New Delhi, October 05: With former Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf admitting that militant groups had been trained to fight in Kashmir, BJP today said he has confirmed what the party had been saying since long and Delhi should now be “more circumspect” in holding talks with Islamabad. “The point is that what we had been saying since long has been confirmed by a former President,” BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters when asked to comment on the statement of Musharraf published in a German magazine.

Faisal Shahzad gets life for Times Square boming

New York, October 05: Faisal Shahzad, the accused in the Times Square bombing has been sentenced to life in prison.

Shahzad was charged with driving a bomb-laden SUV into Times Square and parking it on a street lined with restaurants and New York’s famous Broadway theatres.

The Pakistan-born American citizen leaded guilty in June to the failed bombing on May 1 in New York. He was arrested two days later aboard a Dubai-bound plane, minutes before it was due to leave New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport.

BJP charges Congress with indulging in ‘cyber crime’

New Delhi, October 05: The BJP today charged Congress with indulging in “cyber crime” over the issue of “theft” of its online identity and demanded a reply to the legal notice issued to the party more than a week ago.

The Bharatiya Janata Party suspects that the Congress party has covertly negotiated with a cyber squatter and used the site bjp.com to first spread malicious content affecting the BJP.

CWG: Wrestler Ravinder Singh brings 3rd Gold

New Delhi, October 05: India wrestler Ravinder Singh brought third gold for India on the second day of Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi.

Ravinder defeated Terence Christopher 1-0, 7-0 in the final of Greco Roman style (60kg) wrestling event.

With this Gold India inches close to Australia in the CWG medal tally. Australia stands at top in the list with seven Gold medals followed by India with three gold medals. Singapore has two gold medals.

Anil Kumar and Sanjay have also qualified for the final and at least two silver medal is fixed for India.

CWC discusses Ayodhya, CWG and Kashmir

New Delhi, October 05: The Congress Working Committee, chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi, met in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the Ayodhya verdict and the successful inauguration of the Commonwealth Games.

The meeting also discussed the situation in conflict-ridden Kashmir, the source added.

Sheikhpura massacre: Sanjay Singh dies in court

Bihar, October 05: The Former Bihar minister Sanjay Singh died of massive cardiac arrest inside Munger District court premises on Tuesday.

Sanjay Singh, accused in Sheikhpura massacre, suffered massive heart attack after judge convicted him and four others into the case.

Sanjay Singh was convicted into the Sheikhpura carnage case, in which nine RJD members were brutally killed on December 26, 2001.

Sanjay Singh, his father Rajo Singh and two others were accused in the case. Sanjay Singh was MLA from Congress and his father was Lok Sabha MP from Begusarai constituency.

Laxman, Sharma shine in India’s win

Hyderabad, October 05: Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Tuesday received another blow with the leadership suspending a key loyalist and issuing show-cause notice to another for anti-party activities.

Andhra Pradesh’s ruling Congress suspended Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, secretary of the party’s state unit, and served show-cause notice on P. Pratap Reddy, president of the Tirupati unit of the party. He has been asked to reply to the notice within a week.

Gambhir, Ishant out of second Test; Laxman doubtful

Mohali, October 05: In a massive blow to the Indian cricket team, opener Gautam Gambhir and pacer Ishant Sharma were today ruled out of the second Test against Australia due to knee injuries while VVS Laxman became doubtful on account of back spasms.

The celebrations of a narrow one-wicket win over the visitors today had not even ended when the Indians were left to deal with the twin loss ahead of the second and final match of series scheduled from October 9 in Bangalore.

“I have an injury and I won’t be playing in the Bangalore Test,” Gambhir told PTI.

AIMPLB to discuss Ayodhya verdict on Oct 9

New Delhi, October 05: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board will hold a crucial meeting on October 9 to analyse the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya title dispute and decide its future course of action on the issue.

The legal committee of the AIMPLB will meet in New Delhi to analyse the HC bench’s verdict in detail and prepare a set of recommendations for the working committee to study.

AICC Plenary session before December 20

New Delhi, October 05: With Sonia Gandhi’s recent re-election as the Congress chief for the fourth term, an AICC meeting is on the cards before Diwali while a Plenary session will be held before December 20 this year.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee amid indications that the AICC meeting could be held in some Northern state while the plenary could take place in Mumbai. The metropolis had hosted the centenary celebrations of the Congress in 1985.

Patna, October 05: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Tuesday dared Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi to contest the state assembly elections against his wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi.

Rabri Devi, a sitting legislator from Raghopur constituency, plans to contest from two constituencies.

No link between Ayodhya verdict, Babri demolition: BJP

New Delhi, October 05: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said there was no need to link the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute to the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.

“At this stage, it’s a verdict of the high court and we respect it. There is no need to link it to the Babri demolition, there is a separate case about it,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said while reacting to the Congress’ assessment that the Sep 30 ruling did not in any way condone the demolition of the masjid.

New Delhi, October 05: The Congress Tuesday said it respected the judicial process on the disputed Ayodhya site but the verdict by Allahabad High Court on the issue “in no way condones” the “shameful and criminal” demolition of the Babri mosque in 1992.

“The Indian National Congress respects the judicial process with regards to the Ayodhya title suit. However, we must now await the final decision of the Supreme Court till and when the appeal is filed,” Congress spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi said.

Musharraf’s candid remarks came days after he announced his return to active politics from London where he has been living in self-imposed exile.

“They (underground militant groups to fight against India in Kashmir) were indeed formed,” Musharraf told German magazine Der Spiegel in an interview.
