Hyderabad, May 10: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Monday ruled out any inquiry into charges of corruption levelled by some senior Congress leaders against a few of his cabinet colleagues.
“There is no need for any such inquiry,” Mr. Rosaiah said in Zaheerabad where he came to attend the Prajapatham (administration at the people’s doorstep) programme.
Hyderabad, May 10: Six tribals were injured on Monday when Maoists fired at their vehicle in a forest area in Visakhapatnam, thinking it was carrying police personnel.
The incident took place in R. V. Puram forest area of G. K. Veedhi mandal on the Andhra-Orissa border when a group of ultras fired at a private vehicle suspecting that it was carrying police personnel, a senior police officer said.
The Maoists soon fled away. The tribals received bullet injuries and have been admitted to a government hospital. They were being shifted to KGM hospital at Visakhapatnam, he said.

Hyderabad, May 09: In the wake of corruption charges levelled by Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, MP and former minister P Goverdhan Reddy against the Cabinet ministers, the Lok Satta party has demanded the state government to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act immediately.
Lok Satta leaders Bheesetti Babji, V Lakshman Balaji and P Bhaskara told reporters that corruption in Andhra Pradesh has become ubiquitous and the guilty are going unscathed as the government is not serious about mitigating if not eliminating corruption altogether.

Hyderabad, May 09: Pilgrimage turned tragic for three families from Mahaboobnagar district when the vehicle in which they were travelling met with a major accident leaving 10 persons dead and one injured late yesterday night.
Three families from Addakula and Pangula mandal of the district set off on a pilgrimage in a vehicle on April 1. They first visited Tirupathi and later visited several other temples.
They reached Mahanandi in Kurnool district yesterday and after having darshan were returning home at around 10.30 p.m from Kurnool.
Hyderabad, May 09: A student from Hyderabad pursuing her MS in electrical engineering at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, died in a road accident in the US yesterday. Five other students from the city escaped with minor injuries in the accident.
Praneetha Devi Kasani (22) was returning from New York to Ohio along with five of her friends when the mishap took place in West Virginia. According to reports reaching the family, the car in which the six were travelling hit a car in front of it and veered off to left and ran into another car onrushing from the opposite direction.

Tirupati, May 09: Twelve persons were killed and two others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a van and a state-run transport corporation bus near here in the wee hours today.
The mishap occurred when the van, carrying 14 persons from Nellore, collided with the bus coming from the opposite direction at Agarala village, 25 kms from here, police said.
The victims, all occupants of van, hailed from Nellore.

Hyderabad, May 09: An engineering student was found dead under suspicious circumstances near the railway tracks at Balanagar on Friday night. The victim, A. Chandrasekhar (22) hailing from Karimnagar district, allegedly consumed liquor along with his friend Naresh at the railway tracks. While Naresh said that Chandrasekhar died after a goods train hit him, police maintained that exact reasons behind the accident were yet to be ascertained only after getting the post-mortem report.

Hyderabad, May 06: Police are scouring their contacts to find out what exactly Mohammed Zia-ul Haq, the alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative who was arrested by the police on Monday, was up to since he crossed over into India in Kashmir way back in 2002.
Police picked up the LeTtrained operative who was allegedly tasked to attack the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu facility in Hyderabad’s software district. The plan was to set a scare in the software sector in the city.
Guntur, May 06: A junior doctor at the Guntur Government General Hospital who allegedly misbehaved with an attendant of a heart patient last night, was handed over to the police.
According to information, house surgeon Ravi Teja allegedly misbehaved with a girl, an attendant of a heart patient.
When she raised an alarm, people nearby caught him and handed him over to the police outpost and later to the Kothapet police station.
However, no case was registered against the junior doctor as the girl did not file any complaint.

Addressing people en route on the first day of the bus yatra today, the PRP president said that the Union Government was delaying according the national project status to Indira Sagar (Polavaram) irrigation project.
The PRP would continue the fight against the government until the project was given the national status, he said.
Vishakapatnam, May 06: Governor ESL Narasimhan has not sent any adverse report to the Centre on the state of things in the state, chief minister K Rosaiah has asserted.
Speaking at a press conference here today at the end of his twoday visit to the district, the chief minister said that the governor had called him up and clarified on media reports. “Rosaiah, I have not sent any special reports or survey reports on the government except my routine messages to the President,’’ the chief minister quoted the governor as having told him.
Hyderabad, May 06: Even as the Central government is drafting new rules for electronic waste (e-waste) management under the e-waste (Management and Handling) Rules 2010, e-waste is fast piling up in the backyard of Hyderabad with the officials turning a blind eye to the threat.
The city has climbed up on the list of top-10 e-waste-producing cities in the country, with a daily generation of about 25 ton. An estimated 10,000 ton of e-waste was produced in the State during the last financial year with a major contribution (about 6,000 ton) from Hyderabad, industry sources said.
Hyderabad, May 06: The alleged high-handedness of Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam (TTD) employees who reportedly pushed a devotee made the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) take cognisance of the incident and order a report on the issue from the Executive Officer of the TTD by June 22.
The petitioners – Mahalakshmi and her husband MVK Murthy – went to Tirumala and purchased Rs 500 ticket for the darshan recently.
When they were in the queue they alleged that the employees of the TTD pushed them down causing injuries to Mahalakshmi.
Hyderabad, May 06: More than a week after additional commissioner of police CV Anand announced the new direct traffic helpline number that he would carry with him always, police claimed that they received over 380 calls on that number from public on various traffic issues.
While urgent issues had been attended to immediately, all the grievances had been brought to the notice of the assistant commissioner or the local inspector concerned for redressal, according to a release.

The man in question, Dr Jagan Mohan, currently serving as Joint Collector of Ranga Reddy district, was found to be in possession of assets worth more than Rs 4.60 crore — obviously disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Hyderabad, May 06: A child born with his heart outside his body in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district died at a hospital here Thursday, less than 24 hours after birth.
The baby boy whose heart was atop his chest died a few hours after he was shifted to Care Hospital here for corrective surgery.
Doctors said the child born with Ectopia Cordis, a condition where the heart develops outside the body. A team of doctors was preparing for the corrective surgery when he succumbed to his rare condition.
