Goods train rams into passenger train in MP

Bhopal, September 20: A goods train smashed into a stationary passenger train near Guna in Madhya Pradesh early Monday, railway officials said, giving out death tolls that varied from four to nearly 10.

The accident took place at the Badarbas railway station, about 50 km from Guna, where the intercity Indore-Gwalior Express was awaiting signal.

There was a deafening sound when the goods train rammed into the passenger train.

300 aspirants cancel Hajj tour; urgent need to fill vacant seats

Hyderabad September 20 (Siasat News): Three hundred Hajj aspirants selected by the AP state Hajj committee for the Holy pilgrimage have cancelled their tour for various reasons.

According to AP State Hajj Committee, Central Hajj committee’s direction is awaited to allow other Hajj aspirants to travel on the seats vacated by 300 aspirants due to cancellation of tour.

Mr. Habeeb Uddin Ahmed Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Hajj Committee told that no direction had been issued in this regard by the Central Hajj Committee so far.

Medical staff of Gandhi Hospital suffers food poisoning

Hyderabad, September 20 (Siasat News): As many as 50 medical employees including doctors, professors and assistant professors of Gandhi Hospital landed in hospital after eating poisonous snacks.

According to sources Gandhi hospital and medical staff participated in a seminar on Saturday evening where they had taken burger, pizza and sandwiches.

The participants who had the snacks on Sunday morning suffered from vomiting. Hospital sources said that the eatables were bought from a Bakery at Padmarao Nagar, Secunderabad.

Ayurvedic hospital inaugurated

KCR Demands Telangana’s Share in Andhra Jails Dept

Hyderabad, September 20 (Siasat news): Telangana Rashtriya Samiti President K Chandhrasekhar Rao demanded that Telangana candidates be given their “justified” share in the ongoing recruitment in jails department of Andhra Pradesh, and said that government should enforce reservations immediately for the candidates belonging to Telangana. Iran ready to discuss nuclear row on ‘principals of justice’

Tehran, September 19: Iran is willing to hold talks with the international community on its contentious nuclear programme if it is “based on principles of justice and respect” and “within the legal framework”, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today.

Ahmadinejad also blamed the US for pressing the global nuclear watchdog to take political position on the nuclear row, which was making the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “worthless and ineffective”.

Jagan rues attempt to defame his late father

Ongole (AP), September 19: Congress MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy tonight alleged that there is an attempt to defame his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

“Our beloved leader Rajasekhara Reddy has occupied a permanent place in the hearts of the people with his welfare schemes. But, even after about 13 months after his death, there is an attempt to defame him. How can a dead person defend himself? If they are trying to defame a dead man, it shows the fall in political standards,” he said.

He was addressing a gathering at Addanki in Prakasam district during his ongoing Oradpuyatra.

Elaborate security in Hyderabad ahead of Ganesh immersion

Hyderabad, September 19: The city police have made elaborate security arrangements ahead of immersion of Ganesh idols and verdict on Ayodhya title suit scheduled next week.

“Whatever law and order arrangements we are making for the Ganesh idol immersion ceremony will continue till September 24 (the day verdict on Ayodhya title suit is expected). Prohibitory orders issued under Section 144 CrPc shall remain in force till the evening of September 28,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan told reporters today.

One more swine flu death in Orissa, toll 25

Cuttack, September 18: With a 10-year-old boy succumbing to swine flu, death toll due to the H1N1 virus in Orissa rose to 25 this year, health officials said.

The deceased, from Keonjhar district died last night at SCB medical college and hospital here. He was admitted to the hospital earlier this week, they added.

Sania Mirza wins her ninth doubles WTA title

Guangzhou (China), September 19: Sania Mirza today won her ninth WTA doubles title when she triumphed at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open along with Romanian partner Edina Gallovits here.

Sania and Edina beat local favourites Xinyun Han and Wanting Liu 7-5 6-3 in the summit clash of the USD 220,000 hard court event.

It was Sania’s first WTA title in 17 months as the last time she won was in April 2009 at Ponte Vedra Beach event with Taipei’s Chia-Jung Chuang.

Sania earned 280 ranking points and split USD 11,000 with Edina as prize money.

Ansari lauds communitisation programmes in Nagaland

Kigwema (Nagaland), September 19: Vice-President Hamid Ansari today lauded effective functioning of Village Development Boards in Nagaland, saying such organised structure could be a model for the rest of the country.

Sushma calls on PM; discusses situation in Uttarakhand

New Delhi, September 19: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged him to take prompt action to tackle the flood situation in Uttarakhand where major rivers and dams are in spate following incessant rains.

Swaraj discussed the matter with Singh and demanded that the Centre take immediate steps to help the state government in dealing with the emergency.

The Prime Minister assured Swaraj that he had asked Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar to look into the matter, sources said.

Firing: Police detains nearly 30 people for questioning

New Delhi, September 19: Around 30 people were today picked up by police for questioning in connection with the firing at Jama Masjid here in which two foreigners were injured.

A senior police official said they have rounded up 25-30 people who have criminal records and were questioning them to get some leads into the firing incident, apparently intended to cause terror ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Indian Mujahideen threatens Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, September 19: The Indian Mujahideen threatened to unleash violence during the Commonwealth Games in a statement issued Sunday soon after a terror attack at the Jama Masjid injured two foreigners.

While making no reference to the Jama Masjid shooting by two men on a motorcycle who escaped, a statement by the outlawed group denounced the killings of civilians in the Kashmir Valley and pledged to hit at the Commonwealth Games starting here Oct 3.

Omar govt sabotaging all-party visit: PDP

Srinagar, September 19: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday slammed the Jammu and Kashmir government alleging that it was attempting to “sabotage” the all-party delegation’s visit to the troubled state Monday by reimposing curfew in the Valley.

“The state government is bent upon sabotaging this visit…They are trying to create more anger by imposing curfew. Since the government has failed totally, they want to destroy everything as they go,” Mehbooba told reporters here a day ahead of the all-party delegation’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Ruchika case: SPS Rathore again applies for parole

New Delhi, September 19: Rathore, serving 18 month jail term for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra, has again applied for parole citing agriculture operations and failing health as the prime reasons.

68-year-old Rathore, languishing in Burail jail since May end this year, stated in his application that he wants to be released on a 42-day parole to get his agricultural equipment repaired as his tube well and tractor are lying non functional, sources said here today.

Differences in Karnataka BJP on cabinet shake-up

Bangalore, September 19: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit chief K S Eshwarappa are taking divergent stands on the cabinet reshuffle.

To iron out the differences, BJP leaders continued their discussion for a second day on Sunday on who to include and who to drop from the party’s first ministry in the state which assumed office in May 2008.

Eshwarappa favours a major shake-up by dropping three to four ministers while Yeddyurappa is for filling up the three vacancies in his ministry.

AIMPLB appeals for peace ahead of Ayodhya verdict

Hyderabad, September 19: A top representative body of Muslims today appealed to the community to respect the court verdict on Ayodhya title suit expected on September 24.

Urging the community to maintain peace on the verdict day, Acting General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Rahim Qureshi, said the AIMPLB is seized of the matter and will do whatever necessary to protect the interest of Muslims within the framework of Constitution.

New Delhi, September 19: The Central Information Commission has directed the External Affairs Ministry to “provide information” on the alleged safe passage promised to Bhopal gas tragedy accused Warren Anderson during his visit to the country in the aftermath of the world’s worst industrial disaster.

The transparency panel, acting on a complaint against the ministry, passed the order giving it time till November 30 to comply with the directive.

Release ‘illegally held’ Iranians: Ahmadinejad asks US

New York, September 19: After releasing an American hiker, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has asked Washington to respond to Tehran’s “humanitarian gesture” by setting free eight Iranians currently being held in the US.

“It would not be misplaced to ask that the US government should take a humanitarian gesture to release the Iranians who were illegally arrested and detained here in the United States,” Ahmadinejad told ABC’s ‘This Week’ programme in an interview to be broadcast later today.

Legal battle if Ayodhya suit is lost

New Delhi, September 19: Hindus locked in the legal tussle over the Ayodhya title suit will approach the Supreme Court if the Sep 24 judicial verdict goes against them, says Hindutva leader Vinay Katiyar.

But Katiyar, now a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president, still feels that an issue concerning the birthplace of Hindu Lord Ram should not have been taken to courts.

“It is a matter of faith and ‘Ram bakhts’ will seek parliament’s intervention if the outcome of the legal course on title suit is not in their favour,” Katiyar told IANS.

Petrol pump dealers defer their strike by 3 months

New Delhi, September 19: Petrol pump dealers have deferred their indefinite strike, which was slated to begin tomorrow to press their demand for an increase in commission on sales of petrol and diesel, by three months.

The strike was postponed following Oil Minister Murli Deora’s decision to form a committee to look into their demands, Federation of All-India Petroleum Traders (FAIPT) General Secretary Ajay Bansal said here.
