Flood disrupts life in Delhi,UP and U’Khand

Uttarakhand, September 24: The flood has created havoc in the North India especially in the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The traffic flow has stopped on busy route like Saraswall Kund which links Delhi-Mathura, due to flood water on the roads. The administration have placed barrier on the roads for security.

Aim to raise enrolment in education: Prez

New Delhi, September 24: The President Pratibha Patil on Friday said that India plans to increase enrolment in higher education from the present 14 million to about 40 million.

“Higher education has been accorded priority in our country. It is our aim to increase gross enrolment ratio in higher education to 30 percent by the year 2020, which means almost tripling the enrolment from the present 14 million to about 40 million,” Patil said here at the the sixth convocation of the Mizoram University.

Australia, New Zealand confirm participation

Australia, September 24: Giving thumps up to the Commonwealth games village, the Australia and New Zealand teams on Friday confirmed their participation in the mega event.

Earlier, the filthy, uninhabitable condition of the games village and the threat of terror strike in India were keeping their participation doubtful.

The Australian Olympic Committee had even questioning the wisdom behind awarding the event to Delhi.

But after the Australian Commonwealth games Association chief Perry Crosswhite on Friday morning visited the village, he appeared happy with the facilities.

Afridi may comeback in Test cricket

Islamabad, September 24: Pakistan’s experienced allrounder Shahid Afridi has hinted at making yet another Test return after ending his previous comeback in a hurry in July.

Afridi, Pakistan’s One-day captain, came out of a four-year Test exile to lead Pakistan against Australia at Lord’s two months back but decided to retire from the longest format after losing that match by a heavy margin.

However, Afridi told reporters here in the wee hours Friday that he can consider coming back for the Tests if ‘needed’ by his team.

Fennell satisfied with CWG village

New Delhi, September 24: Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell inspected the Commonwealth Games Village and said “considerable improvements” have been made for the October 3-14 event.

“It is good to be in Delhi, and the briefing I received from my CEO, Mike Hooper,on Thursday was that considerable improvements have been made within the Village, with further significant resources deployed by Delhi Chief Minister, Mrs Dikshit, to make good what was a concerning situation,” Fennell said in a statement.

Employees’ Chalo Hyderabad protest deferred

Hyderabad, September 24: State government employees on Friday announced that the proposed ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ call on September 25 has been deferred after a Group of Ministers has agreed to hold consultations with the Joint Action Committee of State Government Employees on the recommendations of the Ninth Pay Revision Commission.

According to Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers, Workers and Pensioners, the planned march to Hyderabad was deferred following an assurance by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Pay Revision Commission Recommendations to address their demands in 15 days.

Satyam Case Adjourned To Sept. 29; Accused’s Petition For Halt Of Trial Rejected

Hyderabad, September 24: The CBI Special Court at Nampally here on Friday dismissed a petition filed by three accused in the Satyam Computers scam case seeking halt to the trial till completion of the investigation by the CBI. The accused Vadlamani Srinivas, Venkatapati Raju and Srisailam have petitioned to the Special Court halt the trial of the case till the CBI filed its fourth charge-sheet in the case.

Mumbai, September 24: Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s bat along with Memorabilia belonging to other top sportspersons from India and overseas will go under the auctioneer’s hammer on October 29 in Mumbai.

According to a media report, Memorabilia belonging to 25 top sportspersons from India and overseas, including tennis star Roger Federer, batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and chess ace Viswanathan Anand, will be on auction conducted by actor Rahul Bose’s NGO ‘The Foundation’ in Mumbai.

Court reserves order on Tiwari’s appeal in paternity suit

New Delhi, September 24: The Delhi High Court Friday reserved its order on former Andhra Pradesh governor N.D. Tiwari’s plea contesting its single judge’s decision to impose on him Rs.75,000 in costs in a paternity suit slapped by a man claiming to be his biological son.

A bench of Justice Vikramjeet Sen and Justice Mukta Gupta reserved the order after hearing arguments from counsel of both Tiwari and Rohit Shekhar, who claims to be Tiwari’s son.

Naidu’s ‘day dreaming’ remark evokes protests in Telangana

Hyderabad, September 24: Activists of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) were staging protests across Telangana Friday, demanding an apology from former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for his remark that TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao was “day-dreaming”.

Naidu, chief of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), remarked Thursday that Chandrasekhara Rao was “day-dreaming” about wielding power — apparently in a separate Telangana state.

The comment angered the TRS which is spearheading the renewed struggle for statehood to Telangana region.

Six crude bombs recovered from Vadodara

Hyderabad, September 24: The Telangana Rastra Samiti chief, Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao told reporters that Vijayashanthi and he met for an hour and have agreed to work together to achieve Telangana.

He added that he had no differences with her and the problems cropped up due to “mis-communication” which has been resolved now through open discussions. He described Vijayashanthi as his “10th sister”. The TRS chief already has nine sisters.

People in Ayodhya want early disposal of the case

Ayodhya, September 24: The stay on the pronouncement of the Ayodhya title suits verdict might have brought a respite to law enforcing agencies, but people in Ayodhya say it has only prolonged their woes and they want an early disposal of the case.

“Though the traffic on the roads is looking almost normal and the markets have opened, the uncertainty in the air is continuing and for the people here it would have been better had the verdict been pronounced today itself,” Dr Anil Singh, a professor at Saket Degree College here, said.

Ayodhya verdict deferred: Schools, colleges reopen

Lucknow, September 24: Various schools and colleges, who had earlier decided to close their institutions for some days in view of the verdict on the Ayodhya title suits by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, have cancelled the holidays as the judgement has been deferred by the apex court.

“The teaching and other activities will be carried out as usual in the Lucknow University campus,” University spokesman Prof S K Dwivedi said.

Similarly, other schools have also announced to cancel the holidays declared by them.

Dressing table of Nizam’s wife to be auctioned

Hyderabad, September 24: A triple-mirrored dressing table dating back to the 1930s and belonging to one of the wives of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, is to be auctioned off by the Austin Auction Company in Texas later this week.

The dressing table is fitted with a key lock safe and 30-piece vanity set of sterling silver and cut glass, and was entirely custom-made by London’s exclusive Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co. Ltd.

BJP to react on Ayodhya only after the verdict

New Delhi, September 24: The BJP yesterday declined to comment on the Supreme Court order asking the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court to defer its judgment in the Ayodhya title suit case till September 28 and said it would react on the issue only after the order is passed.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters the BJP will not comment on the issue till the verdict on the title suit on the disputed structure was pronounced.

Boulders on track, providential escape for train passengers

Hyderabad, September 24: Thanks to the timely alert issued by a train driver about placing of a boulder on the tracks, passengers of the Hyderabad-Kerala express had a provindential escape this morning.

Reports received at the police headquarters here said miscreants placed a huge boulder on the tracks between Ingur and Vijayamangalam stations at Velayuthampalayam on the Erode-Tiruppur section of the Southern Railway.

The incident happened minutes before the Kerala-bound train was to pass the stretch.

Naidu reprimands TDP corporators

Hyderabad, September 24 (Siasat News): TDP has expressed discontent over the performance of TDP corporators of GHMC.

Calling TDP corporators TDP president Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu showed his resentment on keeping silent on non-functioning of GHMC and instructed them to protest for the sorry state of affairs of the city.

He asked them to solve the problems like lack of sanitation, the condition of the city roads, improper lighting systems, and various other civic problems by protesting against the municipal corporation.

Widow of Pakistani leader appeals for help

London, September 24: The widow of a Pakistani politician murdered in London Thursday appealed for witnesses to come forward with information about his killers.

Shumaila Farooq, widow of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq, Thursday broke down at a news conference, describing her husband as “a dedicated family man, a loving father and a loving husband”, Sky News reported.
