Flood leaves 13 dead, 34 missing in south China

Beijing, September 22: Flooding has killed at least 13 people and left 34 missing in south China’s Guangdong Province on Tuesday, local authorities said.

Heavy rains caused by typhoon Fanabi battered many parts of Guangdong Tuesday.

Further, a dam at the Xinyi Yinyan Tin Mine, owned by Zijin Mining Group Co. in Qianbai Township of Xinyi City, collapsed after being hit by a landslide, leaving five dead, six missing and seven injured, Xinxi city government officials said.

Landslides and floods also killed three, buried 12 and left three others missing in Rupingtang Township, it said.

Protect thy neighbour,’ says UP police

Lucknow, September 22: “Protect thy neighbour” is the new mantra of the Uttar Pradesh police to check any possible untoward situation in the aftermath of the verdict on the Ayodhya title suits slated to be pronounced on September 24.

Keeping in mind possibility of any trouble after the verdict is delivered on September 24, UP police is giving the responsibility of protecting the minorities to members of the majority community.

Apex court moved for deferring Ayodhya verdict

New Delhi, September 22: A retired bureaucrat Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking deferment of the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Babri Masjid/Ramnjamnabhoomi dispute in Ayodhya.

Ramesh Chandra Tripathi moved the apex court against the high court’s Friday order, turning down his plea for deferring the final verdict in the Ayodhya dispute.

The Lucknow bench of the high court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on the title suit Sep 24.

395 new Hajj aspirants selected

Hyderabad, September 22 (Siasat News): Central Hajj committee has selected 395 new Hajj aspirants through lots from Andhra Pradesh Hajj committee applied for Holy Pilgrimage. The list of additional selected 395 aspirants has been sent to AP state Hajj Committee.

Initially a quota of 6027 had been allocated to AP state Hajj committee, later central Hajj committee allocated additional quota and selected 395 Hajj aspirants from Andhra Pradesh. Details of 395 Hajj aspirants selected by Central Hajj committee can be had from the Central Hajj committee’s website www.hajcommittee.com.

Crisis in Karnataka ahead of Cabinet reshuffle

Bangalore, September 22: Ahead of Cabinet reshuffle and expansion of the 32-month-old BJP Ministry on Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa sacked three ministers, including Gulihatti D Shekar, who had threatened to commit suicide if axed.

The ministers who have been dropped are Shivana Gouda Naik (Adult Education) and Aravinda Limbaval (Higher Education) besides Shekar (Sports).

Governor HR Bhardwaj has accepted the recommendation of Yeddyurappa to drop the three ministers, a Raj Bhavan communique said.

CWG like ‘a bad joke’, says Canadian media

Toronto, September 22: The Canadian media tore India apart Tuesday, describing its Commonwealth Games preparations as “a bad joke” on the world and said India was frittering away what could have been its “showcase moment”.

“Monsoon rains, a dengue fever epidemic, car bombs, a collapsing pedestrian bridge, corrupt construction rackets, traffic Armageddon, indifferent politicians and a filthy athletes’ village that does not even have proper plumbing yet. Mind your business, India tells Pak

Srinagar, September 22: India on Tuesday reacted angrily to the resolutions passed by Pakistan’s National Assembly and Senate on Jammu and Kashmir, saying they have “no locus standi” on the internal affairs of this country.

The External Affairs Ministry said Pakistan should rather tackle issues of human rights violations, constitutional safeguards, democracy, extremism and terrorism in the part of Jammu and Kashmir under its illegal occupation.

UN chief appeals for restraint in Kashmir

Washington, September 22: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for an immediate end to violence in Kashmir and appealed for restraint by all parties.

“The Secretary-General regrets the latest loss of life. He (Ban) calls for an immediate end to violence and urges calm and restraint by all concerned,” Martin Nesirky told media persons on Wednesday, adding that Ban was “closely following events”.

The Kashmir Valley remains under a relaxed curfew after months of persistent clashes between demonstrators and security personnel, which have claimed more than 100 lives.

All-party team concludes Jammu-Kashmir visit

Srinagar, September 22: A 39-member all-party delegation Wednesday concluded its three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and flew back to New Delhi in a special plane from here, an official source said.

The team led by union Home Minister P. Chidambaram arrived in Jammu Tuesday after spending one and a half days in Srinagar.

The delegation, which visited the state to get a sense of the ground situation before deciding on steps to defuse tensions, met a cross section of people here, including political groups and Kashmiri Hindu migrants and traders.

Kadapa Mayor blames Jagan, CM, Babu for his woes

Hyderabad, September 21: In a surprise development, Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy named Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as one of the three leaders in the state who were making life difficult for him, the other two being chief minister K Rosaiah and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu. This they were doing because they were propelled by the desire to become the chief minister of the state, he said.

Ravindranath Reddy is the brother-in-law of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Murder accused fatally stabbed in Andhra court

Hyderabad, September 21: A man accused in a murder case was stabbed to death in a court premises in Andhra Pradesh Tuesday.

Kondaiah, who was brought by police to the court for the murder case hearing, was stabbed and killed in full public view in the court complex in Miryalguda town of Nalgonda district, about 150 km from here.

Police said the attacker fled after killing the youth. The incident sent panic among litigants and lawyers at the court.

KCR colluded with U-folk, says Kaka

CPI men besiege mayor’s plant

Hyderabad, September 21: CPI today demanded the state government government to arrest Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy, brother-in-law of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, for the alleged irregularities in the fertiliser mixer plants owned by him.

A large number of CPI activists today besieged Harita fertiliser plant owned by Ravindranath Reddy at Akireddypally in Keesara in Rangareddy district. Mild tension prevailed at the plant premises. The police arrested party state secretary K Narayana and several other activists whom they released later.

PRP man injured in lahicharge, Chiranjeevi angry

Vishakapatnam, September 21: A Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) activist was critically injured after police whipped out their lathis to disperse a group of protestors, who had been on a hunger strike over alleged irregularities in rehabilitating people ousted by the Anrak alumina refinery project, in Makavarapalem on Monday.

The condition of the PRP worker identified as Mapada Srinu was said to be extremely critical. He was rushed to the Care hospital here for treatment.

Another party man, Peddinaidu, was also seriously injured but was out of danger.

TDP hits out at Kolusu Parthasarathi

Vijayawada, September 21: Telugu Desam leaders of Krishna district today came down heavily on minister for animal husbandry Kolusu Parthasarathi for his reported personal remark against district TDP president and Mylavaram MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao.

Cop booked for voyeurism in Guntur

Guntur, September 21: The Nagarampalem police today registered a case against V Basavaiah, an escort constable of Guntur urban SP, for behaving indecently with a neighbouring woman.

It was alleged that the constable was peeping into the bathroom of his neighbours from his building while a woman was taking a bath.

The woman’s husband Yedukondalu lodged a complaint with the police against Basavaiah.

Sub-inspector B Koteswara Rao is investigating.

Jilted Home Guard attempts suicide

Kadapa, September 21: A 27-year-old Home Guard, Ravishankar, who was posted at the Road Transport Authority’s office here, attempted suicide in the small hours of Monday.

According to the police, Ravishankar, who hails from Khajipeta, has been in love with a girl from Proddatur, who also happens to be a relative of him, for three years.

When his proposal was not accepted by the girl, he resorted to the extreme step.

Ravishankar, who has been on duty at the RTA office for the past one month, performed his duty till the midnight and, thereafter, consumed 55 sleeping pills.

Congress MPs toeing TRS line, Ministers upset

Hyderabad, September 21: Several Telangana ministers reportedly took strong exception to the remarks made by some Congress MPs from the region on issues related to Telangana advocates and Group-I preliminary examination.

At today’s cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister K Rosaiah, Danam Nagender raised objection to Telangana Congress MPs making statements which were against the state government and the party’s interests.

Ganesh immersion: 14 die, four go missing

Vijayawada, September 21: Fourteen persons met with a watery grave in Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts and four others were found missing while participating in the Ganesh immersion procession today.

Six persons were feared drowned in a village tank while immersing the Lord in Gollanapalli village in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district,

Four others were missing and their bodies are yet to be traced.

The deceased were identified as Nageswara Rao, Jamalaiah, Daniel, Ch Prasad, Ganesh and Ashok. The villagers fished out the bodies of six

persons from the tank.

Congress groups clash over YSR statue

Chittor, September 21: Tension prevailed at Pakala today following a face-off between two Congress groups over installation of YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s statue at the bus stand circle.

A group led by Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy arrived at Pakala for getting the MRO’s permission for the installation of YSR statue at the bus stand circle. When the official refused permission, they tried to take up hunger strike to make the district administration concede their demand.
