Mr. Muhammad Atharullah Shariff has been appointed as the new president of the Karnataka State chapter of the Jamaat e Islami Hind by its National President Moulana Jalaluddin Umri.
Mr. Shariff will continue as the Ameer of Karnataka Jamaat for the remaining term- till March 2015, said the statement issued by the Jamaat. He took the charge from outgoing Ameer Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Javed on 16 April at Shanti Sadan, the statement said.
Fifty-eight-year old Mr. Shariff, a businessman by profession and a political analyst by passion, has been serving Jamaat and the society at different capacities. He has been a member of Zonal Advisory Council of Karnataka Jamaat since 1999.
Mr. Shariff is also serving the community as the Joint Convener of the Karnataka Muslim Muttahida Mahaz, a state level umbrella body of several prominent Muslim organizations working across Karnataka.
Earlier he has held various responsibilities in the organizational life. He was the member of SIO’s Zonal Advisory Council (1989-91), Vice-president of Karnataka Jamaat (2003-2007) and Zonal Secretary (2007-11)
A graduate in Commerce and Communication Science (B.S.) Mr. Shariff basically hails from Kolar district.
