Kejriwal running AAP like an autocrat, claims Vinod Binny

Disgruntled Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Vinod Binny on Thursday described Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal as an autocrat, and all those luminaries from various sections of society joining the party as opportunists.

Addressing a news conference here a day after he was refused a ticket to contest this year’s general elections by the AAP leadership, Binny also called former IBN7 managing editor Ashutosh an opportunist.

“Who is an opportunist? Ashutosh is an opportunist,” said Binny.

He said Kejriwal’s way of working was autocratic and he didn’t agree with it.

AAP seeks control over Delhi Police after gang rape

Condemning the rape of a 51-year-old Danish woman near the New Delhi railway station, ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stressed the need for fast track courts, and for bringing Delhi Police under the purview of the state government.

The 51-year-old was robbed and then raped by a gang of six Wednesday afternoon when she sought directions to her hotel.

Minor girl raped by neighbour in Delhi.

A 13-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour here in the capital, police said Wednesday.

The incident took place in Harsh Vihar area of east Delhi Monday evening.

The girl told police she had gone to Anand Vihar, also in east Delhi, with her neighbour for some work.

“After spending some time in Anand Vihar, the accused took the girl to a room in Harsh Vihar on the pretext of having some work and raped her and threatened here with dire consequences,” a police officer said.

The accused later fled the spot leaving the girl there.

NHRC asks Delhi for reports on deaths of homeless

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Wednesday asked the Delhi government for reports following the death of two homeless.

It has called for the reports within four weeks.

“NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that two homeless people were found dead at a distance of 30 to 40 feet in the Yamuna Pusta area Jan 1,” the statement said.

The commission observed the press report, if true, raises a serious question of violation of human rights of the homeless people in Delhi.

Delhi government’s Jan Lokpal bill almost ready

Eighty percent of the work on the first draft of the Delhi government’s Jan Lokpal bill has been completed, Chief Secretary S.K. Srivastava said Wednesday.

“Eighty percent of the work on the first draft of the Jan Lokpal bill has been completed and the remaining work will be done soon. We are at it,” Srivastava told IANS.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appointed a committee, headed by Srivastava, to work on the Jan Lokpal bill, and it was expected to submit the first draft Jan 15.

Addressing media here, Kejriwal said Binny has been wanting a AAP ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections as also a ministerial post in the AAP Government in Delhi.

Binny denies rift with AAP leaders

Aaam Admi Party legislator Vinod Kumar Binny, who claimed that his party was deviating from its path, Wednesday denied any rift with party leaders and reiterated he was not upset with the decision not to make him a minister.

Speaking to media persons here, Binny said there is no issue between him and the party over his name being dropped from the list of cabinet ministers.

Foggy morning for Delhi

It was a foggy morning in Delhi Wednesday, India Meteorological Department said.

Visibility dipped to 200 metres at 8.30 a.m.

Minimum temperature early Wednesday was recorded three notches above average at 10.2 degrees Celsius.

At least 22 trains coming to the national capital were running late due to fog, according to Northern Railway.

Maximum temperature during the day is expected to be around 22 degrees Celsius.

Humidity was 100 percent at 8.30 a.m.

Two held with 16 pistols in Delhi

Two members of an inter-state gun smuggling racket have been arrested here and 16 sophisticated pistols recovered from them, Delhi Police said Monday.

Dinesh Dabur, 25, and Sunil, 27, both residents of Khargone in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested Sunday from Sarai Kale Khan area in south Delhi and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, respectively.

“Police recovered 16 semi-automatic pistols of 7.65 mm bore from their possession,” a police officer said. Ten pistols were recovered from Dabur and six from Sunil.

Kejriwal says no need, but gets Z-category security

Fourteen police personnel have been deployed to protect Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the Uttar Pradesh government approved Z-category security cover for him.

The Delhi chief minister resides in Uttar Pradesh, in an apartment at Girnar Tower at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad.

The chief minister, however, continued to maintain that he has no need for security.

Fourteen policemen have been deployed after the Uttar Pradesh government approved Z-category security cover for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who resides in an apartment at Girnar Tower at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad.

“We have deployed two personal security officers (PSOs) of sub-inspector rank, who are assisted by eight security guards. An escort vehicle, consisting of four security personnel, headed by a head constable, has also been provided by Ghaziabad police,” Circle Officer Kamlesh Bahadur of the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) said.

Mobiles, wallets stolen at Delhi CM’s ‘Janta Darbar’

Six complaints of mobile theft and pockets being picked were received by police Saturday from people who went to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his ‘Janata Darbar’ outside the Secretariat, officials said.

“A total of six complaints were received by 2 p.m. including from two journalists and a policemen. The trio lost their mobile phones,” a police officer told IANS.

Police said complaints were also received about pickpocketing.

Left public meet venue to avoid stampede: Kejriwal

As chaos prevailed at AAP Government’s first ‘janta darbar’ here, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said he left the venue to avoid a stampede-like situation and admitted that arrangements were not adequate.

“We will have to improve the arrangements.If I had not left the place then there was a possibility of a stampede. Everybody wanted to meet me. We will streamline the system so that a similar situation does not recur,” he said.

“We will improve the system. I will sit with the officers and make necessary arrangements,” he told reporters.

Arvind Kejriwal holds ‘janta darbar’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers are holding a ‘janata darbar’ at the secretariat here Saturday to address the public grievances.

The one-and-a-half-hour session began at 9.30 a.m. and will continue till 11.30 a.m.
The chief minister said his entire cabinet will sit outside the Delhi Secretariat every week Saturday and “hear grievances from people and try to solve them”.

On weekdays, one minister will hear public problems, Kejriwal said. Security has been increased outside the secretariat for the event.

AAP volunteers assaulted during membership drive

Two volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were Friday assaulted by unidentified assailants while they were engaged in a membership drive in south Delhi, police said.

Shekhar and Ghulab, in their mid-20s, were thrashed and beaten by sticks by more than 10 people while they were conducting the party’s membership drive in the Bijwasan area.

According to the police, a call was received around 10 a.m. The police reached the spot and took the victims to Safdarjung Hospital from where they were discharged after treatment.

Delhi shivers on chilly day

A cold, chilly day greeted Delhiites on Friday with the mercury settling at 5 degree Celsius, two notches below normal.

The minimum temperature was also 1.5 degrees down from yesterday’s 6.5 degree Celsius and the maximum temperature showed a similar trend.

The day temperature was recorded at 20.2 degree Celsius, a notch below normal and marginally less than 20.7 degree Celsius of the previous day.

The humidity levels oscillated between 71 per cent and 100 per cent.

Drunk man stabs Delhi Police constable

A Delhi Police constable was stabbed by a drunk man when he tried to intervene in the quarrel between the man and his wife, police said Friday.

The attack took place around 1.30 a.m. Friday in Alipur area of west Delhi.

Police constable Shankar Singh, 32, was stabbed in his neck by Lalit Kumar, a fourth grade employee of North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL).

He was rushed to a hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

Delhi woman boxer falls off train in scuffle with robber

A woman boxer was seriously injured when she fell off a moving train following a scuffle with a robber in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district. She has been shifted to New Delhi for better treatment, said authorities Friday.

The Delhi-based woman boxer took on the robber Wednesday night, but fell from Farakka Express. She was shifted to New Delhi late Thursday for treatment.

Simran Verma was injured late Wednesday when she fell from the moving train in Faizabad in a scuffle with the robber who tried to snatch her bag and flee, Government Railway Oolice said Friday.

Free water by tankers for unconnected Delhi homes

Houses in the capital that missed out on the government’s free water scheme because they do not have piped water supply will now get free water through Delhi Jal Board (DJB) tankers, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Thursday.

“Parts of Delhi that do not have piped water supply will get water through tankers. Details of the tanker and its driver along with his mobile number will be listed online according to the particular colony,” he said.

“People can call the driver directly and if we get complaints of wrongdoing by him, he will be suspended,” Kejriwal added.
