Kadapa, December 20: Proddatur Telugu Desam MLA M Linga Reddy has demanded that the Central Government withdraw its move to bifurcate the State considering the demand of a majority section of people for unified Andhra Pradesh.

Doctors ‘forcibly’ administer fluids to MP and TDP leaders

Vijayawada, December 20: Armed with a local court order, the doctors in the Government General Hospital here late last night ”forcibly ”administered fluids to Vijayawada Congress Lok Sabha Member Lagadapati Rajagopal, Mylavaram TDP Legislator Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, party former Mayor P Anuradha and three others in the presence of the police as their health condition rapidly deteriorated following their fast-uno-death since the last few days.

AP govt transfers eight senior IAS officers

Hyderabad, December 20: The Andhra Pradesh government led by Rosaiah today took a first step towards a major reshuffle of bureaucracy by transferring eight senior IAS officers.

The reshuffle has been long overdue and was repeatedly put off as the government was caught in one crisis after the other in the last three months.

TRS chief waiting for PM’s statement on Telangana

Hyderabad, December 20: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao Saturday said he was waiting for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement on the formation of Telangana and warned the Congress that it would have to pay a heavy price if it backtracked on its commitment on the issue.

With the Dec 9 announcement of the centre on initiating the process for formation of Telangana triggering protests in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh and plunging the state into a political crisis, the prime minister is expected to make a statement.

Protestors stop trains in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, December 19: Protestors agitating against the division of Andhra Pradesh Saturday stopped trains in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions, officials said.

The trains were halted in Kadapa district in Rayalaseema and Krishna district of coastal Andhra.

The all party Joint Action Committee (JAC) had given a call for ‘rail roko’ in Kadapa district.

At Koduru railway station, the Hyderabad-Tirupati Rayalaseema Express and Hyderabad-Chittoor Venkatadri Express were stopped.

Telangana stir continues;shutdown hits life in districts of Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, Dec 19: Relay hunger strikes, road blockades and demonstrations in support of a united Andhra Pradesh continued for the tenth consecutive day today in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of the state even as a 48-hour bandh was being observed in many districts in these regions.

The day-two of the bandh observed in Krishna district, West and East Godavari districts, Guntur, Anantapur and other districts in both the regions, remained peaceful, police said.

Vijayawada, December 19: Amid High Drama and Chaos, hundreds of Greyhound Dalam police today swooped on the Swaraj Maidan fasting venue and broken the Vijayawada Congress Lok Sabha member Lagadapati Rajagopal’s fast-unto-death which entered the sixth day today.

Mr Rajagopal took the fast at Hyderabad initially but the police shifted here the next day and he ‘recommenced’ the fast denouncing the centre’s announcement of initiating process of separate Telangana state.

Development only if Andhra remains united: Chiranjeevi

Tirupati, December 19: Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi on Friday asserted that development is possible only if Andhra Pradesh remained united.

Chiranjeevi, who resigned as an MLA yesterday, visited this temple town, which is also his assembly constituency, to launch his tour of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in support of a unified state.

No idea when Telangana row will be resolved: PC

New Delhi, December 19: Home Minister P. Chidambaram Friday declined to give a time frame for resolving the festering controversy over a separate Telangana state.

“No idea,” he replied when reporters asked him outside parliament when the issue would be resolved given the intense passions for and against creating the new state.

The continuous uproar over the issue in the Lok Sabha had forced Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn the house sine die Friday.

Anantapur, December 19: The movement for unified Andhra Pradesh took a violent turn after police disrupted the indefinite hunger strike camps of various leaders in the city on Friday.

Chir‘U’ on solidarity tour

Hyderabad, December 18: Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi is going to set off today from Tirupati on a solidarity tour of the Rayalaseema and Coastal regions.

Reaching Tirupati in the morning, he is likely to hold a rally in the temple town. Over the next five or six days, Chiranjeevi will visit Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Ananthapur and Rajamundry.

The PRP president stated that he would visit the hunger strike camps of various political party leaders and organisations and express solidarity with them.

Lawyers rough up an united Andhra supporter

Hyderabad, December 18: One person allegedly from Rayalaseema region was roughed up by the lawyers near Ranga Reddy District Court in L B Nagar when he raised slogans in support of united Andhra Pradesh when the lawyers were staging a protest following the death of a fellow lawyer Y Dayakar Reddy on Thursday.

Dayakar Reddy had committed suicide last night in support of separate Telangana.

Police forcibly shift fasting TDP leaders to hospital

Hyderabad, December 18: Amid high drama, police today forcibly shifted TDP legislator P Sunita and her party colleagues, holding a fast-unto-death to protest against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, in Anantapur, to a hospital.

Sunita and five other TDP leaders were on fast for the last five days, Anantapur district Superintendent of Police M K Singh told PTI.

High drama was witnessed as the supporters of Sunita resisted the police attempt to shift the fasting leaders to hospital.

Chiranjeevi, TDP leaders launch separate campaign from Tirupati

Bandh of Govt. offices total in Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Dec 18: The bandh called by the Telugu Desam Party in all offices of State and Central governments, local bodies and commercial banks on Friday was near total.

TDP workers stormed the Collectorate in the morning and ensured that the employees came out. Even the State Bank of India branch functioning in the premises had to be closed down.

Bandh called by JAC in AP district begins

Vijayawada, December 18: The 48-hour bandh in Krishna district, called by Joint Action Committee (JAC), which is spearheading protest against the arrest of fasting Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Mylavaram Legislator Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and party State Secretary Bonda Umamaheswara Rao at Zilla Parishad Guest House here yesterday, began this morning.

The JAC, consisting of different political parties spearheading agitation for unified Andhra Pradesh, has called the bandh from 0600 hrs today to December 20 morning.

AU students agitation enters 7th day

Visakhapatnam, December 18: The United Andhra agitation, spearheaded by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Andhra University students, continued their fast unto death for the seventh day today.

Congress and Telugu Desam party (TDP) Cadres also took part in the relay hunger strike camps in several rural and urban areas in North coastal districts of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam of North Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana costing Rs150 crore a day

Hyderabad, December 18: Whether or not Telangana is formed, the trade and industry in Andhra Pradesh is already feeling the heat.

With law and order slipping out of hands in some places and frequent shutdown calls given by political activists, trade is said to be suffering severe losses all across the state, while the industry is wary of the dent to Brand AP.

According to estimates of various industry bodies, the trade is suffering at least Rs 150 crore of loss every day in various parts of the state, either due to interruption in transporting goods or operating at points of sale.

A group of 10 MLAs from the Andhra-Rayalaseema region met Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee and P. Chidambaram besides Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel in a bid to mount pressure against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

No one can stop formation of separate Telangana: KCR

Hyderabad, December 18: Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS)) President K Chandrasekhara Rao today said no one could stop the formation of separate Telangana as the Union Government had given a clear cut statement on carving out a separate State.

Addressing the media, he said the Union Government would not go back on its decision as there was no precedent in the history of the Centre retracting on its decision.
