The Kumbalgod police have arrested a 55-year-old man on charges of raping his minor daughter for the past two months and impregnating her.
The accused was living with his wife, two sons and the 16-year-old daughter, a first pre-university student. While the accused is a construction labourer, his wife works in a garment factory here, the police said.
The accused allegedly raped his daughter over a period of two months, after she returned home from college.
He would threaten her with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.
The rape came to light when the victim was taken to a hospital after she complained of nausea on Thursday. Medical examination proved that she was pregnant. As it was a medico-legal case, the doctors informed the police.
The police swung into action and questioned the victim who revealed her father was responsible.
The Kumbalgod police have arrested the accused and booked him for rape.
According to the Kumbalgod police, the wife and sons have protested against Pushparaj’s arrest despite conceding that he may have raped the daughter.
