Mayawati should have called all-party meeting on Ayodhya: Rita

Jaunpur, September 22: Accusing Mayawati government for trying to create controversy by blaming the Centre for not providing ‘enough’ Central forces to strenghten security in the state in the wake of Ayodhya title suit verdict due on September 24, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Rita Bahuguna Joshi today said efforts should be made for communal harmony by calling an all-party meet on the issue.

”Had Chief Minister Mayawati been serious on the issue, she would have convened an all-party meeting to discuss the issue,” she alleged.

Blast in Iran

Tehran, September 22: An explosion in the Iranian city of Mahabad killed nine people and wounded dozens today, Iranian Arabic language television Al-Alam reported.

Stringent punishments for hate-SMS circulators: DCP

Hyderabad, September 22: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) J Satyanarayana on Wednesday warned that persons who circulate any SMS which spreads rumours or hatred between communities would be severely punished.

Appealing to the general public not to believe any hate-SMS, especially during the Ganesh Visarjan procession and the forthcoming verdict of the Babri Masjid title suit slated for September 24, Mr Satyanarayana said that circulators of such messages would be imprisoned and also fined.

Aus TV channel sting totally bogus: Delhi Police

New Delhi, September 22: The Delhi Police today termed as “totally bogus, motivated and deliberately planted” a sting operation carried out by an Australian television channel claiming that there was a security breach at the main Commonwealth Games venue of Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium.

Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said the sting operation was “totally bogus and incorrect” and the reporter was trying to create a false impression of security breach by walking from barricades placed on the main road near the stadium which were only meant to divert vehicles.

Ayodhya petitioner moves SC

New Delhi, September 22: Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, whose petition for deferring the judgement in Ayodhya Babri Masjid land dispute case was dismissed by the Allahabad High Court with a fine of Rs 50,000, today moved the Supreme Court against the High Court judgement.

Mr Tripathi, in his petition which is likely to be mentioned for urgent hearing before the apex court today, has contended that the court verdict may lead to serious law and order problem and may also disturb the communal harmony in the country, particularly in UP.

False ceiling in Nehru Stadium collapses, no injuries

New Delhi, September 22: A portion of a false ceiling at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the Commonwealth Games, collapsed here Wednesday, a day after a foot overbridge near the stadium came crashing down. No one was injured.

Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandreshekhar told television channels that the collapse was not an issue to be “worried about”.

Mentally challenged man shoots dead five in Pakistan

Islamabad, September 22: A mentally challenged man Wednesday went on a shooting spree in a Pakistani town, killing five men and leaving two seriously injured.

The shooting incident took place in Hangu town in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

The wounded have been taken to hospital and doctors said that their chances of survival were bleak, Online reported citing a TV channel.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Til Mir Chaman said the man opened fire in a compound in Dar Samand area of Hangu. Five people were killed on the spot and two were seriously hurt.

Canada’s first Indian-origin woman minister dead

Vancouver, September 22: New Delhi-born Sindi Hawkins (earlier Satinder Kaur Ahluwalia), who became the first Indian-origin provincial minister in Canada, died in Calgary Tuesday after a prolonged battle with leukemia.

The 52-year-old Sikh woman represented the constituency of Kelowna-Mission in the British Columbia provincial assembly from 1996 till last year when she pulled out of the fray because of her illness.

Thousands of idols from different parts of the state capital and its outskirts headed towards Hussain Sagar Lake in the heart of the city.

Wakf Board gets new CEO

Hyderabad, September 22: Mohammed Habeebuddin Ahmed on Tuesday took over charge as the Chief Executive Officer of the state Muslim Wakf Board.

A former Deputy Secretary (Minority Welfare), Mr Ahmed also holds the additional charge of the Haj Committee Executive Officer.

Mr Ahmed’s name was proposed by the government and the Wakf Board accepted the proposal, thus making his appointment unanimous.

A GO was issued by the state government on Tuesday, confirming Mr Ahmed’s name as the CEO.

Gunmen attack Indonesian police, kill 3, after raid

Indonesia, September 22: More than a dozen gunmen on motorcyles attacked a police station in western Indonesia on Wednesday, killing three officers, in an apparent revenge attack after police raided a nearby Islamic militant group.

The gunmen were believed to have links to a militant group that ran a training camp in Aceh, in northern Sumatra island, and that had planned to stage a coup against President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, a police spokesman said.

Israel considers referendum on peace deal with Palestinians

Jerusalem, September 22: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he is considering to put any possible peace agreement with the Palestinians to a national referendum.

“It is clear to me that any agreement that I will bring will be brought to the nation for a decision, and there are a number of ways to do that,” Netanyahu was quoted as saying Tuesday by a local daily, Xinhua reported.

Speaking during a tour to southern Israel’s Ashkelon and Sderot, Netanyahu also warned the Islamic Hamas movement not to fire rockets into Israeli territories.

Medical teams to be deployed at Ganesh immersion procession

Hyderabad, September 22 (Siasat News): District Medical and Health Office Hyderabad has deployed Medical officers, Para medical staff and ambulances on large scale on the occasion of Ganesh immersion procession.

According to Dr. jaya Lakshmi District Medical and Health officer worker teams will also be present with DMOH doctors and there will also be two ANM, one Aaya and one attender.

The teams will work from 8 to 2 in one shift and from 2 to 8 in another shift. Doctors will also be available with their teams and ambulances in the middle of Tankbund.
