Six dead in suspected Philippine clan war: Police

Manila, September 23: Six members of a family were killed and two other relatives wounded in an attack linked to a suspected clan war in the southern Philippines, police said on Thursday.

Gunmen opened fire on the victims’ house on the island of Jolo late Wednesday, said provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Joseph Ramac, adding: “This is a ‘rido’ (clan war).”

Police are investigating the possible involvement of a neighbour who had accused a relative of the targeted family of rape and arson.

Pak asks India to stop treating Kashmir as its integral part

Islamabad, September 23: Upping the ante, Pakistan on Thursday said there can be no result-oriented discussions with India on the Kashmir unless New Delhi stops treating it as the country’s integral part and seeking a solution within the ambit of the Indian Constitution.

Typhoon Fanapi kills 54 in China

Beijing, September 23: Typhoon Fanapi, one of the strongest storms to hit China in years, has left 54 people dead and 42 missing in flooding and landslides in the south of the country, state media said Thursday.

Xinhua news agency said 79,000 people had been evacuated due to Fanapi, which hit China on Monday a day after raking Taiwan with heavy rains, killing two people and leaving more than 100 injured on the island.

All of China’s deaths occurred in the southern province of Guangdong, which has been battered by its worst rains in a century, it said.

Gaza flotilla report: Israeli interception ‘unlawful’

New York, September 23: An investigative report Wednesday from the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva said that Israel’s military interception of a flotilla of aid ships bound for the Gaza Strip in May was ‘clearly unlawful’ and violent.

The report from Geneva is separate from an investigation ordered by the UN Security Council in New York following the May 31 incident on the high seas off Gaza, in which eight Turkish nationals and one Turkish American were killed during the Israeli interception.

Couple sacrificed in black magic ritual

Chittoor, September 23: In a macabre incident, two persons were killed in an apparent sacrifice as part of a black-magic ritual under Nagari Police station limits in Chittoor district during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Inspector Surender Reddy, the two victims were identified as Swamynadhan (59) and his second wife Parimal Gandhi. The bodies were discovered on the banks of a lake near the Nagari Railway station in Chittoor on Thursday with their throats slit. Police believe that the couple were slaughtered as part of a sacrificial ritual.

Man killed by brother after stabbing him

Hyderabad, September 23: A meeting, held to arrive at a compromise between family members over the sharing of their property, went horribly wrong when one of them was killed by his brother under Chatrinaka police station limits early on Thursday.

According to Inspector Shyam Prasad Rao, Padma Rao (50) a resident of Balapur, had come to the residence of his brother Jangaiah at Naraharinagar in Uppuguda, to arrive at a settlement over sharing of their properties, as the dispute had been going on since the past 15 years.

Couple Attempts Suicide At Tirumala

Tirumala, September 23: A couple made an attempt to commit suicide in the holy town of Lord Venkateswara here on Thursday.

According to police, one Narasimhulu and his wife Ramanamma tried to commit suicide at the Silathoranam. They were rushed to the local Aswini Hospital as their condition was stated to be serious.

Police said that debt problem could be the reason for the couple resorting to the extreme step. (NSS)

3-Year-Old Boy Kidnapped In Hospital

Kurnool, September 23: A three-year old boy was kidnapped from the government hospital in Yemmiganur near here on Thursday.

According to police, the boy Ramcharan was brought to the hospital by his parents for treatment to the hospital. While he was undergoing treatment, he was kidnapped by some unidentified miscreants. The incident created sensation in this small town.

Congress welcomes court decision to defer Ayodhya verdict

New Delhi, September 23: The Congress party Thursday welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to defer Allahabad high court’s judgment in the Ayodhya temple-mosque dispute by a week.

Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi told reporters here that the “party respected the decision by the Supreme Court”.

“Congress party’s primary view is that issues like the Ayodhya dispute should be solved through dialogue between the concerned parties and communities,” Dwivedi said.

Man, flapping wings, makes 20-sec flying history

Toronto, September 23: A man-powered aircraft with flapping wings made aviation history by becoming the first of its kind to fly continuously for almost 20 seconds.

The “Snowbird” performed its record-breaking flight Aug 2 at the Great Lakes Gliding Club in Tottenham in Ontario, Canada, in the presence of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the world-governing body for air sports and aeronautical world records.

The official record claim was filed this month, and the FAI is expected to confirm the ornithopter’s world record at its meeting in October.

Around 6,000 people have died since December 6, 1992 when a mob of Hindu activists destroyed a 16th century mosque known as Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

The mosque was built by Mughal emperor Babur’s lieutenant Mir Baqi in 1528. Hindus contend that the mosque was built after destroying a temple. They also claim that the very spot where the mosque once stood is the birthplace of Ram, a Hindu deity worshipped by millions.

Court defers Ayodhya verdict till Sep 28

Lucknow, September 23: The Supreme Court on Thursday has pushed back the verdict on the Ayodhya verdict by at least week.

The verdict by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court was to be delivered tomorrow.

The matter was heard by a Bench headed by Justice R V Raveendran.

Apex court issues notices to contesting parties on the petition seeking stay on the Allahabad High Court order, which refused to defer the verdict in the suit.

Ayodhya: Rosaiah appeals to maintain peace

London, September 23: More than 200 million people play games on Facebook every month, according to the social networking site’s founder Mark Zuckerberg.
