Injured Telugu Journalist dies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 09: The injured journalist belonging to a Telugu Daily today died in Hyderabad while under going treatment. Rajsekhar who was injured during the attack on Sakshi Telugu Daily office at Tadipatri Anantapur was admitted into Apollo DRDO Hospital at Kanchanbagh. But today night he sucummbed to his injuries.

It may be remembered that followers of a former minister attacked the telugu daily office at Tadipatri and the police have already arrested three accused persons in this regard.

Thousands take fish medicine amid swine flu scare

Hyderabad, June 08: With seven cases of the infectious swine flu being reported from this Andhra Pradesh capital, health authorities are worried about the congregation of thousands of asthma patients from around the country and even abroad who have gathered here to take a traditional fish medicine.

The Bathini Goud family, which has been distributing the free fish medicine for over 160 years, Monday started administering it at the sprawling Exhibition Grounds. The programme will continue Tuesday.

YSR tells ACB to be tough against corrupt

Hyderabad, June 08: The chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday asked the Anti Corruption Bureau to intensify its raids against corrupt people and assured that there would be no political interference however big or influential the person might be.

Body fished out from Boduppal lake

Hyderabad, June 08: A body was fished out from Boduppal lake near Nacharam on Sunday.

Nacharam inspector V Venkateshwarlu said the body was identified as that of R Venkatesh, 40, an auto-driver who went missing on May 30. Incidentally, Venkatesh was a history-sheeter.

Venkatesh’s family had lodged a missing complaint with the Osmania University police station on June 3. Police suspect Venkatesh was done to death with a boulder as there was an injury on his head.

DEO warns against pirated textbooks

Hyderabad, June 08: The education department has asked shopkeepers not to sell pirated versions of textbooks in the city. In a release issued here on Saturday, DEO, Hyderabad, M Victoria Kumari has asked school authorities to buy textbooks only from authorised shops, the list of which will be sent to schools.

The DEO has further informed that no other item should be forcefully sold along with the textbooks.

Another flu suspect tests positive

Hyderabad, June 08: With another suspect from the city testing positive for swine flu, taking the number to seven, National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), Delhi, has put in place stringent screening measures. Henceforth, a registry will be maintained at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, of all incoming international passengers.

With majority of the swine flu cases (seven out of nine) detected in Andhra Pradesh, an NICD team from Delhi was airdashed to the city.

Finally, monsoon hits city

Hyderabad, June 08: Finally, the southwest monsoon hit the city on Sunday, providing the much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. Though the monsoon entered the state on June 1, it took six days to reach the twin cities, missing the normal set date by two days, according to data posted on Indian Meteorological Department’s website. Also, cyclone Aila played its bit in slowing down the weather system.

Two spells of rain – one at around 4 pm and another at around 7.30 pm – sent mercury levels plummeting. By 8.30 pm, the city recorded 1.7 cms of rainfall.

Fish prasadam tomorrow

Hyderabad, June 07: The Bathini fish prasadam will be distributed from 10.30 am on Monday to 10.30 am on Tuesday non-stop at Exhibition Grounds in Nampally.

Briefing the media, Hyderabad collector Navin Mittal said 1.5 lakh murrel fingerlings would be kept ready for the prasadam. In all, 32 counters, including one for VIP, physically handicapped besides separate queues for men and women, would be set up.

District officials said three ambulances would be on standby to meet any medical emergencies.

Hyderabad turning swine flu capital

Hyderabad, June 07: Hyderabad is fast gaining the dubious distinction of becoming the swine flu capital of the country with three more cases getting confirmed on Saturday. Of the 8 cases of swine flu reported in India, six are from Hyderabad with Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu accounting for the other two.

7-yr-old burnt alive

Hyderabad, June 03: In a dastardly act, a seven-year-old girl, Sujatha, was burnt alive by assailants in Venkatagiri Colony, Road Number 10, Jubilee Hills, on Tuesday evening.

Jubilee Hills police said Sujatha came to Hyderabad from Mahbubnagar for her summer vacation, a month ago. She had been staying at her grandmother Lakshmi’s house in Venkatagiri Colony and used to regularly visit her aunt J Padma’s house in the vicinity.

Sania gets engaged to Hyderabad-based businessman

New Delhi, May 29:Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has got engaged to a Hyderabad-based businessman but her family has ruled out an immediate wedding or early retirement for the star.
The 22-year-old, who is the most successful woman tennis player of the country, will continue playing the game and her father Imran Mirza said it will take a while before the two families decide on when the wedding would take place.

No change in TDP’s stand on Telangana

Hyderabad, May 28: Telugu Desam’s two-day Mahanadu began with its president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, making it clear that there is no change in its stand on separate Telangana.

Inaugurating the annual meeting, Mr. Naidu sought to put at rest speculation that the party could reverse its stand towards Telangana in the wake of the poll debacle. He ruled out the possibility of such a change asserting how it was included in the manifesto after a long debate.

Structures around mosque to be razed

Hyderabad, May 25: Archaeology and museums department officials have asked Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to pull down 20 structures around
the Hayat Bakshi Begum mosque in Hayatnagar, a protected monument.

Throwing heritage norms to the wind, GHMC officials had allowed nearly 20 buildings in the buffer zone of the mosque. According to the department of archaeology, buildings have come up in survey number 260 of Hayat Bakshi Begum mosque.

Assembly to meet on June 1

Hyderabad, May 24: The newly-formed 13th State Legislative Assembly will meet for its first session for five days from June 1.

All the 294 elected members will take oath on the first day.

The election of the new Speaker will take place on June 2 and governor N D Tiwari will address the joint session of assembly and the council on the same day.

Later, from June 3 to June 5, the House will take up the debate on the motion of thanks to the governor. The budget session of the assembly is expected to begin at the end of the month.

Gaddar to launch new party to fight for Telangana

Hyderabad, May 23: Accusing Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao of defusing the Telangana movement, revolutionary balladeer Gaddar Friday said he would float a party to achieve separate statehood through a people’s struggle.
The Maoist sympathiser told reporters that this would not be a mere vote-based party like the TRS but would try to achieve its goal through a people’s struggle, including a cultural campaign.

Gaddar said he would make an announcement after his surgery to remove a bullet from his body.

Depressed Inter student commits suicide

Hyderabad, May 11: An Intermediate second year student of Sri Chaitanya Junior College, Aushapur, committed suicide by hanging himself in the college bathroom on Sunday afternoon.

Ch Santosh Kumar, 17, of Korutla in Karimnagar district, was pursuing Intermediate II year (MPC stream) at Sri Chaitanya residential junior college in Aushapur village of Ghatkesar police limits.

After finishing classes at 12.30 pm, Santosh walked into a bathroom in the college premises and hanged himself with a plastic wire.

Security beefed up for Friday prayers

Hyderabad May 08: Police force has been beefed up in Bholakpur as several mosques are located inthearea.WithlargeturnoutlikelyforFridayprayers,
police officials do not want to take any risk so increase the number of pickets. Six police pickets were set up on May 5, the day seven deaths were reported from the area. Two more pickets were added as a precautionary measure. Apart from the pickets, two mobile parties have also been deployed to keep tabs on the situation, Musheerabad station house officer P Venkata

Two more suspected swine flu cases in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 04: Even as the suspected patient from San Francisco tested negative for swine flu, two more suspected cases have been reported. While one arrived at the Shamshabad airport from Germany this morning with symptoms of the H1N1 infection, another person, who came here a week ago, was admitted to the hospital late in the evening.
