Chargesheet says ex-principal raped student

Hyderabad, September 25: The chargesheet filed by the Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths in the case pertaining to the alleged rape of a student by the former principal of Parkwood School International, MS Ayub, says that Ayub raped the class XI student and even attempted to force himself on other students.

The chargesheet which was filed in the court yesterday, just stops short of describing Ayub as a paedophile.

“The sexual exploitation of the girl is proved. He also tried to exploit other girls including the one from Korea on whom he attempted rape,” sources in the CCS said.

US to get anti-terror tips from India

Hyderabad, September 25: Stating the Indian security forces were well-trained and work with great commitment and professionalism, regional security officer of the US Consulate Robert A Rentz said on Friday that their American counterparts were keen to learn from them and take a few tips on tackling terrorism in their nation.

Quoting the work done during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the Tsunami and Bhuj earthquake in Gujarat, he said the US would like to take tips from the police, paramilitary forces and the Army on effective ways to deal with terrorism.

Suicide bid by man at Osmania University

Hyderabad, September 25: A 28 year old person created a flutter by attempting suicide near the NCC gate of Osmania University (OU) tonight. The youngster, who is said to be in an inebriated condition, reportedly raised Jai Telangana slogans.

According to police and locals, “The youngster, around 10 pm, doused himself in kerosene and tried to light himself up with a match stick but it did not fire.

Meanwhile, locals went to his rescue and foiled his attempts.” He allegedly shouted ‘Danam Nagender Down Down’ and ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans, Nallakunta police said.

CID submits report to DGP on MK Singh

Hyderabad, September 25: The state Crime Investigation Department (CID), which conducted an enquiry into the allegations against IPS officer MK Singh, today submitted the report to director general of police K Aravinda Rao. The report would be forwarded to the state government in the next couple of days.

Sources told Express that the enquiry was conducted based on the directions of the court.

The allegations range from misappropriation of funds in construction of a kalyana mandapam and an apartment complex for police officials while Singh was posted as SP of Krishna district.

Vijayawada, September 25: Former minister Simhadri Satyanarayana died after a brief illness here today. He was 82. Simhadri Satyanarayana had held various ministries like endowments and excise during the tenure of former chief minister N T Rama Rao. The bond between the two was such that many a time NTR described Simhadri as one of his best friend in politics. He represented Avanigadda Assembly segment in Krishna district for several terms.

Police lathicharge: One more PRP man dies

Vishakapatnam, September 25: Praja Rajyam Party activist Mopada Srinu (38), who was allegedly injured in police lathicharge at Makavarapalem in the district on Monday died at a corporate hospital here this evening, taking the toll to two.

Yesterday, Ruttala Peddi Naidu, who was under treatment at the same hospital for injuries he allegedly sustained in the same lathicharge died.

Government likely to lift cases against students

Hyderabad, September 25: The State government appears to be favourably inclined to lift cases registered against students who took part in agitations for and against bifurcation of the State.

A formal announcement is likely next week after examination of the proposal for lifting of cases by the Law Department of the State government.

Doctors suspend work in Kolkata

Kolkata, September 25: Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital
Work was suspended by the junior doctors of Kolkata’s Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital on Saturday after some of them were assaulted by the relatives of an accident victim who died during treatment.

“We have decided to go for suspension of work. Whenever a patient dies, the relatives of the patient come and beat us up. This is not done, we are also human beings,” said a junior doctor of the hospital.

“Whenever a patient comes to the hospital we do our level best to treat him or her,” the junior doctor said.

Flood threat recedes in Delhi

New Delhi, September 25: The water level in the Yamuna river on Saturday started going down and is expected to recede further during the day.

This has come as a respite for the residents of low-lying areas along the banks of the Yamuna in Delhi, who have been living in flooded homes or under the flood threat.

The reversal of drainage water and overflowing Yamuna caused severe water-logging in these areas.

Many low-lying areas were inundated and people in areas like Mukherjee Nagar and Civil Lines even used boats for plying.

Curfew relaxed in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, September 25: Curfew was relaxed in areas of Srinagar and other towns of the Kashmir Valley in a phased manner on Saturday afternoon.

“In uptown areas of Srinagar city, curfew has been relaxed from 12 noon onwards and the relaxation will continue if the law and order situation remains peaceful,” a senior police officer said here.

He also said curfew would be relaxed from the old city areas as well in a phased manner.

“Orders have already been passed for curfew relaxation in other towns of the valley,” the officer said.

AIMPLB to move SC on deferment

New Delhi, September 25: As the Supreme Court has formed a three-judge special bench to hear the plea of deferment of the Ayodhya title suit verdict, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has said it will move the Supreme Court to oppose the Ramesh Chandra Tripathi’s application.

AIMPLB’s working committee member Qasim Rasool Illiyas said that several efforts had been made in past to find out amicable solution but no results were found.

He said that AIMPLB would also move an application in the SC against plea of Ramesh Chandra Tripathi.

Chavan allays industry fears on nuclear bill

Mumbai, September 25: Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Prithviraj Chavan Saturday dismissed apprehensions that the terms of a law on nuclear suppliers’ liability in case of an accident would discourage investment in the nuclear energy sector.

He said that the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010 was prepared on a set of internationally-accepted principles in the civil liability jurisprudence. It was modelled in a way that compensation-related problems like seen in the case of the Bhopal gas tragedy are not repeated.

Ayodhya verdict: SC forms 3 judges bench

New Delhi, September 25: A Special three judges bench of the Supreme Court will hear the deferment plea of Ayodhya verdict on September 28.

The three-bench comprising Chief Justice of India SH Kapadia, Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Radhakrishnan will take up the plea, seeking deferment of Ayodhya/Babri Masjid verdict.

Earlier, the apex court had stayed the Special bench of Allahabad High Court long awaited verdict by one week till September 28.

The court passed the stay order on a reconciliation plea filed by a retired bureaucrat Ramesh Chandra Tripathi.

Chief Minister urges Sikhs to maintain peace in Haryana

Youths cause trouble on Taif, Madina roads

Taif/Madina, September 25: Police in Taif have completed legal procedures to refer 100 young men to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution for creating disorder and chaos during National Day celebrations.

Sources said the young men were arrested after they caused trouble and disrupted the flow of traffic and did not respond to calls and pleas by security men to behave themselves.

AP judge clears 260 cases in one day, sets a record

Hyderabad, September 25: The record set by Mangalagiri judge JVV Satyanarayana Murthy on August 17 this year, by disposing of 111 cases in a day seems to be an inspiration. Yesuratnam, a junior civil judge in Venkatagiri division disposed of 260 cases on Friday. The judge said the cases were pending since 2002.

However, Justice Hosbet Suresh, retired judge of the Bombay HC said, “Such records are meaningless if the cases haven’t been effectively dealt with. Number of disposals cannot be a criteria for the quality of a judge.”

India wants to keep Pakistan engaged in talks

New Delhi, September, 25: Amid the possibility of a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi early next week, Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on Friday stressed there was no alternative to talks with Pakistan and said he was ready to discuss all issues, including Kashmir.
