Ayodhya verdict: Cops checking mood of city

Hyderabad, September 23: More than a fortnight ago, when the sleuths carried out a random survey covering nearly a 100 places of worship of different communities across Hyderabad to get the pulse of what they thought about the September 24 verdict on the title suit of Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue, they heaved a sigh of relief as the survey showed that not many had serious concerns about the outcome of the verdict.

Yamuna poses threat; flows 2.15 m above danger mark in Delhi

New Delhi, September 23: Yamuna river acquired menacing proportions as the water level of the river in Delhi reached 206.98 metres, 2.15 metres above the danger mark, as more water was released from the Hathinikund barrage in Haryana, increasing the flood threat to the capital.

According to Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control department, at around 1200 hrs, yesterday the water level of the river had crossed the 206 metre mark and was flowing 2.15 metres above the danger mark.

Blast at Andhra hospital, none hurt

Hyderabad, September 23: A blast took place in a hospital owned by an environmental activist at Sompeta in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district. No one was injured but a portion of the hospital was damaged, police said.

The blast occurred on the third floor of Mahalakshmi Nursing Home. There was still no word from the police about the nature of explosives used and who could be behind the attack.

Ganesh immersion turns tragic, three drowned in Sirpur town

Hyderabad, September 23 (Siasat News): Ganesh idol immersion turned tragic on September 22 as three youth drowned during Ganesh immersion process.

Three youth drowned during the Ganesh immersion on Wednesday at Chintakunta village in Sirpur (T) mandal. J Tirupati, Ajmera Dinesh, and Ajmera Naresh drowned in a local pond while they were participating in Ganesh idol immersion.

Assistant sub inspector of police, Sirpur town, Mr. Abdul Qayyum went to the place of incident and after retrieving the bodies handed over to the successors.

Hyderabad, September 23 (Siasat News): Police and residents of the city heaved a sigh of relief as the Ganesh immersion procession organized by Bhagya nagar Ganesh utsav samithi ended peacefully. No untoward incident has been reported during the procession. People had great apprehensions about the peaceful conclusion of the procession which happened to be just two days ahead of Lukhnow bench verdict to be pronounced on Friday.

Ayodhya, September 23: Muslim artisans here continue to make floral decorations for Hindu devotees, weaving bonds of communal harmony at a time when all eyes are on this ancient town ahead of a much-awaited court verdict Friday on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit contested by Hindu and Muslim groups.

Around 15 Muslim families in the Asharfi Bhawan area of Ayodhya, some 150 km from Lucknow, have been involved in making floral garlands and decorative offerings for Hindu devotees for the last several decades.

Iranian journalist receives six-year jail term for interview

Tehran, September 23: The Iranian judiciary sentenced journalist and human rights activist Emadeddin Baqi to a six-year jail term for conducting an interview with an ayatollah, opposition websites reported Wednesday.

According to the websites, Baqi was convicted Tuesday by a revolutionary court in Tehran on charges of spreading propaganda against the establishment and a national security breach.

Secretariat staffer, cop involved in drug racket

Hyderabad, September 22: Two of the eight persons arrested in the drug racket that was busted by the prohibition and excise department in the city yeterday turned out to be a city constable and a Secretariat employee. The constable, D Bhagyaraj of Gudimalkapur, is attached with the Jubilee Hills police of the West Zone who recently busted a drug racket involving the brothers of actor Ravi Teja. Another accused, Ranganathan, owner of RS Enterprises at Nandinagar in Banjara Hills, is absconding.

Rain-soaked wall collapses on house

Hyderabad, September 22: A rain-soaked wall collapsed on a tin-roofed house at Banjara Hills on Tuesday, killing a woman and injuring three others. Among the injured is an eight-month-old baby who is battling for life.

Around 3.30 p.m, a 20 feet compound wall of an open place in Singadikunta locality on Banjara Hills road no 10 crashed after heavy rains lashed the city. The rubble fell on a tin roof of an adjacent house which collapsed.

College girls fear their building may collapse

Hyderabad, September 22: Cut back to August 16 when three persons died in a building collapse at Poosala Basti in Saidabad. A few days later, another building collapsed at Phoolbagh in Chandrayangutta where three children died.

It seems that authorities are waiting for yet another disaster to happen. And next in line of danger is the Moulana Azad Memorial Government Model Junior college (MAMGMJC), Nampally where 1500 students are studying.

TRS cadre divided over KCR’s ‘love’ remarks

TTD to discuss ticket scam report on October 4

Tirupati, September 22: The TTD Specified Authority will discuss the vigilance department’s report on the Arjita Seva ticket booking scam at a meeting to be held on October 4.

Speaking with newsmen at the TTD Administrative Building here today, executive officer IYR Krishna Rao, however, refused to say more on the matter. When asked about reviving dal-and-ghee as Srivari Annaprasadam, Rao said that they proposed to introduce northern cuisine such as roti instead of dal-and-ghee keeping in view the eating habits of pilgrims coming from northern states.

Ramalinga Raju seeks postponement of trial

Hyderabad, September 22: Citing technical reasons, the counsel for the accused in the Satyam Computer Services (SCS) fraud today requested the 21st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court to postpone the trial until the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) completes it’s investigation.

CBI public prosecutor K Surender, however, opposed the plea. The magistrate reserved the decision for Friday after directing the public prosecutor to submit in writing mentioning the reasons for opposition.

CPI men besiege mayor’s plant

Hyderabad, September 22: CPI today demanded the state government government to arrest Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy, brother-in-law of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, for the alleged irregularities in the fertiliser mixer plants owned by him.

A large number of CPI activists today besieged Harita fertiliser plant owned by Ravindranath Reddy at Akireddypally in Keesara in Rangareddy district. Mild tension prevailed at the plant premises. The police arrested party state secretary K Narayana and several other activists whom they released later.

Youth slashes girl’s throat at Internet cafe

Vishakapatnam, September 22: In yet another case of harassment for love, a boy slashed a girl’s throat with blade at an Internet cafe at Seethampeta in the city today after she refused to reciprocate his love.

Praveen of Anakapalle had been mentally harassing the girl Y Sirisha, a resident of Allipuram in the city, from the past one year. Sirisha is pursuing final year engineering at Sri Prakash Engineering College at Tuni, East Godavari district. The accused also studied in the same college and completed engineering this year.

Oswals to set up fertiliser plant in AP

Hyderabad, September 22: Oswal Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited, a pioneer in fertiliser plants, has evinced interest in setting up a fertiliser plant with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore in the state.

The fertiliser unit with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million ton urea will be based on natural gas. The company has also proposed to establish a one million ton capacity di-ammonium phosphate plant with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.

Economy showing promise of double digit growth: Patil

Kolkata, September 22:President Pratibha Patil Wednesday said the Indian economy is showing promise of a double-digit growth and called for concerted efforts on the part of all stakeholders to make it sustainable and inclusive.

“As the impact of the meltdown is wearing off, our economy is showing a healthy 8.5 percent rate, with the promise of a double digit growth,” Patil said after inaugurating the 37th National Management Convention organised by the All India Management Association here.
