September 17: Accusing Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy of looting farmers by selling fertilizers in black market and by creating artificial scarcity, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday demanded that Chief Minister K Rosaiah to explain reasons for failure in supply of required fertilizers to farmers.

Mr Naidu also criticized the state government for its failure in supplying fertilizers to farmers and alleged that it was moving at snail’s pace in initiating steps to allay farmers’ fears of crop loss.

Mr Dattatreya told media persons after interacting with the protesting lawyers that the Congress government is in slumber over the separate Telangana issue despite the demands for bifurcation growing more stringent.

Bookie says two more Pak players involved in fixing

London, September 17: Law enforcement agencies in Karachi are searching for an unidentified bookmaker, who appeared on a television show and claimed that all the Test matches played between Pakistan and England last month were fixed.

The bookmaker, whose face was hidden, appeared in a talk-show and claimed that there are two yet-to-be-caught players present in the Pakistan team who had been involved in match-fixing in the past.

The bookmaker also claimed that players were purchased by big bookmakers for bigger returns.

MQM leader killed in London, tension in Karachi

Islamabad, September 17: Prominent Pakistani politician and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq was stabbed to death outside his home in London, causing panic in Pakistan’s Karachi city Friday where life in most places came to a virtual standstill after news of his killing spread.

Farooq was repeatedly stabbed in the head and neck during the assault in Edgware, north London Thursday night.

Church set on fire in Colombia

Bogota, September 17: Miscreants set fire to a Catholic church in the Colombian capital city of Bogota Thursday, authorities said.

Octavio Mora, the parish priest in the Galan neighbourhood church, said the blaze was apparently the work of “Satanic” youths who have been making threats against his life.

Threatening graffiti had appeared on the walls and doors of the church recently, he said.

The miscreants made a pile of the church benches and sound system and set it ablaze before fleeing, authorities said, causing damage worth around $16,000.

India and China to explore cooperation in road building

New Delhi, September 16: India and China have agreed to explore the feasibility of mutual cooperation and financial investment in the road building sector, said an official release Thursday.

“The agreement to work towards signing a memorandum of understanding between the two countries was reached in a meeting between Road Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath and his Chinese counterpart Li Shenglin at Beijing,” the release said.

13 killed over water dispute in Pakistan

Islamabad, September 16: At least 13 people were killed on Thursday in a fresh clash between two tribal groups over water dispute in Pakistan’s northwestern Kurram region.

In the clash between Mangal and Bangash tribes, the two rival groups used automatic weapons against each other. As a result, 13 persons, including 10 Afghan nationals, were killed and 19 were seriously injured.

The dispute between the two groups had taken a new turn after the involvement of militants in the clashes which took place in the tribal region’s Shalozan and Tangi areas.

Nitish wants Modi to stay away from Bihar

Patna, September 16: Favouring continuation of the ‘old arrangement’ during the Bihar assembly polls, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday left it to the Bharatiya Janata Party to decide whether Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will campaign for the party during elections.

ACB raids on HACA employee, unearth assets of Rs 2.08cr

Hyderabad, September 16: Anti Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday conducted raids on the residence of Hyderabad Agricultural Co-operative Association Business Manager and unearthed movable and immovable property worth around Rs 2.08 crore.

The ACB raids began after the agency was tipped off that the BM, identified as P Rajeshwar, has amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to ACB sources, simultaneous searches were conducted at different places including his office, residence at Madhuranagar, Ramantapur in Hyderabad.

Lawyers attack Andhra High Court hall, tension coninues

Hyderabad, September 16: The situation in the Andhra Pradesh High Court premises remained tense Thursday as lawyers from Telangana continued their protest for the third day, attacking court halls and disrupting proceedings.

For the third day in a row, the protesters targeted the court hall of Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy, damaging furniture and throwing papers and books at him, eyewitnesses said. Lawyers vented their ire at him for continuing with court proceedings despite the boycott call.

PCB chief Butt meets Sharad Pawar

Islamabad, September 16: The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt on Thursday met the ICC President Sharad Pawar in New Delhi.

They both are believed to have discussed the spot-fixing controversy in which four Pakistani players have been questioned by Scotland Yard and three of them – Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt – have been suspended by the ICC.

The ICC made it clear that it would not tolerate corruption in cricket and warned of stern action against players found guilty in the spot-fixing scandal which has rocked world cricket.

HC advocate attempts suicide

Hyderabad, September 16: Tension prevailed near the Andhra Pradesh High Court when an agitating pro-Telangana advocate Thursday allegedly tried to commit suicide by dousing petrol in support of demands including to provide 42 per cent reservation in judiciary posts.

An advocate from Karimangar district of the state G V Gupta climbed the main gate of the High Court, took a petrol bottle and tried to douse on himself, but was prevented by other protesting advocates. In the melee, the petrol sprinkled on at least four other advocates.
