A special police team from Bengaluru today visited the central prison here to find out if the culprit involved in the ‘ATM attack cases’ has been arrested in some other case and lodged in jail.

Rajesh, special police inspector, Bengaluru, told reporters that in November last year, a woman bank official was attacked with a machete inside an ATM kiosk with the act caught on CCTV footage. The assailant is still at large.

Investigations led to the discovery that the man was also involved in the killing of a woman in Andhra Pradesh to steal her ATM card and withdraw money.

Unearthing an international online multi-level marketing racket, city police have arrested four persons, including a woman New Zealand national, for allegedly collecting about Rs 50 crore illegally using social media platform to lure people to join their web-based company.

The four arrested have been booked under sections of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Scheme (Ban) Act and Indian Penal Code section 420 (cheating), police said today.

A three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted twice in the premises of a private school here in the fifth such incident in as many months.

The accused, a school attendant, was arrested on November 30 after the mother of the victim registered a police complaint, City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told PTI here.

In the complaint filed on November 29, the mother alleged that the child was sexually abused twice on October 22 and November 26, Reddi said.

Firing trials of the Akash Air Defence System, designed and developed by DRDO, have been conducted successfully at the Integrated Test Range at Balasore in Odisha, Bharat Electronics Limited which manufactured it said.

The system has been designed to defend and protect the nation’s assets from penetrating aerial attacks. The Akash missile can fly at supersonic speed.

BEL, a Navratna PSU, is involved in the manufacture and integration of highly complex and sophisticated Ground Radars for surveillance and tracking the control centers for the Akash Air Defence System.

BJP on Monday said it would not tolerate a “non-performing” Congress government in Karnataka and would aim to free the state from its clutches.

“The government should perform or go,” party General Secretary in charge of Karnataka affairs P Muralidhar Rao said here today.

He said BJP was in consolidation mode in the state and an intensive membership drive was on.

After winning elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, BJP also wanted Karnataka to be in the party’s fold, he said, adding, people have accepted BJP as a national party cutting across political lines.

BJP on Sunday said the party would lay siege to assembly at Belagavi in the winter session of the state legislature to protest against the ‘failures’ of the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.

“We have decided to lay a siege at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha to protest against this government. On December 9 with an intention to awaken this government, about 50,000 party workers will lay siege to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha,” BJP national vice president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa told reporters here.

CM of Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah, while addressing a press conference in Gulbarga after the cabinet meeting told that after the formation of his Government, cabinet meeting was held for the first time in Gulbarga. In the meeting issues relating to 6 districts of Hyderabad-Karnataka region were discussed. Issues relating Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Yadagir and Kullpal were discussed in the meeting. It was considered seriously that special privileges could be given to Hyderabad-Karnataka region under Article 371 J of Constitution of India.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Biman Bose on Saturday said that issues over meetings being held at Victoria House had taken place earlier as well, but the party never took the matter to court unlike the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on Saturday backed the proposal to provide formal military training to the youth of the country, which he said will effectively serve the nation’s growth.

However, he said he was not sure about the content of the bill as envisaged by the government.

“We already have the NCC, which is oriented towards military training, discipline, Go through the hardships and attract people and the youth towards joining the military. So, it is already there. But, if this has come up I am not sure what the content of the bill is,” Raha told mediapersons here.

The CPI state unit today said it would take steps to organise an all-party protest against Karnataka’s plans to construct check dams across the Cauvery river.

CPI state unit Secretary D Pandian said his party would write to all parties first and meet the respective leaders if required.

Speaking to reporters here, he extended his party’s support to protest movements in the Cauvery delta districts and said the proposal to galvanise all parties was the ‘next level’ in this issue.

A software engineer committed suicide by jumping to death from an under-construction building on Thursday as police and fire brigade failed to dissuade him from taking the extreme step at the Electronic City, a senior police official said.

“The 23-year-old software engineer hailing from Barsi in Uttar Pradesh leaped to death after we and fire officials failed to dissuade him from taking the suicidal step,” DCP (South-East) Rohini Katoch Sepat told a news agency here.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Chaudhary, she said.

In a swift action, police have arrested six persons for allegedly stalking and harassing five women sitting in a car in the heart of the city within two days after the incident which was caught on camera.

The incident happened on Saturday around 11.30 PM when the women on a weekend outing stopped their car near an ice cream parlour on MG Road and found to their shock unidentified men trying to open the doors of their vehicle with their screams for help going unnoticed.

A court here on Wednesday issued a search warrant against BJP Lok Sabha member B Sriramulu in connection with a case of cheating filed against him in April.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate ordered the issue of search warrant as neither Sriramulu nor his advocate were present when the matter came up before the court today.

The court had in September ordered issue of Non-Bailable Warrant against Sriramulu in the case relating to alleged cheating involving Rs 2.96 crore registered against him.

A Canada-based NRI has lost Rs 1.13 crore from his account with a bank in Manipal after hackers made their way into his e-mail account and got the money transferred to two of their accounts overseas, according to a complaint lodged with the police.

The fraud was committed after hackers made their way into the NRI’s personal e-mail ID and sent mails to the Manipal Branch of Syndicate Bank asking for transfer of the money from his Foreign Currency Non Resident Account (FCNR), police said.

As it raised a storm of protest, the proposed “Kiss of Love” event here on November 30 has been denied permission by police, saying it would lead to public display of affection and other obscene act barred under law.

The planned event against moral policing had earned opprobrium from all political parties in the state who found it unacceptable, besides raising the hackles of right-wing organisations which have threatened to counter it.

A retired Indian Air Force officer was found bound and strangled in his house on the city’s outskirts, police said Monday.

He was identified as Air Commodore Parvez Khokhar (retd.), 70.

“We have registered a case of murder and sent Khokhar’s body to a hospital for autopsy on a complaint by his wife (Pramila),” Bangalore (Rural) Superintendent of Police Ramesh Bhanot told IANS here.

Khokhar, who originally hails from Punjab, served in the air force for 35 years.

The Dakshina Kannada district administration has imposed a ban on the conduct of Kambala (buffalo racing on slush tracks), a folklore sport that has been part of rural life in the district.

The conduct of Kambala is a violation of Section 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, a circular said.

The ban was imposed by the department of animal husbandry and veterinary sciences based on a Supreme Court order dated May 7, 2014 and direction of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI).

Last week, the Udupi administration had also banned the sport.

Karnataka government will soon set up smart class rooms and virtual classes at its first grade colleges to achieve quality enrichment of teaching-learning processes through technological intervention, a minister said.

“A plan is afoot to establish smart class rooms in all the government first grade colleges across the state,” Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande told reporters here today.

As a pilot project, smart class rooms are being set up in the select 50 government first grade colleges. Smart classrooms will be set up in other government colleges in a phased manner, he said.

The Airports Authority of India has requested the Union Health ministry to set up a thermal scanner equipment to check the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) at the Mangalore International Airport here.

A team of Directorate General of Civil Aviation from Hyderabad and Bengaluru had visited the airport to take stock of measures to detect EVD and the team was fully satisfied, MIA director JT Radhakrishna said.

In the wake of Karnataka High Court’s direction to the state government to act on big encroachers of government land and to clear encroachments of over five acres, Revenue Minister V Srinivas Prasad on Friday said the state government will take action on it on a war-footing.

Karnataka government on Thursday said it has the right to construct a dam on the Cauvery river without violating the order of Cauvery River Water Tribunal.

“Government of Karnataka is not violating any of the Tribunal awards. Within the legal frame, we have to give 192 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu in an average year… Beyond 192 TMC, if there is any (surplus) water during floods within our own territory, Karnataka has the rights to use that water,” State Water Resources Minister M B Patil said.

A 22-year old student from Manipur suffered head injuries after being attacked by three men here last night.

Samuel, who is currently in a hospital, said he was attacked when the assailants realized that he was different looking.

“I don’t know the attackers but I know they are not from the area. They just teased me when they realized I was different looking. I would say it was racial discrimination,” he told ANI here.

A shopping portal, raided by police for allegedly duping gullible customers with false advertisements, will be shut down soon, a senior police official said Tuesday.

“We will order shutting down the fake web site after completing the investigation and filing charge-sheet against the six accused partners who created the portal (BIGSOP.com) and used payment gateways of many banks for transactions,” Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police Hemant Nimbalkar told IANS in Bangalore.
