Maudany’s wife seeks bail relaxation to meet husband

Kochi, September 20: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany’s wife Sufiya, an accused in the 2005 Kalamassery bus burning case, Monday moved a petition for relaxation in her bail for two weeks to go and meet her husband, who too is in a jail in Bangalore.

She made the petition to the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court here. The hearing will be held Wednesday.

The special NIA court, on two occasions in the past, relaxed her bail plea for going out of Ernakulam district to meet her husband who was then holed up at the PDP headquarters in Kollam.

Andhra Pradesh cabinet stands divided on regional lines

Hyderabad, September 20: The Andhra Pradesh cabinet stands divided on regional lines with ministers accusing one another of promoting interests of their respective regions in the background of the demand for statehood to Telangana.

The ministers from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions took strong exception to some of their counterparts and also their party members of parliament (MPs) from Telangana disrupting their visits to the troubled region, sources said.

The ministers pointed fingers at one another in the presence of Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, who himself comes from Andhra region.

5 U.S. Soldiers Accused of Killing Afghan Civilians

Washington,September 20:The brutal, premeditated killings of three Afghan civilians — allegedly at the hands of American soldiers — are expected to be detailed in military court near here this fall, potentially undermining efforts by the United States as it tries to win support among Afghans in fighting the Taliban.

The cases, which accuse five members of an Army Stryker brigade from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near Tacoma, of deliberately ambushing three Afghan men with grenades and rifle fire this year, have also raised questions about how the Army has handled them.

Ayodhya: Judge issues dissenting note, favours conciliation

Lucknow, September 20: In a surprise move, one of the three judges of the Allahabad High Court’s special Ayodhya bench Monday issued a dissenting note on the order issued by his two co-judges and allowed postponement of the verdict on the long-pending Babri Masjid/Ramjanmabhoomi row.

Justice Dharma Veer Sharma also disagreed with his co-judges of the Lucknow bench of the court — Justice S.U. Khan and Justice Sudhir Aggarwal — on the question of exploring an out-of-court settlement on the issue and rooted for mediation or conciliation.

Scholarships for the year 2011-12

Hyderabad, September 12 (Siasat News): After the scholarships for the year 2010-11 has been issued by the state government, Andhra Pradesh state Minority Finance Corporation is planning to issue notification for scholarships for the year 2011-12.

According to the information received by the reliable sources notification regarding application for scholarships will be issued in the last week of September or the first week of October.

Men try to enter CM’s residence, arrested

Hyderabad, September 20(Siasat News): Two men trying to enter chief minister’s residence were arrested by the police.

Two men identified as Shiva Reddy and Krishna Reddy of Kurnool, said to be in drunken state, were trying to enter CM’s residence situated at Dharm karm road, at 8:30 when the security staff present there arrested them.

The incident is said to have taken place when chief minister was preparing to come out of his residence.

Ayodhya: 3rd judge favours out-of-court settlement

Lucknow, September 20: Justice Dharam Veer Sharma of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday passed a dissenting order against the order passed by two other judges — S U Khan and Sudhir Agarwal — against postponing the Ayodhya case verdict, on September 17.

Sharma claimed that the two judges passed the order without consulting him and there is still room for exploring the option of an out-of-court settlement.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court had on Friday refused to defer its verdict on the title suit of the disputed site at Ayodhya.

Pakistan must use flood aid responsibly-World Bank

United Nations, September 20: The World Bank and the United States urged Pakistan to take steps to reassure donor countries that it is capable of using their flood aid responsibly and transparently and that it can enact reforms.

Massive flooding in Pakistan began in late July and swept through the country, leaving an area almost the size of England under water. The United Nations has said the floods affected more than 20 million people, damaged or destroyed nearly 1.9 million homes and killed 1,700 people.

Mumbai crashed out despite 2-run win over RCB

Durban, September 20: Mumbai Indians pulled off a sensational two runs win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in a crucial Group B match here today but still got knocked out of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament on net run rate.

Thiruvananthapuram: September 20: A young Muslim girl in the Indian state of Kerala has been receiving death threats for not wearing the burqa, and instead often opting for jeans. She is an aeronautical engineer by qualification striving to get into the country’s civil services.

For Rayana R Khasi, a resident of Kasargode, 600 km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram, her problems began after she returned from Chennai city last year after completing her engineering studies and coaching classes for the civil services exam.

Rains claim 12 lives in UP

Uttar Pradesh, September 20: At least 12 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh where flood situation continued in several districts due to rise in level of major rivers.

Six persons, including a mother-daughter duo, were killed in Hardoi district, while as many deaths have been reported from Bareilly, Pilibhit, Moradabad and Rampur in wall and roof collapse incidents since Saturday, officials said here.

Wet morning, more rains in store

New Delhi, September 20: The capital saw early morning showers on Monday, leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in few areas.

According to the weather office, more rains are expected in the day.

“The sky will remain cloudy with spells of rain, one or two may be heavy,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

Delhi recorded 59.2 mm of rain from Sunday morning till 8 a.m. Monday, the met office said.

Kashmir: Curfew lifted from Poonch

Srinagar, September 20: Day curfew on Monday was lifted from border town of Poonch while it continued in violence-hit Mendhar town in Kashmir valley.

Curfew was clamped in both the places last week after violent protests over alleged burning of a holy book in the US.

“Curfew for the day has been lifted from border town of Poonch but night curfew will continue. However, curfew continues in Mendhar town”, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Poonch, Kuldeep Khajuria said,

Haryana, September 20: In view of the heavy rains in the hills of Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring Haryana, the in-flow of water at Hathnikund barrage in Yamunanagar district of Haryana has increased forcing authorities to release additional water in Yamuna river. Delhi faced fresh flood threats on Monday with nearly seven lakh cusecs of water being discharged into the Yamuna river from the Hathini Kund barrage in neighbouring Haryana.

Girl bludgeoned to death by senior

Hyderabad, September 20: A B.Tech final-year student was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by her friend, her former senior in college, at Vanasthalipuram on Sunday night.

Police speculated that it was a case of love gone unrequited.

The assailant, Sekhar, delivered multiple blows to the victim’s head with a baseball bat in his flat at Hill Colony.

Bomb scare disrupts train services in WB

West Bengal, September 20: Train services in the Kharagpur-Adra section in West Bengal were disrupted for over four hours on Monday after a tiffin box fitted with wires was found on the railway tracks in West Midnapore district.

A tiffin box with wires protruding from it was found on a railway track near Garbeta railway station in West Midnapore district on Monday morning, police said.

Mumbai, September 20: A Burqa-clad woman allegedly denied entry into Central Mumbai’s premier civic healthcare institution, the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Parel, found mention in the Indian Mujahideen’s email in which the group claimed responsibility for the attack on two foreign tourists in Delhi.

The incident was reported by an afternoon tabloid in Mumbai, the report accompanied by a photograph of 47-year-old Tanveer Fatima, who was allegedly denied entry after she refused to take off her hijab.

Musharraf wanted to hand over AQ Khan to US

Islamabad, September 20: Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had intentions of handing over nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan to the United States, former Prime Minister Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali has revealed.

Jamali said that he had summoned a cabinet meeting over the issue of the nuclear scientist and clearly told Musharraf that the government would not hand over Khan to the US, said sources.

With this issue AQ Khan appreciated on Jamali’s statement calling him gentle and honest.

Dr Khan added that Musharraf was a traitor who has sold out his own country.

Jama Masjid attackers surveyed area; Taiwanese stable

New Delhi, September 20: The gunmen who opened fire outside Delhi’s Jama Masjid Sunday, injuring two foreigners, surveyed the area at least four times, police said Monday after speaking to witnesses.

Doctors at Delhi’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital say the two Taiwanese tourists injured in the firing were now stable.

“Investigations are on,” a Delhi police official told IANS. “We are taking the investigation forward based on eyewitness accounts. We have been told that the attackers recced the area at least four times,” he said.

Newly -married woman allegedly gang-raped

Srikakulam, September 20: A newly married girl was allegedly abducted and raped by three auto-rickshaw under Kottur Police station limits late on Saturday.

According to Kottur Circle Inspector Mohan Rao, the young woman, believed to be 16-year-old woman is the wife of one Bogesh from Kuttur. She was married in August this year.

Mr Mohan Rao told INN that the girl was waiting to catch a bus to go to parent’s residence at Narsapurpeta when she was coerced by the auto-rickshaw drivers that they would drop her.

Korutla Municipal chairman dismissed for irregularities

Hyderabad, September 19: Korutla Municipal Chairman MA Gafoor was on Sunday removed from his post after a vigilance report found him involved of irregularities in the purchase of vehicles for the Corporation.

According to the order issued by Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Pushpa Subrahmaniam, Mr Gafoor was found prima facie guilty of irregularities in the purchase of tractors on behalf of the Korutla Municipality, Karimnagar.
