late on Sunday night, a teenage lovers attempted suicide on railway tracks ended in the death of the boy and the girl sustaining serious injuries.

The teenage lovers has been identified as Renuka Prasad 17years-old, a resident of Kammanahalli in Magadi. Prasad was in love with a 14-year-old girl, a class IX dropout, for the past couple of months. Prasad used to work as a data operator with a private company,where as the girl was employed at a garments factory.

On Sunday, an 18-year-old student was killed after he rammed his bike into the road median near Sahakarnagar Cross .

According to police, Sanjeev, a resident of Byatarayanapura and a BSc student, was overspeeding, and lost control over the bike when he drove over a road hump. Sanjeev died on the spot.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday launched the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) here to provide timely quality health services to the urban poor.

“Eight years back we launched National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), in which we launched many hospitals, which resulted in reduced infant and maternity mortality rate. We want to launch same thing in urban areas,” he told media here today.

Indian Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad Monday launched the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) here to provide health security to the urban poor, amounting to about 200 crore people.

“The mission envisages setting up health check-up infrastructure and create manpower for the welfare of the poor dwelling in cities and towns on the lines of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM),” he said on the occasion.

The central government will bear 80 percent of the cost of implementing the programme in 779 urban areas with over 50,000 population across the country by 2015.

A 44-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son, an engineering student, reportedly hanged themselves with a ceiling fan at their home in Balaji Layout, Kodigehalli on Sunday evening.

According to Police, Prema and her son, Rajath, were very disturbed after her husband Suryaprakash left home 15 days ago following a quarrel. Prema had fought with her husband, an alcoholic, urging him to give up drinking.

Suryaprakash then left home, promising never come back. His absence made the mother and son depressed due to which they took the extreme step, added police.

Syed Salman, 19-year-old BBM student died of mysterious injuries in the early hours of Sunday. Salman was a resident of J C Nagar, was brought to the M S Ramaiah Hospital late on Saturday night by a young man who claimed to be his friend. He, however, left the hospital soon after.

Police investigations have revealed that Salman hung out with one of his friends on Saturday evening. Police sources said, when his father called him up around 9 pm, he himself returned the call and said he would come home soon.

Padal Sooryanarayana Reddy, 23, a software engineer from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was killed when he lost control over his two-wheeler and rammed it into a road divider near HAL helicopter division on Saturday night.

Reddy was riding a bike on Varthur Main Road and his colleague, Gajjal Dhiresh Krishna, was on the back-seat.
According to Police sources, Reddy was speeding when a moped coming from the opposite direction applied sudden brakes to avoid hitting a dog. Reddy, in turn, applied brakes to avoid ramming the moped.

On Saturday evening, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her teenage neighbour in Jakkasandra. Police said the teenager forced the victim, a class III student at a government school, into his house when she was playing outside. Though the suspect has been held but police have refused to disclose his identity, suspecting him to be underage.

City police today began interrogation of the Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal on his alleged involvement in the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium blast case.

“We have begun Bhatkal’s interrogation in Chinnaswamy stadium blast case and he will be in our custody till January 28,” City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told PTI.

Bhatkal, under judicial custody in Tihar Jail in connection with various terror attack cases, was brought to the city yesterday. “He was handed over to us by National Investigative Agency last night,” Auradkar said.

A winding-up petition has been admitted in the Karnataka High Court against Vijay Mallya’s grounded carrier Kingfisher Airlines Limited.

Justice Ananda Byrareddy admitted the petition filed by a consortium of banks led by State Bank of India after he determined that the claim of the creditors that the company was commercially insolvent is bonafide and hence unable to pay off its dues.

Kingfisher Airlines has been sued in various courts for non-payment of dues to its creditors. The consortium of 17 banks have claimed an outstanding of over Rs 7,000 crore from the carrier.

The Kumbalgod police have arrested a 55-year-old man on charges of raping his minor daughter for the past two months and impregnating her.

The accused was living with his wife, two sons and the 16-year-old daughter, a first pre-university student. While the accused is a construction labourer, his wife works in a garment factory here, the police said.

The accused allegedly raped his daughter over a period of two months, after she returned home from college.

He would threaten her with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.

The city police on Friday secured the custody of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal for 10 days.

The police had filed a petition with the special NIA court in Delhi seeking his custody in connection with Chinnaswamy stadium blasts hours before the IPL cricket match between Royal Challengers and Mumbai Indians here in April 2010.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Hemanth Nimbalkar said Yaseen Bhatkal would be brought to Bangalore for questioning.

The police had filed a petition before the NIA court with a Magistrate court’s production warrant issued against him.

Early-stage investment firm Inventus Capital has raised 106 million dollars in a second fund that will be invested from its offices in US-India startups.

The Karnataka Bank opened its 44th ATM in the northern region at Ashok Vihar in Nangloi on Thursday afternoon.

The ATM was opened by I.Ramamohan Rao, a former director of the bank.

Vijay Shankar Rai, Deputy General Manager of the Karnataka Bank for the northern region, disclosed that the ATM can be operated by account holders of other banks also, and added that no charges would be levied for operating the ATM.

He also said that the ATM will have a 24-hour guard to ensure the safety of account holders using the facility. (ANI)

The Karnatataka Police Wednesday moved a court here seeking custody of Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal in connection with the 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium blast case.

The state police requested District Judge I.S. Mehta at Patiala House Court here to hand over the custody of Bhatkal, telling him a Bangalore court has issued production warrant for Bhatkal asking for him to be brought before it on or before Jan 20.

The court has fixed Jan 17 for further hearing.

Controversial American evangelist Benny Hinn cancelled his visit to Bangalore to participate in a five-day religious programme from Wednesday on the city’s outskirts, a police official said.

“Hinn is not coming to Bangalore. He does not figure in the programme its organisers gave us to make security arrangements. He has cancelled his trip,” Bangalore Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) Kamal Pant told reporters here Tuesday/

A class I was allegedly sexually abused by a 60-year-old neighbour in Hebbal on Monday evening. The girl was five year-old.

Based on the complaint by the mother of the girl, Hebbal police arrested the man. The arrested has been identified as Krishna Reddy, 60, a cab driver.

According to Police ,the mother and the daughter lived alone in a rented house in the area as the mother had separated from her husband .

On Monday evening, the mother had gone out for tailoring work for a living when the incident is said to have occurred.

Amidst protests by some Hindu groups in parts of Karnataka, American evangelist Benny Hinn has cancelled his visit to the city tomorrow.

Saffron groups were up in arms against Hinn’s visit, alleging that the evangelist’s “hidden agenda” was to convert people to Christianity.

In the early hours of Sunday ,goods vehicle driver was killed on the spot after a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) slamed into his vehicle on the Outer Ring Road in Bhadrappa Layout.

According to police, Rudramuni, 24, goods vehicle driver was a native of Hiriyur in Chitradurga district.

The accident happened when the SUV veer off onto the main road and rammed the goods vehicle. Rudramuni died of serious head injury. The SUV driver deserted the vehicle and fled the spot.

An unidentified body of man was found next to the railway tracks between Hejjala and Kengeri in the early hours of Sunday. The age of the deceased was between 35 and 40.

The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital. According to senior railway official, there were injury marks on the face and abdomen. And suspected that he might have fallen off from a moving train.

The official further added that “It could be an accident or a case of suicide,”.
