HC to publish Ayodhya verdict on special website

Lucknow, September 29: Allahabad High Court, which is set to deliver its Ayodhya title suit verdict involving the 60-year old Ram Temple-Babri Masjid dispute on Thursday, Sep 30, plans on making the judgment available to the people through the internet.

Warning the media against speculating the outcome of the Ayodhya title suit, the High Court announced that special website will be made available on which the gist of the issues, the operational part of the order and the final judgment would be published.

Hyderabad, September 29: Information technology (IT) solutions provider FirstObject Technologies Limited Tuesday said it has entered into an agreement with optical media giant Moser Baer India Limited for launching its e-education content on DVDs and USB drives.

“We plan to launch the DVDs and USBs in a phased manner throughout India by the end of October 2010,” said P. Ramnath, director of Firstobject.

According to the company, the collaboration with Moser Baer will enable it to widen its product offering in the media range through DVDs and USB drives.

New Delhi, September 29: Both the ruling Congress and Opposition BJP welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision lifting temporary stay on pronouncement of judgement in the Ayodhya land title suit.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court is now free to
deliver judgement in the 60-year-old case.

Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said yesterday that his party never wanted deferment of the judgement, as alleged by the Opposition.

Mega Dairy project to be launched in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, September 29 (Siasat News): AP government has decided to set up a massive dairy project in Hyderabad with a cost of Rs. 50 crores, to promote dairy industry and increase milk production in the State.

Talking to media persons after attending a review meeting convened under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the Secretariat, Animal Husbandry Minister K Parthasarathy announced this and said that the project would be completed in a 3-year period.

China’s high-speed train sets new world record

Beijing, September 29: A high-speed train in China has set a new world speed record during a trial run.

The train hit a maximum speed of 416.6 km per hour on its journey Tuesday between Shanghai and Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, Xinhua reported.

The train is designed to run at a speed of 350 km per hour on the 202-km-long track between the two cities. A one-way journey previously took two hours. But the new train would lessen that to around 40 minutes, officials said.

Top Al Qaeda leader killed in Pak

Islamabad, September 29: Top Al Qaeda leader Sheikh Al-Fateh has been killed in a US drone attack in northwest Pakistan, Xinhua reported Tuesday.

US drones fired nine missiles at three targets in North Waziristan to eliminate him Sunday.

Al-Fateh, 50, had joined the Taliban after coming to Afghanistan from Yemen in 1996. He fled to Pakistan after the US attacked Afghanistan in 2001.

He was appointed as commander of the Al Qaeda for operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan following the death of its leader Mustafa Abu al-Yazid in North Waziristan in May.

Chidambaram briefed on Games preparations, security

New Delhi, September 29: Home Minister P. Chidambaram was Tuesday evening briefed by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna about the steps being taken to improve the condition at the “filthy” Games Village and also the security measures put in place for the Commonwealth Games.

According to a government official, the overall preparations at the Games Village, constructed by the Delhi Development Authority of which Khanna is a chairman, was discussed during the meeting.

Chidambaram also asked the L-G to visit the Games Village to oversee the preparations there.

‘CWG stadium sting dishonest’

New Delhi, September 29: Popular Australian TV channel ABC claimed that the alleged sting operation by another Channel Seven on alleged security lapse at the Commonwealth Games was “ridiculous and dishonest”, but the latter has threatened to sue them.

Toronto, September 29: Prostitution was effectively decriminalized in Canada Tuesday after a court here struck down main provisions of prostitution laws on a petition by three sex-trade workers.

“These laws, individually and together, force prostitutes to choose between their liberty interest and their right to security of the person as protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” Justice Susan Himel of Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice said in her 131-page judgment here.

2 more athletes pull out, but 400-strong Canadian team coming

Toronto, September 29: Two more Canadian athletes Tuesday pulled out of the Commonwealth Games starting in New Delhi Oct 3.

Woman diver Meaghan Benfeito cited a shoulder injury and badminton player Alvin Lau school commitments as the reasons to pull out of the event.

They join archers Kevin Tataryn and Dietmar Trillus who withdrew from the Games last week, citing health and security concerns.

After initial reservations about conditions at the athlete’s village, Canada is sending a contingent of about 400 athletes, trainers and other staff to the Games.

Mexican psychiatrists seek psychological treatment in US

Mexico City, September 29: The recent wave of extortion and kidnappings in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico’s murder capital, has forced hundreds of psychiatrists to cross the border to the US to receive psychological treatment.

The situation in Ciudad Juarez has reached the point where “the doctors and psychiatrists themselves are here trying to get help,” psychologist Carlos Perlasca, who works in El Paso, Texas, told EFE.

“The psychologists themselves are going to get treatment because they have been asked for a payment or have even been kidnapped already,” Perlasca said.

Al- Qaeda terror plot targetting Europe foiled

London, September 29: An Al Qaeda-linked plot to launch a Mumbai-style terror attack simultaneously on London and major cities in France and Germany was disrupted by intelligence agencies, a report has said.

The plan for suicidal onslaughts similar to the 2008 atrocity in Mumbai, where 166 people were killed in a series of gun and grenade assaults was uncovered after a combined operation involving US, UK, France and German intelligence agencies, The Guardian reported on Tuesday quoting officials.

20,000 cops to guard city on Babri verdict day

Hyderabad, September 28: The city police have decided to ban pillion riding between 9 pm and 6 am with an exemption to women and children below 12 years as pillion riders. This will be in force from September 28 to October 4.

“Those who want an exemption from the pillion riding ban can approach concerned station house officers (SHOs) and get a pass on production of driving license and RC, provided they have a valid reason ,” city police commissiner A K Khan said.

Eiffel Tower evacuated after second bomb threat in two weeks

Paris, September 28: Paris’ Eiffel Tower was evacuated Tuesday evening due to a bomb threat, the second one this month targeting the French landmark.

Police said an anonymous call was placed from a phone booth saying that explosives had been planted at the tower, leading officers to evacuate visitors.

No explosives were found during an initial search of the landmark.

The tower had been evacuated two weeks earlier due to an anonymous bomb threat, with more than 2,000 people affected. The call turned out to be a hoax. Its perpetrator has yet to be identified.

PM appeals for peace after Ayodhya verdict

New Delhi, September 28: Prime Minister Manmohan Tuesday urged the people to maintain peace and harmony after the Allahabad High Court delivers its verdict Thursday in the 61-year-old Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute in Ayodhya.

“Whatever be the nature of judgment, I think everyone should make every effort to maintain peace, harmony and tranquility in the country,” Manmohan Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a book release function here Tuesday.

He recalled that the appeal for peace had been mentioned in the resolution adopted by the union cabinet Sep 16.

Chidambaram pays surprise visit to Delhi Police headquarters

New Delhi, September 28: Home Minister P. Chidambaram paid a surprise visit to the Delhi Police headquarters here Tuesday evening to discuss the security arrangements for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games with Police Commissioner Y.S.Dadwal.

“He (Chidambaram) visited the police headquarters around 8 p.m. to discuss the security preparations with senior officials for the Commonwealth Games,” said Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat.

Earlier in the day, Chidambaram reviewed security arrangements with top officials including chiefs of intelligence agencies.

New Delhi, September 28: The family of the Indian tennis star Sania Mirza today dismissed as rumours the buzz that she may not stay at the Commonwealth Games Village here.

While the international stars have started coming to Games Village, the latest buzz at the sprawling athletes’ facility was that Indian tennis stars Sania and Mahesh Bhupathi may not stay there.

It was said that Sania may prefer staying with husband Shoaib Malik — a former Pakistan cricket captain — and Bhupathi may stay with fiance Lara Dutta, a Bollywood actress.

US drone attacks in Pakistan peak in September

Islamabad, September 28: The US has intensified missile attacks by unmanned drones against suspected militant hideouts in Pakistan’s tribal region along the Afghan border.

September was the deadliest month since the US launched the drone campaign, with 21 air strikes, nearly twice as many as were launched in January, the month with the next highest total.

At least 123 alleged militants including some foreign fighters linked to Al Qaeda have been killed in the CIA-operated attacks.

AP govt has failed on law & order front, says TDP chief

Vijayawada, September 28: The TDP today said law and order machinery has virtually collapsed in the Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh and the government has become “inefficient”.

“All systems of governance have failed and law and order situation in the state has worsened,” TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu told reporters here, referring to the murder of party leader Chalasani Venkateswara Rao on Sunday in Hyderabad, before leaving for Ventrapragada village to attend the funeral.
