MBT polling agents harassed: Amjadullah Khan Khalid

MBT leader Amjadullah Khan Khalid alleged that things were made difficult for his agents in Bhawani Nagar and Talab Katta and other areas of Yaqutpura segment. Passes of MBT agents were torn while MBT agents were not allowed to sit at many polling booths.

Amjadullah Khan Khaled showed samples of slips which were torn after snatching them, to media representatives. He claimed that MBT agents were harassed. Police was also seen using force. Police tried to keep things under control through aggressive behaviour while many youth were arrested during polling as precautionary measure.

EC issues showcause notice to Punjab CM for making statement on fund raising

The Election Commission has issued a showcase notice to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for allegedly making a statement asking for funds from people.

At an election meeting in Jalandhar, Badal had asked people to give funds to the party secretly for campaigning.

The EC, in its notice to Badal, has said, “The Commission is, prima facie, of the opinion that by making such statement you have violated the above said provision of Model Code of Conduct and also incited others to violate the law.”

Kejriwal to begin his second leg campaign in Amethi today

Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejariwal will begin his second leg of campaign in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency on May 1.

During his two-day stay in Amethi where party nominee Kumar Vishwas is pitted against sitting MP and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and actor-turned-BJP candidate Smriti Irani, Kejriwal will address a series of rallies.

The former Delhi Chief Minister will address at least five public meetings in Jagdishpur, Tiloi and Salon Assembly segments of the constituency, Vishwas said on Wednesday.

Cruelty case against Robin Uthappa’s father and two others

A case has been registered against international cricketer Robin Uthappa’s father Venu Uthappa and two others for allegedly subjecting his wife to cruelty.

“We have booked a case against three persons, including Robin Uthappa’s father for allegedly subjecting his wife Roselyn Uthappa to cruelty,” Kodagu Superintendent of Police Anucheth told PTI here. The case was booked yesterday evening, he said adding that the other two accused are Venu Uthappa’s relative Calvin Varghese and his wife Manjushri.

Prince Harry denies splitting with Cressida Bonas for being too ‘clingy’

Prince Harry has denied claims that he broke up with his girlfriend of two-years Cressida Bonas because she was “too needy”.

A palace source told the Daily Star that it was actually the 25-year-old beauty who ended their relationship because she feels too young for marriage and wanted to focus on her showbiz career.

According to the insider, the 29-year-old Prince felt he needed her more than she needed him.

Afghan Taliban, Haqqani Network continue to find safe haven in Pakistan: US report

Terror groups such as the Haqqani Network and the Afghan Taliban continued to find ‘safe haven’ in Pakistan in 2013, the State Department has said.

The claim was made by the Department in its annual global report on terrorism that it submitted to the Congress on Wednesday.

In the report, the Department also accused Pakistani authorities of not taking ‘significant military or law enforcement action against these groups,’ the Express Tribune reports.

Jayalalithaa case: Lex’s plea seeking stay on case dismissed by HC

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by Lex Property Developers, seeking stay on the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others.

Justice Satyanarayan dismissed Lex’s plea, observing that it was an attempt by the company to delay the main case, in which Jayalalithaa has been charged with accumulating Rs 66 crore wealth disproportionate to known sources of income from 1991 to 1995 when she was Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

The judge also imposed Rs one lakh penalty on the company.

MA Shariff Appointed as Ameer-e-Halqa Karnataka

Mr. Muhammad Atharullah Shariff has been appointed as the new president of the Karnataka State chapter of the Jamaat e Islami Hind by its National President Moulana Jalaluddin Umri.

Mr. Shariff will continue as the Ameer of Karnataka Jamaat for the remaining term- till March 2015, said the statement issued by the Jamaat. He took the charge from outgoing Ameer Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Javed on 16 April at Shanti Sadan, the statement said.

Pakistan provokes again; Army Chief calls Kashmir its ‘jugular vein’

In another provocation, Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif on Wednesday termed Kashmir as the “jugular vein” of his country.

Addressing the main ceremony to mark the ‘Youm-e-Shuhada’ (Martyrs’ Day) at GHQ Rawalpindi, Gen Sharif said Kashmir was an internationally recognised dispute.

“Matchless sacrifices offered by Kashmiris will not go in vain,” he said.

The resolution of the Kashmir issue is “indispensable” for lasting peace in the region, he said.

“Pakistan Army is in favour of peace but is always ready to respond to any aggression in befitting manner,” he said.

Bomb scare causes evacuation in US school

Students and staff were evacuated from a high school in the US state of Texas Wednesday after a bomb threat on the campus, a media report said. Police with sniffer dogs searched the campus but found no explosives.

Tomball High School, some 55 km northwest of downtown Houston, was evacuated late Wednesday morning before lunchtime after school officials learned of a bomb threat, Xinhua quoted local media KHOU as reporting.

Hundreds of students and staff were relocated to the school’s track and field court while parents were notified through text messages.

Jaitley questions FIRs over Modi’s controversial presser

The senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley here on Wednesday questioned the Election Commission’s directive to file criminal case against the media, besides Narendra Modi, for violation of election norms.

“They have asked (Gujarat authorities) to file an FIR against the media for asking questions. Well if that is the situation, then I think (its) legality is in seriousness (sic),” Jaitley said, after casting his vote at a polling booth off Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway here.

Jaitley, who is contesting Lok Sabha election from Amritsar, is a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat.

EC show cause to Punjab CM for fund remarks

The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal for allegedly saying that while crores of rupees are spent on elections, only little is disclosed and asked people to secretly fund the campaign.
Noting that he has prima facie violated the Model Code of Conduct, the EC has asked him to explain his stand on the alleged statement by the evening of 2 May failing which the poll panel will take action without further reference to him.
