Hyderabad, December 13: A group of ministers from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, who threatened to resign in protest against the division of the state, tonight discussed Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s appeal not to quit office.
Three senior ministers from among the 20 ministers who threatened to quit yesterday over the move carve out a separate Telangana briefed today’s meeting of their deliberations with the chief minister.

Anantapur, Dec 12: Students of Sri Krishnadevaraya University turned violent and set cables on fire at BSNL godowns near the university campus on Saturday.
The students shouted slogans in support of integration of the state and attacked the godowns; thick smoke billowed from cables they set ablaze.

The AP assembly has been adjourned till Monday and Chief Minister K Rosaiah has appealed for peace amid calls for a bandh in the state.

Paris, December 11: Muslim men who force their wives to wear the full Islamic veil should not be granted French citizenship, Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said.
Wading into the debate over whether to ban the burqa, Alliot-Marie said the government would await the recommendations of a parliamentary panel considering possible legislation to bar Muslim women from wearing the full veil.
But the minister went on to say that “there are a certain number of basics on which we must stand firm.”
Hyderabad, November 09: Ruling ruling Congress’ legislators from Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region, who have quit their posts today over the Centre’s decision to concede to the demand for a separate Telangana, have decided to step up their campaign for a united state.
“We feel division of the state is not a solution to the problems in the state. Instead, united state is the solution.
If division becomes inevitable, we want a separate Rayalaseema state”, government Whip Sailajanath told reporters.

New Delhi, December 10: Despite Centre’s announcement that it will initiate the process of formation of Telangana, the proposed state could see the light of the day not before a year or two considering the logistics it would be required for a new administration.

Hydearbad, Decemeber 09: The Andhra Pradesh police has reportedly sounded the Army officials to be ready to step in, if necessary, during the ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme planned by Telangana activists on December 10.

Vijayawada, December 09: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Secretary K Shivaji today urged the Election Commission (EC) and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to cancel the membership of Telugu Desam Lok Sabha Parliamentary Party (TDPP) leader Nama Nageswara Rao as he failed to show payment of lease amount in the affidavit filed by him ahead of the general elections held in April this year.
Addressing a press conference here, he claimed that Mr Rao had failed to mention in his affidavit the payment amount of Rs 27.26 crore due to Mines and Geology Department.

Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy was forced to adjourn the House twice during this brief period when TRS members obstructed the proceedings and insisted on passage of a resolution on statehood.
Hyderabad, December 09: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah Wednesday said ‘anti-social elements’ had joined the movement for a Telangana state. Police believe Maoists have penetrated the movement through students and other sympathisers.
While Rosaiah told reporters in the assembly premises that his government had received information about ‘anti-social elements’ and was looking into it, a senior police official pointed out that Maoists always supported the demand for separate Telangana state.

Hyderabad, December 09: In the wake of the intensification of the movement for separate Telangana State, the demand for formation of a Greater Rayalaseema State has come to the fore.
Ruling Congress MLAs and MLCs representing the Rayalaseema region met in the Assembly Committee Hall here today to take stock of the prevailing situation in the Telangana region. A majority of them demanded formation of Greater Rayalaseema State by merging Prakasam and Nellore districts with the existing districts of the region i.e. Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool and Chittoor.
Hyderabad, December 09: Old habits die hard and the residents of Manikeshwar Nagar, who knew Bodasu Narasimha, would vouch for it. On Monday, 66-year-old Narasimha, a daily wage labourer, stayed at home as his employer announced a holiday following the bandh call given by the TRS.
As was his habit for the last several years, he would often be spotted sitting on a slab near his house.

Hyderabad, December 09: As part of the Civil Defence Week observance, the South Central Railway celebrated Civil Defence Day at its headquarters, Rail Nilayam, in Secunderabad today.
SCR General Manager MS Jayanth, who was the chief guest at the function, lauded the Civil Defence Demonstrations performed by the Civil Defence Volunteers. While tracing the history of Civil Defence, he said Civil Defence was established in the country under the Civil Defence Act 1968, had wings in all Central and State Government departments and consisted of civilian volunteers to serve civilians.
Hyderabad, December 09: The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday witness uproar as several opposition members made a vociferous demand for tabling of the report of Ranganath Committee which went into the issue of reservation for minorities.
JD(U) and Left members stormed the well during Zero Hour demanding that the Chair direct the government to make public the report which, they said, was freely available under the RTI Act.
The agitated members included Ali Anwar Ansari (JD-U), Shabir Ali (LJP), P Madhu (CPI-M) and Syed Azeez Pasha (CPI).
Hyderabad, December 08: About 250 TRS workers were arrested today across Telangana region as they resorted to violent acts during their agitation for statehood, police said.
The agitators damaged or burnt 12 private and public vehicles and properties in various incidents, they said.
Pro-Telangana students damaged two trucks of CRPF and a vehicle of state police in the Osmania University campus here.
About 15 TRS activists attacked a public transport vehicle at Ameerpet and set afire a government vehicle at Qutbullapur in the city, police said.
