PM more capable than me, says Rahul Gandhi

Bhopal, October 06: Rahul Gandhi today described Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as being much more capable than him but left everyone guessing on whether a youth will be able to hold the key post, saying what can be told about the future.

“You have been asking this question for a long time,” he told reporters here.

“We have a very capable Prime Minister. He is much more capable than me. He is on the job. My responsibilities are Youth Congress and NSUI and I am doing that,” he said when asked whether a youth will be able to become the Prime Minister.

Women break male stranglehold over Pakistan politics

Islamabad, October 06: Women are now making a mark in Pakistan’s male-dominated political arena as seats have been reserved for them and candidates have to hold a graduation degree to contest polls.

There is reservation for women in the federal parliament as well as 33 percent quota for women in all legislative assemblies.

Satyam case: CBI to grill Raju for the second day

Hyderabad, October 06: The CBI will continue to question former Satyam Chairman Ramalinga Raju in the 14 thousand crore accounting fraud for the second day on Wednesday.

He was questioned for two hours on Tuesday at the CBI office in Hyderabad. The Andhra Pradesh HC, while granting Raju bail in August had directed him to appear before CBI on a daily basis after he was discharged from hospital.

He is the man charged in India’s biggest corporate fraud. It has been 20 months since the CBI has taken over the case.

Mohammed Hanif escapes Pakistan’s realities

Surplus water likely to be released from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar

Hyderabad, October 06 (Siasat News): Two main reservoirs of the city over flowed due to cloudburst in the twin cities in the evening and surplus water is likely to be released from them.

Full reservoir level of Osman Sagar is 1790 where as full capacity level of Himayath Sagar is 1763.5 and both the reservoirs are filled to the brim.

The heavy rain in the areas above the reservoirs is likely to result in increased inflow of water as a result water may be released in the Musi River.

Successful test flight of India bound Super Hercules

Washington, October 06: The first of six C-130J Super Hercules for India took to the skies for its maiden flight on Monday, its manufacturer Lockheed Martin announced today.

“The aircraft will now complete a series of company and customer flight tests prior to delivery in December. The second and third aircraft are due to fly within the next few weeks,” the American manufacturer said in a statement.

India has placed order for six of C-130J Hercules, which are said to be the most advanced airlifter ever built.

‘Don’t link HC verdict with Babri demolition’

New Delhi, October 06: BJP on Tuesday attacked Congress for linking the Allahabad high court verdict on the Ayodhya title suits with the demolition of Babri Masjid even though criminal proceedings are underway in the second case.

“At this stage, it is a high court verdict which has come on a bunch of civil suits based on certain issues. And to that extent, we respect what has come in the judgment. At this stage, to time and again link it with demolition of Babri Masjid… I don’t think there is any need,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters.

Hashim Ansari alleges threat to life

Ayodhya, October 06: The oldest litigant in the Ayodhya title suit case, Mohammad Hashim Ansari has claimed threat to his life, saying people playing politics over the issue were plotting to kill him.

“When I started to talk about peace with Mahant Gyandas Ansari (president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad) those doing politics on this issue felt their shops will get closed and they are issuing threats and plotting to eliminate me,” Ansari claimed.

Lalu dares Nitish, Modi to take on Rabri

Patna, October 06: RJD chief Lalu Prasad has dared chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi to contest polls against his wife Rabri Devi if they are really “Mai ka lal”.

Lalu said that Rabri would file nominations from two assembly segments Raghopur and Sonepur on October 9. “Agar Nitish Kumar aur Modi asal mein mai ke lal hain to aa jao maidan mein Rabri ke khilaf,” Lalu challenged and added, “Rabri nari nahi, chingari hai”.

Ram temple is my mind’s desire: Advani

Jaipur, October 06: Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani on Tuesday said building a Ram temple at Ayodhya was his mind’s desire. “Until a temple is built in Ayodhya, I would not be content,” he said while delivering a lecture on electoral reforms here.

Though Mr. Advani mostly confined his lecture to aspects pertaining to electoral reforms and the desirability of State funding of polls, the lone reference to the temple post-Allahabad High Court verdict came when he talked about the earlier date he was invited to deliver the lecture here.

Five held in Hyderabad for drug peddling

Hyderabad, October 06: The Hyderabad Police, during July and August this year, had successfully busted four drug-racket networks involving Nigerian and Ugandan nationals.

The operation also helped them in exposing the drug mafia-Tollywood link after those arrested reportedly revealed that their clients included actors, actresses from Telugu film industry and important personalities from posh localities of the state capital.

Police Commissioner A K Khan had then said they had compiled a list of 60-65 people addicted to the narcotics substances.

Heavy rain lashes old city of Hyderabad

Hyderabad, October 06 (Siasat News): It poured cats and dogs for almost an hour in several parts of the old city last evening, with water gushing into the houses of low lying areas.

Two trees have been reported to fall down at Chandrayan gutta Midhani road.

The rain suddenly began in the evening in the parts of old city. The heavy rains made the flow of water difficult resulting in overflowing sewer. To release water from waterlogged roads citizens opened manhole covers.

Traffic was disrupted for two hours.

Telangana:BJP seeking to regain its glory in Andhra

Pakistan situation still critical: UN agencies

United Nations, October 06: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Unicef have said the flood situation in Pakistan remains quite critical in some parts of the country.

The UNHCR said the situation was worse in Sindh province.

“Since mid-August, floods there (Sindh) have to varying degrees affected almost a third of the province’s 30 million residents and around 1. 6 million people are still displaced,” UN spokesman Martin Nesirky was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

New Delhi, October 06: Lashing out at the Congress for raising the Babri Masjid demolition issue ‘again and again’, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said the law is taking its course in the matter and advised the ruling party against giving ‘edifications’.

“It has been said several times that a procedure is separately going on for December 6 (the day of Babri Mosque demolition). This is a legal action,” BJP’s chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Suspected German terrorist arrested in Kenya

Nairobi, October 06: Authorities in Kenya have arrested a German national suspected to be involved in terrorist activities.

Sascha Alessadro Bottcher, 23, was arrested Tuesday in the coastal town of Mtwapa following a countrywide alert, police spokesman Erick Kiraithe said.

The German is a Muslim convert who arrived in Kenya through the Moi international airport in Mombasa in September, Xinhua reported.

33,000 evacuated in China floods

Beijing, October 06: Around 33,000 people had to be evacuated as floods wreaked havoc in China’s Hainan province, officials said.

Floods inundated over 100 villages in Hainan island, forcing the evacuation of the residents, Xinhua reported citing the provincial flood control and drought relief office.

In Qionghai, traffic was paralysed as its urban areas were inundated.

A major highway was also flooded and traffic movement was not expected to resume for at least five days.

White House to use solar energy

Washington, October 06: The White House will install solar panels to provide electricity and hot water for the first family and its staff, an official said.

“There will be solar panels and a solar hot water heater on the roof of the White House” by the end of spring of 2011, Energy Secretary Steven Chu wrote in his department’s official blog Tuesday.

Mexico to launch three new satellites

Mexico City, October 06: Mexico will launch three satellites that will be used for national security and to expand telecommunications capabilities, President Felipe Calderon has said.

The satellites will also help expand the use of telecommunications in the health and education sectors, Calderon said.

The satellites will bring telecommunications to the most remote and “hard to reach communities”, the president said Monday.

Communications and Transportation Secretary Juan Molinar said the satellites, which will cost $1.5 billion, are expected to be ready at the end of 2012.

22 NATO oil tankers torched in Pakistan

Islamabad, October 06: Twenty-two NATO oil tankers were set ablaze early Wednesday near the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta, Xinhua reported.

The attack took place around 6 a.m. when motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire at NATO oil tankers near Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. The firing triggered the blaze. The convoy included 40 NATO supply trucks.

Blast in Bangkok suburb kills 3, cause unknown

Bangkok, October 05: A blast at an apartment complex in a Bangkok suburb killed three people on Tuesday and wounded four, authorities said, deepening unease in the Thai capital after a string of bomb attacks believed to be politically motivated.

“It was likely to have been a bomb but we don’t know which kind and why it was there,” said metropolitan police spokesman Piya Utayo, declining to speculate on who was involved or whether the blast was linked to politics.
